3 out of 5 eggsGood Performance

This review is from: SteelSeries Rival Optical Gaming Mouse

Pros: Size and shape are comfortable for extended periods of use. Tracks movement quickly and accurately with minimal error. It's light enough to be moved rapidly but has still enough weight to it to make it not feel like a cheap toy.

The material used for the buttons and back of the mouse is also comfortable for extended use, doesn't get dirty from normal use as quickly as most mice I've used.

Software is pretty robust, allowing you to choose any DPI you want to use (not limited to presets) for both a main profile and a second profile that can be changed on-the-fly. It also includes the ability to create different control profiles that you can set to automatically switch to when a specified program or game is started. The macros the software allows you to create range from basic to reasonably complex multi-button scripts.

The logo and sides of the mouse wheel light up, you can use a color palette to choose any color you want the light to be (or set it to colorshift and use all the colors) and whether it should stay on, stay off or fade in and out at the rate you specify.

Cons: The only real issue I've had with this mouse is with the material used for the grips on the sides.

If you're using it for gaming and are making rapid movements with it, it doesn't take long for the rubber of the grips where the thumb and ring finger rest to start wearing away. It tends to rub off in little balls like an eraser.

At first it didn't bother me too much but as the months have gone on I've found myself having to clean it for every 10-15 minutes of gaming. If I don't, the feeling is uncomfortable and distracting at best. Since comfort and focus are important for gaming, this actually ends up being a pretty big issue.

Other Thoughts: Honestly I'd give this mouse 5 eggs if they had used a more robust material for the side grips.

2 out of 5 eggsBroke this thing

This review is from: SteelSeries Rival Optical Gaming Mouse

Pros: Good feel, nice material, smooth, cool customization of colors.

Cons: Not very durable. One quick 3-inch high slam on my mouse pad broke the right click and was unfixable. Don't buy if you have mild gamer-rage.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat mouse!!!

This review is from: SteelSeries Rival Optical Gaming Mouse

Pros: *Smooth glide
*Comes with program that precisely tunes your DPI of the mouse
*Has a "sniping" button that instantly changes your mouse sensitivity making sniping on the fly VERY effective.
*You can customize the color and dim speed of the lights on the mouse. There are 2 lights on the mouse one on wheel and the other on back
*Very sturdy, ive dropped it several times and held my breathe like i dropped a baby. fortunately ive never had any problems in spite.

Cons: The little piece on the back that said steel series came out, or i'd rate this a 5. And this happened before i ever started dropping it :]
It was meant to be replaceable according to the box, ALL YOU HAVE TO HAVE IS A 3D PRINTER lol

3 out of 5 eggsgood mouse but...

This review is from: SteelSeries Rival Optical Gaming Mouse

Pros: glides nice - real nice rubber texture on top - mouse clicks are very clean and good for gaming - fits in my adult hands very well

Cons: so why only three stars when there is nothing wrong with the performance....well, because as others have noted the rubber on sides is too soft and wears off very quickly. i have had my mouse for 1 1/2 years and the inside rubber by thumb is half gone on the entire side of mouse. disappointed that I will have to invest in another mouse when my old gaming mouse lasted for 9-10 years. this one feels like real quality and works perfect other than the grip is getter looser by the week as the rubber peels off on the side thumb grip.

Other Thoughts: wish steelseries would offer a replacement rubber inlay so i don't have to buy another mouse.
I bought 5 mice at the same time i got this one and tested them all and this one was the winner - perfect fit for my hands - perfect feel of rubber - perfect clicks -just didn't see the bad coming.

4 out of 5 eggsGood mouse but...

This review is from: SteelSeries Rival Optical Gaming Mouse

Pros: This mouse is very nice for people with larger hands. It is not quite big enough for my hand but it's certainly bigger than most mice I've tried.
The lighting effects and software are pretty nice and easy to use as well.
The scroll wheel has a very nice feel, even without being metal like some other mice on the market.

