SteelSeries Wireless Gaming Mouse

Full Sensei Performance

Sensei Wireless uses the latest in wireless technology to deliver exactly the same performance of our wired Sensei tournament-grade mouse. We equipped the mouse with the highest polling rate on the market (1000Hz), delivering a 1ms response time that eliminates wireless lag. The Pixart ADNS 9800 laser sensor allows you to ramp up the CPI to 8200. To top it off, we also added new, highly-responsive SteelSeries switches that have an industry leading lifespan of 30 million clicks.

SteelSeries Wireless Gaming Mouse

Tournament Grade

Wireless Gaming Mouse – The Sensei Wireless is the newest innovation from SteelSeries; for the first time we can deliver tournament-grade performance in a wireless mouse. Sensei Wireless maintains the award-winning ambidextrous design while meeting or exceeding every performance spec of its wired predecessor. Maintain your winning edge by personalizing and fine tuning settings including the lift distance, button functionality, and CPI.

SteelSeries Wireless Gaming Mouse

The Sensei's Dynasty

When we launched the Sensei in 2009, we set out to create the best tournament grade gaming mouse. In our pursuit to continually improve the Sensei, SteelSeries was determined to take this award-winning mouse and make a wireless counterpart without compromising any of our performance features. The technology now exists so our engineers have done exactly that. We are proud to present the Sensei Wireless.

Aesthetics

Winning may be everything, but why not do it in style? Sensei Wireless was refined from the ground up to make it a stunning addition to your gaming setup. Ergonomics, metal and illumination blend together in a mouse that looks as sharp as it performs.

SteelSeries Wireless Gaming Mouse

Sensei Shape

The Sensei's iconic shape has become a favorite among gamers thanks to its superb comfort. It made sense to maintain the status quo when the move to wireless was made so we kept the same ergonomic shape that fits great with either hand.

SteelSeries Wireless Gaming Mouse

Metal

Bead blasted metal accents surround the scroll wheel offering up a striking and sleek difference from the soft-touch black surface. The base station is also metal making it durable with a modern-styled finish.

SteelSeries Wireless Gaming Mouse

16.8 Million Colors

SteelSeries Engine 3 gives you control over the 16.8 million colors of illumination that highlight both the base station and the two independent zones on the mouse. Set any of the three zones to solid or pulsating colors of your choice, or have them track your battery life. The choices are endless – and all yours.

SteelSeries Wireless Gaming Mouse

Battery Life

Out of the box Sensei Wireless features 16 hours of life with its rechargeable battery so you don't run out of juice during those marathon sessions. And if you find yourself running low, just switch to wired mode and play on while the mouse charges.

SteelSeries Wireless Gaming Mouse

Endless Worry-Free Play

Sensei Wireless erases all the preconceived notions that wireless mice have faced over the years. Performance, battery life, charging - solved. We took out the hassle of wireless mice so you can spend more time gaming.

SteelSeries Wireless Gaming Mouse

Battery Save Mode

If 16 hours in balanced mode isn't enough when it comes to battery life we added a battery save mode that can be turned on within SteelSeries Engine 3. This pushes the limits to deliver up to 20 hours of uninterrupted wireless play.

SteelSeries Wireless Gaming Mouse

Illuminated Base

The included base station's illumination keeps you aware of the mouse's charge status. This makes it easy to monitor when the battery gets low and removes the guesswork over just how much battery you have left. You can customize the illumination to give it your own look, move the battery charge status to the mouse if you like.

5 out of 5 eggsBest in Class

Pros: This is the best wireless mouse on the market. The material is made of the finest quality and is %100 ergonomic.

Cons: Back and forward buttons are located a little bit too far back for my liking.

3 out of 5 eggsGood mouse, bad company

Pros: >Laser sensor
>Comfortable to hold
>Really good battery life
>Able to play & charge with the cable
>Pretty sharp looking when charging on the base
>Best software I've ever used for a peripheral (SteelSeries Engine 3, *NOT* 2. 2 is Horrible)

Cons: >The 2.4Ghz signal might be a little over-powered; interferes a little with my wireless headset
>Charging the mouse via the dock interferes with the sleep cycle of Windows 10. It will wake you computer up, and keep it awake (yes, I played with which devices are allowed to wake the computer, even through command prompt. This mouse still wakes a Windows 10 machine when charging).
>Charging cable is proprietary, and they don't sell spares.
>SteelSeries has the WORST costumer support I've ever experienced.

