SteelSeries Siberia v3 Circumaural Headset

Features

SteelSeries Headset

The Siberia Sound Legacy

For the past 10 years the Siberia brand has been synonymous with quality gaming audio. We set the bar for comfort and performance with the original Siberia (v1). The critically acclaimed Siberia v2 went on to become the number one PC gaming headset in the world.

Not ones to rest on past success, we knew the Siberia v3 would have to be an incredible headset. We delivered.

SteelSeries Headset

Upgraded Audio

v3's stunning, high-end audio is a result of its redesigned acoustical chamber and new SteelSeries speaker drivers. Internally we cut down the number of parts, hand-selected the components, and reengineered how it all comes together for a refined acoustic space.

Our next-generation speaker drivers further improve Siberia v3's audio. The sound is natural and rich, while offering powerful impact and crisp detail. Whether it's gaming or media, at home or on-the-go, the Siberia v3 delivers remarkable audio.

SteelSeries Headset

Retractable Microphone

Siberia v3 features our classic retractable microphone which has been engineered to deliver crystal-clear audio. It is unidirectional so it will pick up more of your voice and less background noise.

The microphone also features a new, slimmer design. Pull it out when you need it for gaming, streaming or just talking with friends and family. Hide it when you're on the go

SteelSeries Headset

Tournament-Grade Soundscape

Detailed and accurate sound has always been a hallmark of the Siberia series. Accurate audio reproduction means you hear exactly what the game sound designers want you to.

This newly refined soundscape ensures you hear everything from the smallest details like in-game footsteps to awe-inspiring explosions that will reverberate throughout your Siberia v3.

The more details you hear, the better situational awareness you have, which will help make you a more competitive player.

SteelSeries Headset

Premium Comfort

Whether you game for a half hour here and there, or you play for hours on end, we want you to be comfortable.

The Siberia line's unique and incredibly comfortable design is one of the reasons it has become a go-to choice for pro gamers around the world. The v3 continues the trend of exceptional comfort, with a lighter weight and softer feel than previous models

SteelSeries Headset

Improved Ear Cups

The new ear cups on the Siberia v3 are filled with noise-reducing memory foam. Memory foam conforms to your ears and head for a better fit than typical foam padding. A better fit leads to improved comfort during those long gaming sessions.

Another bonus of the memory foam is that the improved seal around your ears gives you better noise isolation for an overall improved audio experience.

SteelSeries Headset

Classic Suspension System

Siberia v3 offers a relaxed fit thanks to our iconic suspension design from the Siberia line. The headband is self-adjusting so getting just the right fit is effortless.

The critically-acclaimed design is super lightweight making it a perfect match for those long gaming sessions. So much so, that you might even forget you are wearing it.

SteelSeries Headset

Rich Features

Convenience and durability are key components of the Siberia v3. We want the v3 to be convenient to use wherever you need it. In addition, we increased its durability making it an even better asset for a fast-paced, on-the-go gaming lifestyle.

SteelSeries Headset

Multiplatform

Siberia v3 is a multiplatform headset, and it works with virtually everything, making it truly the only headset you need.

It works on the PC, Mac® and mobile devices. An Xbox One® version is coming soon. Simply put, it will work with any device with single or dual 3.5mm audio ports.

SteelSeries Headset

Durability

Siberia v3 was engineered to hold up to the most rigorous of demands. The new reinforced design is both flexible and durable. In fact, we made the cable twice as durable as the cable in our previous models.

SteelSeries Headset

Mute Switch

Instead of fumbling with cords or a keyboard we made an easily accessible mute switch for the microphone. Just reach up to the left earcup and slide the switch on the back to mute all outgoing voice communication.

1 out of 5 eggsComfortable. Bad product support. I will never buy SteelSeries products again.

Pros: Comfortable.
Retractable Mic.
Long cord.

Cons: Sound quality, it took a lot of adjustment to get it to sound "ok".
Head band splits at the seam.
Bad product support. Really bad. Just try to send back a defective product, they "dare you".

Other Thoughts: Bad product support. Very bad. This products head band falls apart at the seam after about 8 months of use. They "fixed" it on the latest model. Replacing the seamed headband with a foam pad.

I spent 2 weeks jumping thru hoops trying to get a RMA from SteelSeries on my 1 year warranty. Then they basically "dared" me to send back the product. Saying I wasn't "approved" but to send it any way, and if I don't follow all the instructions exactly it will be quote "deemed abandoned".