Cons: The material you see on both sides of the mouse where your thumb would be on the left and your ring and pinky finger would sit on the right, deteriorates. I've owned this mouse for about three to four months now, and I have completely worn through the left with my thumb (large divot where I like to place my thumb) and this now irritates every time I think about it. The right side of the mouse is now showing wear and both have an unpleasant feel to them. I have fairly dry hands so I doubt it's specifically my sweat rubbing this material off, especially when I consider that my Logitech G502 was with me for two years and only showed minimal wear, and I see at least two people in this review section that mentioned the wear.
The mouse coating also isn't the best as any sweat on your fingers make it rather gross, requiring a wipe-down.
The software is also being updated all the time, which is a bit annoying because it breaks the lighting effects every time for me.

Other Thoughts: This mouse is good for large hands (not perfect) but it certainly has plenty of drawbacks. I probably won't buy another steelseries product, and look forward to trying the Asus ROG Spatha because it looks large and relatively high quality.

4 out of 5 eggsRefurbished

This review is from: SteelSeries Rival Optical Gaming Mouse

Pros: Sturdy mouse for large hands, with vibrant colors.

Cons: Mouse buttons can be hard to click compared to my other mouse, but you get used to it fairly quickly.

Other Thoughts: I received a refurbished product from Newegg, even though there were no indications I was going to be receiving a refurbished product. Minor scratches on the feet pads of the mouse and box. The mouse seems to be working to it's full potential as of now.

3 out of 5 eggsScroll wheel issues

This review is from: SteelSeries Rival Optical Gaming Mouse

Pros: Good for big hands. Smooth. Great click thresh hold.

Cons: Scroll wheel has major issues scrolling up. Scrolling up quickly will result in scrolling down. Scrolling up slowly will scroll up. Scrolling down works fine.

Other Thoughts: Not sure if it's just a faulty one, but I've seen refurbished Rivals on newegg before, probably because of this issue.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

This review is from: SteelSeries Rival Optical Gaming Mouse

Pros: Bought for CSGO. Previously owned a DeathAdder that I liked; however, seeing as my razer headset, microphone and mouse all died I decided to move away from Razer. My DeathAdder wire was getting frayed and sometimes it wouldn't click or would randomly double click, also would collect dirt underneath like no other.
Anyways, mouse is good.
Software is good if you want it.
About the same size as DeathAdder (I have large hands and they're both ok size)
Had to get used to holding the mouse a little different (dunno if it's because of how it's positioned or w/e but had to be done)
Quick and accurate response for gaming.
Like the rough patches on the right side of the mouse for my ring finger.
Can change the colors (if you're into that)
Overall: a good buy so far.

Cons: Takes a while to get used to from DeathAdder (for gaming), but the mouse is fine.

Other Thoughts: Mousepad: Razer Destructor 2 (feels fine and glides)

4 out of 5 eggsBest fit so far

This review is from: SteelSeries Rival Optical Gaming Mouse

Pros: Comfortable: bigger than some other mice and fits my hand nicely

Customizable, can set two different dpi settings and have the settings be different on a per app basis, no need to constantly change it yourself. Can also change the color of the led logo on the mouse but cannot change the color of the scroll wheel light.

Cons: It appears that the finish on the left and right mouse button is wearing off where my fingers go. Its either that or just the oil/dirt from my fingers is staying on there, haven't tried to clean it off yet as it doesn't really bother me. But people who care about the appearance might be disappointed to see darker black sports where their fingers normally rest.

Other Thoughts: I took off one egg for the bad finish on mouse buttons. Will update again if the situation gets worse.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SteelSeries Rival Optical Gaming Mouse

Pros: Grip and shape of the mouse is almost perfect for me, and the option to turn off the lights is a plus too.

Cons: Sensitivity(CPI) toggle is limited to 2, and the software doesn't display which setting is currently toggled.

Other Thoughts: Overall same quality as the Razer Deathadder. Also happy with the price and shipping by newegg.