Other Thoughts: Ok, the full story is I originally had a Sensei (just the 'regular' one; the flagship). That one got broken during the update to Windows 10 (don't ask me how, I couldn't figure it out). It took 2 months, and 5 support tickets to complete the RMA. I won't go into details, just that I would be promised a completion to the RMA one week, and the ignored for 2 more - and if I stopped commenting daily on the ticket, they would mark it complete, despite no conclusion to the RMA. SteelSeries completes RMAs with coupons for the current regular price for the product in their store, but they are only good for 30 days. So I finally get my coupon, and the regular Sensei is out and they don't know when it will be back in. So I pay an extra $60, and get this instead. This was not my first bad experience with SteelSeries support, so -1 egg right off the bat.

Now, the hardware and software for this mouse are quite solid. The mouse is a nice weight, and the base doesn't move around. But the signal might be a little over powered. When I connect my G930, I have to leave it by its own receiver for a few minutes until it finishes channel hopping away from the Sensei's channel. And yes, the headset and mouse receivers are kept on opposite ends of the desk. All of this is a minor annoyance.

The software is incredibly powerful, and really flexible. It correctly detects between all my games and CAD programs, and switches to the profile automatically. Occasionally it forgets to switch back to the default profile when I exit the program.

The charging cable... it is a micro USB connection, BUT, they did something stupid and added in these notches to it and the ports on the mouse and base. Meaning, a normal micro USB cable cannot fit in either. To top it off, you cannot buy spare cables from SteelSeries, and I've read on forums that they cannot (will not) RMA just the cable - has to be the entire mouse. So pray that your cable never frays or gets herniated.

I really am conflicted about the final rating. It is a good mouse, and it is a laser sensor (harder and harder to find these days). But at $160 MSRP, I expect flawless perfection. This mouse has flaws. I could overlook them if they were asking $75, or even $100. I can't at $160. So between the cable, no-charging-while-computer-sleeps, and wireless interference, -1 egg.

So, overall, I give it 3/5 eggs. I really wish it could be higher. But until they clean up their customer support, fix some stupid company policies surrounding RMAs, and fix the charging-wakes-computer issue - or they seriously drop the price - I just can't give it a higher rating.

5 out of 5 eggsAn Update After 1 Year of Use and Abuse

Pros: I reviewed this mouse a little over a year ago; if you scroll down a bit you'll find my name "Jerome K." with the review title "I Hate Wireless Mice and Here I am Loving This One" for the pros and cons I originally listed if you're interested.
This will solely by an update to that review and reading the original may help make everything below make a little more sense!
I've followed up with several of my reviews on Newegg months later when I encountered an issue that just wasn't there during the window we're given to review products or in one case upgrading a review score because a firmware update fixed the issues the product was having. As I was gaming last night with this mouse I thought I'd do something different this time and give an update to a product that's still top notch after a year of use and I still absolutely enjoy using every day.

- All the original pros of this mouse hold true a year later. I've found myself getting quite creative with the profiles and macros. The time investment you put into setting them up pays for itself on games or applications you use every day.
- Software updates have been constant. Some companies wait a while and send out big patches/updates; others do smaller ones more frequently to address issues or enhance performance.
Personally I'm a fan on the later and appreciate the constant improvements from SteelSeries.

Cons: - One later with a new phone and that disconnect problem still happens if I place the cell phone within a foot or two of either the mouse or charging station. (Obviously this is not a problem if you use the mouse as wired.)
- After a few months of use the charging became sporadic. As in I would plug it in over night but the mouse wouldn't be charged in the morning. This was due to the contacts on the bottom of the mouse that are used for charging being very small and with even a tiny bit of dirt/gunk build up it will prevent charging. A Q-tip, rubbing alcohol, and about 30 seconds of your time and you're good again for a few months.

