Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Its small, compact, and quick. It has a fantastic PTZ control gui. High quality video with good options to make it as smooth or choppy as you like. Good Zoom ratio and the night eye visio works pretty well for not having infrared lighting.
Cons: The streaming is proprietary. You cannot hook this up to your network and expect to tap on the stream with quicktime or VLC. You have to dump more money into sony to use this feature more.

Awesome Camera
Reviewed By: Paul on 2/10/2009
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: These cameras are the bees knees! I have the RZ30N, one step below this one. Absolutely beautiful images, customizable in many ways. Ease of control, built in web server that's easy to navigate. I can't say enough good about this camera. As for night mode, we use it to find the foxes/coyotes coming into our pastures at night to get a "free meal" on our livestock. We only have a dusk to dawn light in our front yard. You can recognize facial features at 100 yards with the zoom at nighttime.

Highlights
Dual Codec Image Capture The SONY SNC-RZ50N multi codec PTZ network camera features a high-performance 1/4" Exwave HAD CCD and a stunning 26X optical zoom lens to simultaneously shoot high-quality JPEG images and MPEG4 videos at 30fps with a resolution of 640 x 480.
Image Stabilizer and Day/Night Function The image stabilizer effectively eliminates low-frequency vibrccation for extra stable and sharp images. With the Day/Night function, shoot clear images even in low light conditions.
Great Surveillance Functionality The SONY SNC-RZ50N multi codec PTZ network camera provides 340-degree panning, 90-degree tilting and 26X zooming functions to adjust the monitoring range for a complete surveillance. An intelligent motion detection feature utilizing highly sophisticated calculation logic is incorporated to trigger still image capture and send the image via an e-mail or to an FTP location when suspicious motions occur.
Anti-tampering Function Incorporating a digital signature technology with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), the SONY SNC-RZ50N allows users to verify the origin of captured images, helping prevent tampering for highly credible images.
