5 out of 5 eggsLike a third hand...

Pros: Great customization. The default settings were completely jacked/backwards for autocad, but after I inverted everything and switched a couple assignments around, it worked perfectly..if there were something more than perfect, I would use that word to describe it. You know when you're drawing something and you have to stop and rotate the camera or zoom out or do this or that? This completely eliminates that, and more than that it makes it a flawlessly natural experience. When i'm drawing using my right hand on mouse/keyboard, I automatically now scroll and dance around the model in and out around, movements that are not normally possible with standard functionality! This item is great! It has completely changed my drafting experience and cut the amount of time it takes to do my homework in half!

Cons: It has some issue where it switches the background to black, I had to go into settings and set all the views to standard white background no matter what. This device was essentially causing autocad to enter a very specific isometric view-mode when certain movements were used. This was...annoying.

Other Thoughts: I love it and wish I could afford the more expensive one. However, this model is ridiculously cheap for what it does and the quality of components and feel. I'm so happy this exists, and it's tiny, and works well. I can take it with me to drafting class now and stomp out ALL my homework in the open lab and not just part of it! Some people said "20% increase" Not if you work quickly and are constantly having to rotate and move around your model! I work with very complex objects where most of the dimensional data is given to me, so the majority of the time spent is input time and adjusting views to complete a plot...this eliminates the adjusting view time. It does not take any time at all, because as you think it, it responds.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Ergonomic

Pros: Great for CAD and 3D applications. Once you use one for CAD you'll never want to use keyboard shortcuts or control the view with a regular mouse again.

Cons: Controller is too small for larger hands. When used several hours a night it starts to cause hand pain.

Other Thoughts: Older "spaceball" from this mfg was much better for large hands and can be used for hours daily without a problem.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works very well with all the parametric CAD systems that I've worked with recently like Solidworks, ProE and Alibre. The Navigator installed easily and didn't create any additional instability that I could notice. Fun to use with Google Earth.

Cons: No real Cons that I can think of. I find that a small circle of that soft non-slip plastic shelf cover material placed under the base greatly reduces the tendency to slip on some surfaces.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Cool

Pros: * Heavy enough to not move when you're using it.
* Comfortable
* Looks cool
* Finds and installs automatically into all your apps which support it

Cons: The drivers that come with this device seem pretty wonky. My LED wasn't working at all until I put it into a different USB port other than the one it was installed into.

Other Thoughts: I've been doing 3D work for a long time in 3ds Max and XSI, and this works great in both those programs, once you get the hang of using it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well for what it is

Pros: Bought this to use with Photoshop CS4. It certainly eliminates the hassle of having to zoom in and out and navigate around using hotkeys or the menu options. Makes using Photoshop much more intuitive and natural. Just the thing for big touch-up jobs if you are pro photographer like me. It do NOT work with Adobe Lightroom though. I wish that it did, this would be just the tool to browse through large libraries.

Works with Adobe PDF Reader Pro, comes in handy when I am reading large PDFs. I'm not sure if it works with the free version of Reader or not.

Learning to navigate takes some practice as it is a multiaxis I sometimes find myself zooming in/out when I am trying to pan across the image.

Cons: Software on CD wasn't up-to-date, better to just download it from the manufacturer's website.

Other Thoughts: It does have a blue accent lighting coming from underneath the joystick. You can turn it on or off in the software.

5 out of 5 eggsWow!

Pros: I make a lot of images in Second Life; the SpaceNavigator has given me the control of the camera that I've always craved but never had until now. It's totally changed my Second Life experience.

Tip to Second Life members: Set one of the buttons on the SpaceNavigator and/or your mouse to <Shift>+<Alt>+F . It allows you to toggle back and forth between using the SpaceNavigator to control your camera and the mouse to control your avatar movements.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I can't praise the SpaceNavigator highly enough!

2 out of 5 eggsgood idea, terribly finnicky.

Pros: very nice idea for a product, made well. works great with inventor, autocad, 3dsmax. love the blue leds.

Cons: the drivers suck, you can not open the driver window without perssing one of the two poorly placed buttons, and in order to turn it back on after unplugging it you need to open the driver window, which as i said only works if its already recognized, and on. it is impossible to work with then it comes to moving it around and unplugging it and such.

Other Thoughts: like it, very useful. drivers are terrible.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: I'm creating a mod in Crysis which requires me to slave away in 3dsmax for hours. This tool has great build quality. It is very, very sensitive. 3dsMax and CS4 are a breeze with this. It's very easy and intuitive. It just looks good.

Cons: Led's can be bright... when your not using it.... seriously what kind of complaint is that though.

Other Thoughts: AWESOME all the way around. I feel like my training wheels just came off in every 3d app I have. 3dconnexion I salute you!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Compact, full 3D control, easy to set up, makes 3D modeling quite easier.

Cons: The base could be heavier, it could have a better grip for your hand, the buttons could be easier to press and they could be in a better position.

Other Thoughts: This type of product is a must for 3D.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazingly simple

Pros: Amazingly solid and simple. Good clean driver with easy options to fallow (I invert nearly everything). Works great with SolidWorks 8, Maya, AutoCAD, etc...

Cons: The buttons are about pointless....

Other Thoughts: Takes a little while to get used to, but once you are it saves a noticeable amout of time and energy, I've only had mine for a week and I already consider it to have paid its self off.