Other Thoughts: My original thoughts on this mouse still hold true. If you're a casual gamer or really have no need for the profile and macro capabilites of the Sensei then there really are better choices out there which are by far more budget friendly than this one. However I will still stand by my recommendation if you're on the fence with this one. Absolutely hands down one of the most fun mice I've ever used.

4 out of 5 eggsvery nice, but very expensive

Pros: comfortable, customizable, accurate and frankly, very very cool. the charging dock is a must have for a wireless mouse in my opinion

Cons: very expensive for a mouse...tough to justify. Every once in awhile will cause some odd errors, where screen slows, and i get system beeps when i move the mouse. flipping it off and on seems to get it to work. not a deal diller, but disappointed in this happening in a mouse at this price point

Other Thoughts: great mouse if someone else is buying...

1 out of 5 eggsBeware of big promises

Pros: Easy to set up.
The software works
On board memory if the product description is to be believed.

Cons: So just got my RMA back from SteelSeries after a month and the supposed brand new mouse is still having the tracking problems. I have never had such spotty behavior from a wireless device. It will be working great and then slow down stopping and stuttering. SteelSeries will give nothing but canned responses to support and at this point I have a $150 lemon. I left a similar review on Amazone which is where I purchased this device. The only other thing I can say is don't take the overwhelming positive reviews too seriously. This thing has been trouble from day one.

3 out of 5 eggsUps and downs

Pros: Every pro is advertised.

Cons: Plastic. They should have used metal for a 160 dollar mouse. There are computers (not good ones) cheaper than this.
Charging port could have been designed to hold the mouse a bit better. I have to press on the mouse to make sure it's charging sometimes.
Ambidextrous. at 160 dollars a mouse, they should make one for right hands and a separate mouse for left hands. The fact that they made it ambidextrous makes it much more uncomfortable compared to the mionix naos series which (for palm grippers) seem perfectly molded for my hands.

Other Thoughts: Considering returning this because of how uncomfortable the mouse is. Then again this is the best wireless mouse out there and it's very comfortable to just take this mouse to my bed.

5 out of 5 eggsI Hate Wireless Mice and Here I am Loving This One

Pros: - Configuration/Customization. This alone is what makes the majority of pros I'm about to list possible. You can change the DPI, mouse acceleration and deceleration, illumination, power saving features, program the buttons, change the lift distance, etc. Literally tweak this down to exactly the way you want it to feel in whatever application, game, etc you're using.

- Profiles and Programming. You can setup multiple profiles with settings to suit each type of game you play. Maybe you want higher DPI settings and a low lift height for some FPS games. No problem. There's your "Gaming Profile".
Working in Photoshop and want a slow DPI with high acceleration? Want to program some of the mouse buttons to replace keyboard shortcuts or even go as far as opening a window (providing there's a keyboard shortcut for it!) and typing in text for you? You got it. You can even edit the timing (ms) between keyboard and mouse clicks after recording them (macros) if you require any type of delay between commands.

- Lift Distance. I'm a personal fan of this and I will note it's nothing dramatic, but you can change the distance at which this mouse still detects movement when picked up off your desk/mouse pad and placed back down. This eliminates that tiny bit of unwanted movement you can experience during gaming when you're at the edge of your mouse pad and need to bring the mouse back to center.

- Power Management. I customized one of my profiles for max battery life while still enabling the LED light on the mouse. I got 20+
hours of use out of it. I would imagine disabling the LED light on the mouse might tack on another hour, but my next pro will who why that's not needed.

- Battery Indicator and Charging. I have the charging station set to illuminate battery status. Green=100%->30%, Yellow=30%-10%%, and Red=10% or less. In the event you run it dry and forget to charge the mouse, no problem. Unplug the cable from the station, plug it into the mouse and continue to use it like a wired mouse while the battery charges. I'll also note that the cable is of adequate length to cover just about any desk orientation. My motherboard allows usb charging while the PC is off so if I end a session while it's low on power, I simply drop the mouse on the charging station while my pc is off; it's ready to go a little while later.
You can also customize the mouse LEDs (The logo and mouse wheel can both be done separately) to do the same as the charging station. Mine set to match my keyboard's illumination color (you can literally set the LED's to any color!) and I have to say they look pretty
darn cool next to each other.