I then gave them an email of some choice words, and 5 days later they accepted my RMA. I had already glued the headband back together. It isn't pretty, but it will hold until I can get a new set from TB or Razer.

Live, learn, inform:
In my experience, they will make every effort to prevent you from returning defective products. SteelSeries is a "take the money and run" company. I'm sure they chalked my RMA up as a "win".

4 out of 5 eggsNice lightweight gaming headset, maybe not best sound for audiophiles though

Pros: Unboxing the headsets was nice. I could tell right away that they were lighter than other "gaming" headsets I've used. Right away I noticed that the cord seemed to be a nice length, and the dual-jack microphone/speaker jack breakout cable adds another few feet of cable. If you're using audio jacks on the front of your computer this might lead to some extra cable you need to tie up, but I though it was nice to not have to worry about cable length.

Another feature I really like is the retractable microphone. It extends and retracts pretty easily, and the flexible design can be positioned anywhere you want and it holds its position pretty well too. During testing, the microphone seemed to clearly pick up both quiet and loud voices quite well without distortion or other problems, and it didn't blow out from my breathing either.

The adjustable headstrap worked fine for me but I can see why people with large or wide heads might have a problem with it. The lightweight design was nice though, and I was able to wear the headset comfortably for an hour without any problem. It cut out external sounds pretty well once the foam had shaped itself to my head.

Cons: I did notice that the earcups don't have quite enough flex in them to give me a perfect seal around the lower back of my ears. As the foam compressed slightly during use the seal improved over time, but the pressure of the seal around the ear wasn't completely consistent. I'm pretty sure that the more I use it though, the better it will fit as the foam adjusts to the shape of my head so this is a minor issue.

The other con is a minor issue with sound quality. The mids and lows with these headsets interfere quite a bit with instrument separation in the high and mid-high ranges. I was able to improve this with some careful equalizer settings, but when switching between these headsets and some small cheapo headphones I have, I could hear much better mids and high instrument clarity with the cheapo ones. For gaming and skype and general use this probably isn't going to be a problem, but an audiophile will likely notice some loss in clarity as the lows kind of muddy up the mids and highs a bit, and shift the whole soundscape down a bit. Again, this improved with some equalizer fiddling but audiophiles will probably need to look elsewhere. This is where this headset lost an egg.

A final con is that the microphone only comes out of the left earcup and can't be configured or swapped to come out from the right. This may or may not be a big deal to you, but it could be a con to people who just prefer the mic on the right side (left handed people who snack or smoke while using these?)

Other Thoughts: My primary concern with this headset is in the "value" category. They're certainly nice and sound pretty good for gaming and skype. They're better than my old skype and gaming headsets so I'll be using them for that, however I'm not sure I'll be able to tweak equalizer settings enough to bring back the musical clarity I want for listening to music. That puts these headsets in kind of a value dead-zone for me personally since I tend to buy either super cheap or ultra-top end gaming gear. They're a bit pricy for value gaming and skype compared to other inexpensive headsets that are probably about as good, but they don't match up to admittedly more expensive headsets aimed at music lovers.

In the end, if you're looking for good quality gaming headset that feels a cut above the cheapo brands and aren't critical about pure musical sound quality, then these may be a good choice. The microphone design and quality is certainly a high point if you're ok with the mic being on the left side, so I can recommend these as a nice quality mid-range gaming headset especially since that's the specific market they're designed to target.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Headsets

Pros: I was very surprised at the quality and comfort of these headsets. Although they are made from plastic, taking them out of the box I could tell the quality construction. I am sure the material used would keep the prices down. They are very light and easily adjusted around your head. The ear pads are soft and comfortable for long sessions of gaming or just listening to music.

The sound is surprisingly good for the cost of these headsets. Although the lack of bass is annoying at times, overall the mids and high frequencies are quite good. The software suite allows several sound adjustments, but I could not compensate for the lack of bass sounds. A little bit, but not nearly what I wanted to hear before the distortion set in. I use these with a Sound Blaster-Z audio card.

The mic is not as good as other headsets I have. For whatever reason I needed to up the gain of the mic.

The headset uses a standard 3.5mm jack so you can use these with any gaming set you have. I even have them working fine with my little Raspberry Pi 2 “computer”.

Cons: Well for the price of these there will be some drawbacks as I’ve mentioned above, however the overall sound is good, so don’t let the lack of bass sway your decision. Like other gaming headsets in this price range there is no bling or LED lights to attract attention. Another cost savings I suppose.

