Need some studio monitor headphones but you're on a budget? Are you a DJ or do a lot of remix engineering? I think I have just the thing for you, then.
The textbooks say human hearing goes from about 20 Hz to 22,000 Hz; these headphones go from about 5 Hz to 30,000 Hz: if you can hear it, they can reproduce it. A gold-plated connector means that your connection won't oxidize and begin to lose contact. A solid 107 dB output at 1 kHz, with reversible earcups to permit single-ear monitoring, and it folds up to fit inside its own carrying case.
Over the ear cup design helps muffle outside noises so you can concentrate on what you need to hear. So what are you waiting for? Check these out and make up your own mind!
Pros: I bought these after frying many top notch headphones such as ICEM*TS and SE**HEISERS. Crisp clean highs, and deep distortion free lows. Sound execellent unamped, but you get full potential of them with an amp. I am using my Denon 7.1 channel reciever and the headphones take everything I throw at them. People said they hurt your head after long use. Ive been gamming all day with these, and my ears are not pinched or sore in any way! They also cost $120-$150 on other sites! newegg prices rock!
Cons: none! but these are ment for djing, most djs use a mixer to plug their headphones into and most mixers are ampliefied, you need an amp to get the full potential, but I have an amp im using so there are no cons for me!
Other Thoughts: When looking for a good quality headphone that will give you good lows and highs, buy something that uses "drivers" for the speakers and not "diaphragms". Diaphragms come in cheap headphones and distort easy. The two companys I listed above mostly use diaphragms in their headphones so you are not going to get the same bass and treble from them. Did I mention I can hear the bomb being planted at A on dust2 when I am in site B?

poor durability, good for purpose
Reviewed By: SuperFarStucker on 12/3/2005
Tech Level: high - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Sound is clean, but extremely bass heavy, but this is a design choice, not a flaw, they were designed with beat mixing in mind.
Cons: Not very durable at all. The earpieces will harden with use and exposure to the weather. The earcup swivel is the point of mechanical failure with these, and they don't store well, so carrying them around in a bag is a bad idea. Cracks will develop in the earcup swivel joint and eventually the earcup will become detached from the headset, hanging by cables. Due to the design, there really isn't any way to fix these. If you try cyanoacryltate glue it will bind the earcup in a fixed position and eventually seperate again from the torques exerted by the earcup. polyurethane glue may be more effective but would be extremely difficult to use for this sort of application. With heavy ambulatory use, probably won't last more than 6-9 months. If you just use them in your home, they could last a very long time.
Other Thoughts: Underwhelming on portables, takes a lot of juice to make these babies shine.

Pros: Great sound & comfortable, they are everything a good set of headphones should be.
Cons: For the price they better be good. They do have some flaws too.. the hinges can break and after long years of use the leather padding can flake off (although they are still usable after this happens). However these are minor compared to how truly awesome they sound. Don't drop them or let your dog chew on them and they should last a long long time.
Other Thoughts: Some people say they are uncomfortable. I don't really have this problem, or it's not enough to note.. I can wear these pretty much all day without a problem. Keep in mind that wearing any set of headphones will eventually lead to some level of discomfort. Try moving them so they rest on the ear and not over the ear if they become uncomfortable.

A fantastic set of headphones

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Fantastic. Various elements from rock and electronic tracks are crisp and very well defined, and the drivers have a tremendous reserve of bass.
Cons: A crack in one headband hinge mount developed after a year of use, but it has held together solidly this way for over a year since then... that's it...
Other Thoughts: These might be uncomfortable for longer sessions as the cup is deep, but pressure your ears a bit. Long for me is more than 5 hours.
These seem to be chosen as the set to have for audiophiles, and I have come to appreciate them for their quality, both aural and construction-wise.
Props to NewEgg for quick delivery and great prices. Prices have really risen; these were $86 two years ago.

Great Sound Medium Construction
Reviewed By: Dannym on 10/15/2009
Tech Level: average - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Sound quality excellent even under high volumes did not hear any distortion even past the threshold of pain for the ear.
Cons: Construction. Plastic will crack with time no way around that.
Other Thoughts: Sound wise I admit I am not a audio master-er but speaking from a purely durability standpoint these headphones have lasted what I would consider a full life. I had a pair for 3.5 years and inflected all manor of normal to harsh wear and tear on them. The plastic i noticed began to crack toward the middle of their 3rd year but no change in sound or connection despite the failing structure. The weakest section of these headphones is also the most versatile, the hinges around the earpieces will probably be the first to go, but with care and non dropping these headphones will give you more back in audio enjoyment than one paid for them.