- Adustable Polling Rate. By default it's set to 1000 and I can't really think of a reason you'd want to lower it, but it can be adjusted for each profile you create.

- On the fly DPI adjustment. This is great for games where you'd like a slower and faster dpi without having to stop and change the mouse spe

Cons: - Non-adustable weight. For a mouse that's competing in the high end market, being able to adjust the weight would have been a nice addition. Although, if I had to guess, there may be no room given how much tech is packed into it. The weight is nice though. Not too
light; not too heavy. I think the majority of people using it will be more than happy or adjust to the weight within a few days.

- Battery is not replaceable. I e-mailed support to get verification on this. If your battery should die or stop holding a charge you will need to ship it back for service. Though I see this being a huge rarity, it's worth mentioning.

- One night while playing I experienced disconnects literally every 60 seconds; had to turn the mouse off and back on to reconnect.
Couldn't figure out what was going on until I picked up my cell phone which I had put down right next to the charging station that night.
Stopped disconnecting. Put it back and it started disconnecting again. Not really a con, but an annoyance that's worth noting in the event you're experiencing the same thing. Move any devices that may interfere with the signal away from the base if you experience something similar to this.

Other Thoughts: Before I go into my final thoughts let me throw this out there for you. This mouse has built in acceleration. If you're using mouse acceleration, in windows, you have 2 choices, turn it off within windows and let the mouse do the work or vice versa. Leave both on and you're going to have a bad day. (Or an amusing one when you move your mouse an inch over and it blows a hole out the side of your monitor.)

I've used quite a few wired and wireless mice over the years. I've always stood by wired when it comes to gaming and never found a single wireless mouse that felt just right. And by just right I mean has the response and reliability of a wired mouse. I mean "wireless gaming mouse" almost sounds like an oxymoron. If you would have told me a few weeks ago that I'd be shelving my current gaming mouse for a wireless one I would have laughed at you. And two weeks later you'd be reading this review laughing at me. And you know what? I'm OK with that!

I'll end on addressing the 300 pound gorilla or should I say the 300 pound price tag. I know the price is going to be a hot topic and probably one of the largest deciding factors in a number of purchases so hopefully I'll make it easy/easier for a few people.
Is the price tag worth it? Depends. If you're a casual gamer or on a really tight budget there are a number of other really, really good wireless mice to choose from. Not only from SteelSeries but other vendors as well. But you do get what you pay for here. While I won't go as far as saying this is the best wireless mouse out there, it is definitely the best and most fun one I've ever used.

If I could I would give this mouse a 4.5 out of 5 eggs. The non-adjustable weight and battery issue are worth a minor deduction in my book which leaves me on deciding a final score. In past reviews where I feel that .5 is needed I round up or down depending on whether the pros or cons carried the most weight. In this case I'm going up. You get a lot of really cool features with the Sensei and because of that you'll get hours of gaming entertainment. SteelSeries really did a heck of a job here.

If you can live the non-adjustable weight and both you and your wallet agree the premium is worth it, get it; you'll be happy you did.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: - Arrived very quickly from NewEgg. Mouse came well packaged and undamaged.
- The mouse communicates wirelessly with the base. The base is connected to the computer through 2 M long braided detachable cable. The mouse ‘s internal batter charges when it is placed on the base.
- You can disconnect the cable from the base and connect it directly to the mouse. In such case the mouse is being charged while is being used. The mouse has a locking mechanism that needs to be disengaged before the cable can be disconnected from the mouse.
- The mouse feels fairly heavy and yet very comfortable. It has this “great quality but expensive” look.
- The mouse has 8 buttons that can be remapped pretty much any way a user desires. The mouse is ambidextrous (can be programmed for left-hand user).
- Additionally, the mouse’s configuration controls are very granular for common high end mouse setting such as: sensitivity, acceleration, deceleration, polling rate etc. The mouse even has “lift distance” sensor which allows to control the height at which the mouse quits tracking.
- The base can be set up to display battery status by displaying certain colors. The mouse’s logo can be highlighted with custom colors.