Other Thoughts: These are nice headsets. Sound is good and the price matches what you would expect to receive at this cost.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Lightweight Headset

Pros: Probably the lightest weight and most comfortable full-size headphones I've ever used. Ear pads are plush, and the self-adjusting feature worked well on my medium large head (though apparently not on very large heads). The pullout mic boom is clever. Aesthetics are clean and pleasant. Power cords should be more than long enough for most uses. Performance of both mic and speaker elements are adequate.

Cons: Reading through other reviews, I'm suspecting quality control problems: some people complain of too much bass, some of too little. While it's true that people's preference regarding bass levels varies widely, to my audiophile ears there is way too much bass – I need to use EQ for these to be listenable at all. So either some people are real gluttons for bass, or these headphones are not producing consistent results.

And then several people complain of low mic output – and there's no reason a boom mic, right next your mouth, shouldn't be plenty loud. It probably adds significant costs to test each microphone and speaker element, so I can imagine some manufacturers skipping this step, hoping for the best.

Other Thoughts: The ultralightweight plastic construction does leave concerns about durability. I didn't stress test it, but there is a pivot point on each ear cup that is hopefully not made of plastic. If there is metal in there, the manufacturer should tout the fact, as justification for calling these mostly plastic headsets "Steelseries.”

4 out of 5 eggsExtremely comfortable

Pros: Very, very comfortable, I've worn them for a full day and never experienced anything that made me want to take them off throughout the course of the whole day.

mids/highs are decently well defined

Retractable mic is very good, most of the time, I don't use the mic, so it's handy to not have it in the way during those times

kept my ears warm when running the snow blower. Added bonus

Comes with a long cable that seperates out the mic/audio so it can be used with desktop pc's that don't have a combo port like phones have

Works great with my nexus 6p as both headphones and a headset

Works with the xbox one via the xbox headphones adapter sold by microsoft

Cons: Bass is a bit too much, fine for music, but I found myself wishing for a bass knob the the headset during games

The plastics aren't finished well, some rough edges when really start to look at it, not sure how well it will all hold up long term

Other Thoughts: I'm not an audiophile, but I game on both my xbox one and my pc, as well as listen to music almost constantly when home. Whenever possible for the past ~4 weeks, I've been doing that on these headphones. If they were to break tomorrow, I'd look at buying another pair (possibly the wireless ones) they have changed the way we do audio in my house, and my wife is happy to not have to listen to my music constantly. She especially likes my xbox suddenly becoming 100% silent as I moved it to a monitor that has no speakers, and I'm relying on the headset for game and chat audio. Great product.

2 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: They are really comfortable, and I like the adapter provided to support traditional 3.5mm multi-port setups. The cord length is also nice.

Cons: The output sound quality is horrible for what I'd expect for the price. The drivers (speakers) don't handle bass/low-frequencies too well at all.

Other Thoughts: I have the Panasonic HTF600 headphones, and for a fraction of the price of these headphones (currently 1/3rd the price), they sound significantly better.

I have also tried burning-in these headphones overnight to attempt to improve the sound quality. This didn't help too much at all.

I really like these headphones and would love to use them primarily, but the sound quality just can't be excused unfortunately.

3 out of 5 eggsUltimate comfort, underwhelming sound

Pros: Incredible comfort. By far the most comfortable headphones I've ever used

I appreciate the lengthy cords and splitter

noise blocking ear cups work pretty well if you are looking straight, like during gaming

Cons: I was somewhat underwhelmed by the sound. Maybe I was expecting too much due to the price. It's not that it's bad, but it certainly wasn't the "wow" effect that you would expect when dropping this much on a set of headphones.

I found the ear cushion seal was broken if I turn my head. I believe it is due to the anti-gravity strap pulling them up.

Friends complained that I was difficult to hear compared to my previous mic. After adjusting settings in teamspeak it was serviceable.

Other Thoughts: This is a solid gaming headset. It will serve you well through long gaming sessions. It's certainly better than the bargain basement options. My main gripe is that the entry price is a little too steep compared to the audio quality of the speakers as well as the microphone. Again, its' not bad, but you might get a better sound for your money elsewhere. If you're willing to sacrifice some audio quality to get supreme comfort, then this is a good option.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my previous review

Pros: See original review below.

Cons: Self adjusting headstrap already split open!

Other Thoughts: I now have concerns about durability of this product as the self adjusting headstrap has already split open along one seam. Another egg off.

1 out of 5 eggsNahhh.

