SteelSeries Siberia v3 Circumaural Headset

Features

SteelSeries Headset

The Siberia Sound Legacy

For the past 10 years the Siberia brand has been synonymous with quality gaming audio. We set the bar for comfort and performance with the original Siberia (v1). The critically acclaimed Siberia v2 went on to become the number one PC gaming headset in the world.

Not ones to rest on past success, we knew the Siberia v3 would have to be an incredible headset. We delivered.

SteelSeries Headset

Upgraded Audio

v3's stunning, high-end audio is a result of its redesigned acoustical chamber and new SteelSeries speaker drivers. Internally we cut down the number of parts, hand-selected the components, and reengineered how it all comes together for a refined acoustic space.

Our next-generation speaker drivers further improve Siberia v3's audio. The sound is natural and rich, while offering powerful impact and crisp detail. Whether it's gaming or media, at home or on-the-go, the Siberia v3 delivers remarkable audio.

SteelSeries Headset

Retractable Microphone

Siberia v3 features our classic retractable microphone which has been engineered to deliver crystal-clear audio. It is unidirectional so it will pick up more of your voice and less background noise.

The microphone also features a new, slimmer design. Pull it out when you need it for gaming, streaming or just talking with friends and family. Hide it when you're on the go

SteelSeries Headset

Tournament-Grade Soundscape

Detailed and accurate sound has always been a hallmark of the Siberia series. Accurate audio reproduction means you hear exactly what the game sound designers want you to.

This newly refined soundscape ensures you hear everything from the smallest details like in-game footsteps to awe-inspiring explosions that will reverberate throughout your Siberia v3.

The more details you hear, the better situational awareness you have, which will help make you a more competitive player.

SteelSeries Headset

Premium Comfort

Whether you game for a half hour here and there, or you play for hours on end, we want you to be comfortable.

The Siberia line's unique and incredibly comfortable design is one of the reasons it has become a go-to choice for pro gamers around the world. The v3 continues the trend of exceptional comfort, with a lighter weight and softer feel than previous models

SteelSeries Headset

Improved Ear Cups

The new ear cups on the Siberia v3 are filled with noise-reducing memory foam. Memory foam conforms to your ears and head for a better fit than typical foam padding. A better fit leads to improved comfort during those long gaming sessions.

Another bonus of the memory foam is that the improved seal around your ears gives you better noise isolation for an overall improved audio experience.

SteelSeries Headset

Classic Suspension System

Siberia v3 offers a relaxed fit thanks to our iconic suspension design from the Siberia line. The headband is self-adjusting so getting just the right fit is effortless.

The critically-acclaimed design is super lightweight making it a perfect match for those long gaming sessions. So much so, that you might even forget you are wearing it.

SteelSeries Headset

Rich Features

Convenience and durability are key components of the Siberia v3. We want the v3 to be convenient to use wherever you need it. In addition, we increased its durability making it an even better asset for a fast-paced, on-the-go gaming lifestyle.

SteelSeries Headset

Multiplatform

Siberia v3 is a multiplatform headset, and it works with virtually everything, making it truly the only headset you need.

It works on the PC, Mac® and mobile devices. An Xbox One® version is coming soon. Simply put, it will work with any device with single or dual 3.5mm audio ports.

SteelSeries Headset

Durability

Siberia v3 was engineered to hold up to the most rigorous of demands. The new reinforced design is both flexible and durable. In fact, we made the cable twice as durable as the cable in our previous models.

SteelSeries Headset

Mute Switch

Instead of fumbling with cords or a keyboard we made an easily accessible mute switch for the microphone. Just reach up to the left earcup and slide the switch on the back to mute all outgoing voice communication.

1 out of 5 eggsSecond Review, not recomended

Pros: Comfortable with good sound while it lasted.
Mute switch on the headset so I don't have to fumble around with the cord to find it.

Cons: At first one of the biggest cons was that there was no volume control on the headset. This made it difficult to set the volume to a comfortable level as it had to be done entirely through software. Then when I unplugged the headset from the PC, it I would have to adjust the master volume again because then it would be too low.

The next problem was that the audio signal would bleed over or echo into the mic channel if the sound was particularly loud. Even if the on-headset mic was muted, the single would still bleed, suggesting that it is an internal problem with the wiring rather than with the mic picking up an echo. To prevent the signal from echoing, I would have to turn off all boosting and set the mic level to 20% or lower. This meant that anyone on TS would have to boost my volume on their end anywhere from 8 to 10db.

However the final problem that is causing me to find a replacement headset has to do with the headband. After about 8 months of use, It is falling apart and the headset no longer sits comfortable on my head. The overall build quality is poor for what I payed for. Give my experience with the Siberia V2 that I owned just before this, I expected a lot better quality out of a StealSeries product.

Other Thoughts: This headset replaces a Siberia V2 that I have been experiencing problems with. However, I have mixed feelings about its overall performance. While I like the overall feel of the headset, the mute button is in an headset is in an awkward position and hard to flip back and forth. There is also no volume control like the V2, meaning that you have to adjust the sound though wither Windows or the game itself. Since I frequently switch back and forth between my main speakers and the headset, I'm constantly having the fiddle with Windows volume control.

Friends that I frequently talk with on TeamSpeak have stated that they can sometime hear themselves echo through my headset, even when my headset is muted at the time. I've largely tracked this down to the connector between the headset line and the extension cable (which isn't optional this time). I would have also preferred a shorter extension cable and a stand alone dual 3.5mm PC adapter.

5 out of 5 eggsSound leak.

Pros: Very, very lightweight
Most comfortable headset I've ever worn
Great bass
Pretty good audio overall, not the best, but it's a budget headset anyway.
Useful mic mute on headset itself.
Very nice black matte finish with cool design.
Came to my front door very well packaged, didn't take long to break in and conform to my head.
The ear cushions are incredibly soft and comfy.