Cons: - Battery is non-replaceable.
- The base is large and it needs to be hardwired to the computer. This mouse is probably better suited for desktops.
- The mouse is high quality, but also expensive.
- The side buttons have very little relief. You don’t know these buttons are even there without looking.

Other Thoughts: - The mouse works well right out of the box. No additional set up is needed. However, “SteelSeried Engine 3” software suite that unlocks mouses’ additional capabilities can be downloaded from Sensei’s website.
- When you experiment with mouse software suite, be sure to create fresh profile for your tests. Once you change the default profile there is no way to return the mouse to the default settings.
- Since this is a wireless mouse with non-removable rechargeable battery, you have three options to charge it: (a) place the mouse on the pad and leave the computer running, (b) ensure the USB port that the mouse is attached to is powered while the computer is in sleep mode. You can then place the mouse on the pad and let the computer go to sleep. (c) Bypass the base and plug the mouse directly to the computer. You can use the mouse while it is being charged.
- You need to use the hardware switch on the bottom of the mouse to turn off the mouse temporarily before you switch the cable from the base to the mouse and vice versa. If you don’t, the mouse will not be recognized until you unplug/plug the US cable or reboot your computer.
- Once you make the decision to purchase the mouse and get over the high price, you will not be disappointed. The mouse is of great quality, very customizable and comfortable. It’s great not only for a gamer but also for a casual or business user as well. This mouse will not disappoint.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid performance!

Pros: The base charging unit is solid and appears to be well built. Love the option of being able to connect a cable and use it wired. This would come in very handy for those uber long gaming sessions when you run low on battery power, simply unplug the USB cable from the base unit, and attach to the front of mouse and you are back in the game, while also charging the mouse at the same time. There is a quick disconnect button on the bottom side that you need to press for releasing the cable when it is plugged in to the mouse.

I have not experienced any latency issues, but I do have the base located fairly close to the mouse. The USB cable is long measuring just over 6 feet, so you should have plenty of options for locating the base unit nearby, or more than enough cable if you prefer to use it wired.

Another nice feature is that the SteelSeries Engine 3 interface is independent from the background processes. So when you are done making configuration changes, close the interface window to free up your computer’s operating resources for other games and applications.

Configurations can be set to deploy automatically whenever you use a specific game or application. Add any number of applications to your library and SteelSeries Engine 3 will seamlessly change the configurations of your devices as you switch between them.

Another great feature is Angle Snapping which corrects minor imperfections when you try to move your mouse in straight horizontal or vertical paths. This can increase precision if you are simultaneously turning and shooting in a first person shooter or drawing lines in a graphics editing application.

This mouse also has a sensor built in that will turn off the logo when your hand covers it to save power; this has to be enabled within the software for it to work properly.

Sleep mode can be customized from 1 minute to 20 minutes. To wake up, simply click any button once.

Cons: This mouse may not be very comfortable for people with small hands as it is a bit large.

Other Thoughts: A new version of the SteelSeries engine 3 was released on July 17, 2014, version # 3.2.5 for 32/64 bit windows OS.

Software download also available for MAC users!

4 out of 5 eggsImpressive

Pros: This mouse is impressive. The control console gives you the power to change any setting that the heart desires. There are four buttons, two on each side that's programmable. You can in theory make any button do anything. You can change the color of the logo, or base to be whatever you would like it to be. There are multiple configurations for the sensitivity, battery performance rates, angle snapping, polling rate. Really any setting that you could think of can be changed.

With that out of the way the mouse feels nice in the hand, you can use either the right or left hand. It's light. I really like how it feels in the hand.

The charging base is nice. You just toss it there whenever you walk away from the computer and your battery will never be dead. I have yet to fully drain the battery.

In wired mode you feel the cable but no more than any other wired mouse.

Cons: Biggest con that i can come up with is the cost. It's priced about sixty dollars above what it should be in my opinion.

Only other con is no user replaceable battery. In the G700 you can replace the battery with a standard rechargeable AA battery. Granted the G700 is much bigger.

Other Thoughts: If this product was priced more competitively it would definitely be in the running for something I would consider buying for myself or recommending to a friend or client. On sale for closer to a Benjamin it's a great mouse.