Pros: -Hello. I am technically inclined, but I like to take the approach of a person reading reviews that doesn’t understand all the “geek speak” and make it understandable for the person who doesn’t have the time or patience to study up on stuff. If that’s you, then this one is for you.
-They look pretty cool (white).
,
,

Cons: -No LED lights (like other models).
-The “overhead strap” that is the ONLY “adjustment” for your head is attached at the earpieces on each side with 2 per side mini cables. MANY reviews have said these “cables” are elastic. I assure you they are NOT. They are genuine metal cables. However, the problem for me (bigger head – 6’1” 300 pound dude, the earpieces want to pull away from the head at the bottom of the ear piece. And because of this, (this is weird) when I turn my head left or right, the sound is altered almost like the sound was left to my right when I turn my head left, and vise-versa. Weird. I waited for like 2 weeks now to do my review to see if the headset cables would “relax” and not be so strong at pulling up the earcuffs. Well they have relaxed a little bit to where they are comfortable enough. I get a decent “seal” now. I can only imagine they will continually get “more stretched” as time goes on. And at the rate of acclimation that I have had them for, hopefully they don’t just stretch out completely.
-The sound quality is sub-par. The lows are very mild as well as the highs. The mids are nice and rich. On ALL games I have tried them on (comparing to Corsairs HS-40’s [TOO much bass and very tight and uncomfortable from the vinyl ear cushions], and 3 sets of Rosewill brand headsets [ranging from 10-20 bucks), which are VERY comparable in sound quality – and NO disregardd to Rosewill by the way, they make good products for the price).
-ALL games were just missing that “umph” in sound quality. However, FarCry 4 (which to me has too much bass in the audio tracks) sounded perfect and Stranded Deep sounded okay also. These 2 games were the only exceptions compared to: Battlefield 3 and 4, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare and Modern Warfare 3, Warface, Velvet Assassin, Alan Wake series, The Saboteur, Arma 3, Assassins Creed IV liberation and Unity, GRID 2, Juiced 2 Hot Import Nights, Remember Me, Saints Row IV: Gat Out of Hell, The Evil Within, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
,
,

Other Thoughts: -Just because this is a review, please don’t take my words lightly and think I just favor a product because it is sent to me. I have a job to do; and that’s to be fair and honest about the product for future prospective buyers. I am just like you, a Newegg customer. And to me, Newegg reviews are golden. So I am not about to tarnish Newegg reviews OR my good name by telling you something is good when it is not. I hope this review has satisfied your purchasing inquiry needs.

-I would say for a hundred bucks, you should look elsewhere for a “high quality headset” that is in the give-or-take range of a hundred bucks. No offence, but I would offer you 15 bucks for these headphones.
-The mic seems to perform okay over Gmail phone calls and online gaming (Tom Clancy’s Ghosts).
-From what I understand, the older models (Siberia 2’s) were something to brag about. I personally don’t know.
-Thank you for reading. And thank you Newegg for allowing me another great opportunity to review.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Arrived quickly.
- Build quality is actually very good. All parts fit together well. Retractable microphone and headband adjust effortlessly. Cabling feels solid.
- The headphones look good. The white plastic with black accents are very “Apple’sque”
- The cushioning is excellent. The headband and the ear cushions are soft, pleasant to touch and comfortable to wear.
- The headphones do not have active noise cancelling. However, a nicely executed “around ear” design provides lots of passive noise isolation. They work quite well in noisy environment.
- The same applies to making phone calls in noisy environment. I made multiple phone calls with an iPhone with these headphones in various environments with great results. The calls come in clear and the person on the other side could hear me clearly.
- Relative to price, the quality of sound is about adequate for music and voice. The sound is clear. I could not hear any distortion, even at higher volumes while playing music. Reproduction of lows, mids and high tones is adequate. The music sounds natural and pleasant.
- Extension cord is included.
- Xbox One users can use “Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter” to have this headset connected directly to the controller. This will allow controlling the chat/game audio straight from the controller.

Cons: - There is no way around it. The headphones are very bulky.
- Because of the bulk, you can’t use the headphones in bed to listen to the music unless you stare at the ceiling and don’t move your head.
- Noise bleed is very noticeable and not great for private or quiet environments. My wife was watching a “Soap Drama” on TV while sitting about 5 feet from me and she kept saying to lover the volume on my headphones because the music was bothering her.

Other Thoughts: - Overall, I recommend these headphones unless your main goal is to use them in quiet environment where you don’t want other people to hear you, like library. Also, don’t plan to use to listen to the music in your bed.
- These headphones will shine with the task of isolating low ambient noise.
