I really wanted these to be good...
- Pros: NICE fit and finish. The orange paint is a nice color, feels solid, like it was made with high quality parts. Great sound at low volumes with no bass enchancement. Like the adjustable and removeable mic. The volume control pod thing is a nice touch as well.
- Cons: Here's where it gets messy. This headset has a KNOWN ISSUE(the manufacturer confirms this) with onboard USB slots on most ASUS boards. The headset mic will not work at all, Tritton has failed to address this issue, simply telling users to buy a USB powered HUB to avoid the problem. I did this and the headset worked fine, but later the mic broke and Tritton has ignored my pleas to send out a replacement. I just bought this in August!
- Other Thoughts: Be weary of this headset. You may think it's fantastic at first but there's too many shortcomings that keep this from being a good buy. There is a lot of feedback at mid-high volumes, not very clear at all. Don't bother contacting Tritton about your issues either, their product support is abysmal.
Not worth it...
- Pros: 5.1 surround sound when watching movies.... that's about it.
- Cons: Oh, where to begin... How about OVERVOLTAGE FAULTS? That's right folks, if you use this headset you will be taking chances with your motherboard. I received 5 overvoltage faults on various USB ports before dumping the headset in the trash.
Loud pops while playing games, a microphone that turns your screaming into a mouse whisper (the mic needs some serious amplification), and a sub-par surround sound experience in games should be enough to make you wish you never heard the name Tritton.
You can hear things very clearly when gaming (when the headset isn't poping or causing faults) but the direction of the sounds is way off. When plaing BF2142 the only way to know where a sound is coming from is to face the object since noises get louder when you face them... and that's it folks.
- Other Thoughts: This was a learning experience for me. If you have a decent sound card already, which most new motherboards with onboard sound will suffice, don't bother with a USB headset that does its own surround sound rendering.
Also, pay particular attention to reviews of headsets that reveal issues with the mic. Nothing like paying a whole lot of money for a headset only to find out that half it's functionality is worthless.

Not bad at all
- Pros: I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews on these great pair of cans. I'm using vista on a laptop and wanted to have a portable 5.1 surround sound. The surround sound works very well. Did the other reviewers bother to check thier settings in windows and using the axpc drivers? If you can't hear 5.1 in game (I'm using these for L4D) then you have not set them up properly.
Real 5.1 surround sound. Can hear directional ques way better than a stereo set. Great looking and comfortable cans. From what I hear, Tritton support works just fine (they speak english! and will RMA if needed and in a timley manner). The mike works great in game and in vent. It was actually too loud in vent and had to adjust my settings. These headphones are loud if you want them to be. Exceeds my expectations at $69 bucks.
- Cons: Can't go back to a standard stereo set.
- Other Thoughts: I've had many pairs of 5.1 headphones (headsets).
These work and feel better than most all of them. The drivers are a bit old but they work and thats all I need. There are a lot of speakers in sets of true 5.1 headphones. Don't toss them around!
A pain to set up
- Pros: Excellent bass and sound with music.
- Cons: Gaming. This is where the headset starts to fail. The directional audio is almost non existent. If an object is behind you, chances are you wont hear it. the mic was a pain to set up and when it decided to work, the quality was horrible. even with mic boost, i was still too quiet.
took forever to set up and when you thought everything was working properly, another issue would pop up, be it Team speak not picking up your voice, or noises in game coming in the wrong ear or not at all.
- Other Thoughts: i did not buy this through new egg (another retailer) but i thought i should write this review as a buyer beware.
I used onboard sound with this, with an ASUS board so maybe thats an issue. It could be that a created X-FI card is needed to get 100% out of if but in my opinion, you are better off getting another headset
Great sound but...
- Pros: Great sound, catches most highs and low, when not crashing the games does great in most fps's
- Cons: DRIVERS....they are still at 1.0 and doesn't sound like they have plans to fix them. There are known issues with several top games including WOW that cause BSOD and game crashes. I have also had the head set replaced twice from the mic dieing. But tech support at tritton was nice and had them replaced both times.
- Other Thoughts: The version with the stereo jacks are great and would recomend them any day but driver support for these is just bad.