Cons: Some may see the lack of in-line audio control as a con, but I prefer the media controls on my SS Apex keyboard..

The biggest problem this headset has is the sound leak. I could not play any sound through the headphones without people in my chat room hearing everything im doing.. Not through the microphone, but through the interference in the cords.

check other thoughts as to why I still gave this headset 5 stars.

Other Thoughts: Just upgraded from the Siberia v2. Glad I did! Very well-made product.

However. Since this one was broken, Steelseries was nice enough to send me a new pair of headphones in apology: the Steelseries Siberia Elite Prism headset. For Free. I would love to continue buying peripherals from them as their customer service is so stellar. Incredible company. I highly recommend buying their products. I know I will be in the future!

3 out of 5 eggsAll About That Bass; Some Trouble

Pros: - The bass… I have headsets that offer some nice bass, but none that you actually feel anywhere near this hard. The first time I cranked the volume up and that bass hit I literally laughed and said, “wow!” I’m impressed by the fact that the drivers they used could produce that much sound without the headset feeling heavy.
- Extremely light weight and incredibly comfortable resulting in very pleasant extended gaming sessions.
- Closed can design so, unless you have the sound cranked waaay up, only you can hear what you’re listening to and you’re not hearing everything else around you.
- Microphone quality is crystal clear and offers a very innovative design. It can not only be bent in just about any direction but it also retracts into the headset. The mute button for the mic is also on headset.

Cons: There’s two cons and two inconveniences. I’ll lead with the later and then discuss the other two which are the reasoning behind my score:
- Straight out of the box the overall sound is not good. The bass is over powering and everything else is flat. You will need to spend a few minutes adjusting your equalizer settings. In the case that you can’t, you’re probably going to be disappointed.
- The provided cable for the headset is actually two pieces that you connect. One that’s attached to the headset that can be used for just audio and the second that plugs into that cable and has both the audio and mic 3.5mm’s at the end. The cord on the headset is too short to be used for pretty much anything unless you’re maybe connecting it to the phone in your pocket. The other cable is way too long. Neither includes a volume control and there’s none on the headset. No volume control on a gaming headset… Ugh.
Now that that’s out of the way there are two major problems with this headset.
- First, there is some serious sound bleed going on here. What this means is if you are listening to something or playing games and use the mic, people you are talking to are going to hear what you’re listening to. Let me make this clear, the mic is NOT picking up sound from the cans, it is picking it up from the mic line. In all honesty, I have no idea how something like this even made it from QA to market.
- Second, I was testing this on my gaming pc and decided to try out my laptop (Sony Vaio – this is important in a bit) to see how the sound was when I’m not using an expensive sound card. The sound was great, however the mic wasn’t working. I then noticed the card wasn’t detecting it. Grabbed another headset and plugged it and that mic was picked right up.
Thought this was odd and google’d the headset and Sony Vaio to see if anyone else had the issue or if it was a known compatibility problem. While I didn’t see Vaio, I did see posts about the Sony PS4 and the mic not always being detected and steps to fix it. Now this may be coincidental that they’re both Sony products but I thought it was worth a mention for you PS4 owners. Research first before you pull the trigger on this set.

Other Thoughts: I’ve previously owned a SteelSeries headset and keyboard and I’m currently using their 62250 Sensei mouse which is by far one of the coolest mice I’ve ever used before and one of the few products I’ve reviewed that I actually came back a full year later to give an update as to how awesome it still is! All of these were solid 4 and 5 egg products in my eyes which leaves me baffled as to the flaws of this headset.
So what happened here? How does the sound bleed go unnoticed in testing? And look this up for yourself people, it is an issue. Normally I wouldn’t be as hard on a product for this however it is being marketed as a GAMING headset. For gamers that means the mic comes into play quite often.

Despite that the Siberia V3 is still a halfway decent headset if you can live with the sound bleed. There are very few headsets in this price range that can even come close to the amount of bass this thing kicks out and none of them in my opinion are as comfortable to wear. More so on 3+ hour gaming sessions.

Would I recommend SteelSeries products? Absolutely!
Would I recommend this particular product? Hey, look over there! Squirrel! In all seriousness, this is a tough call and it’s hard to say it, but I wouldn’t recommend going with this model if you’re in the market.

4 out of 5 eggsSound? Check! - Comfort? Check! - Style? Check!

Pros: The Siberia V3 is comfortable. I was able to wear it for a couple of hours without any discomfort. The headband is adjustable and cloth.

Sound quality is nice as well. Doesn't sound too sharp or hollow. It's a full sound with the only ding against it possibly being weaker bass.

The microphone is retractable and hides out of site when not in use.

Cons: As mentioned above, bass could be a little stronger. That's the only thing keeping it from fully rounding out the sound it produces.

The microphone is a little quiet compared to the mic. on the Razer Kraken Pro.. I have to talk a little louder for others to hear me. There's also the issue of the mic. picking up whatever I'm listening too.

Often, when I'm playing and Skyping at the same time, the others on Skype can hear what I'm playing which is weird because when I speak into the mic., I have to speak louder so everyone can hear me.

Finally, there is no in-line mute button or volume controls. Little conveniences like these do get noticed when they are missing.

Other Thoughts: It's overall a good headset, but a little pricey for what you get. At its price range, it needs to have built-in, in-line mute button, volume buttons and pass through so that when you mute, you can hear sounds beyond what's coming from the headset (ie. if someone in the real world is talking to you while you're wearing the headset).

They need to work on the mic.'s quality and performance as well.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat sub $100 gaming headset

Pros: Danish company, SteelSeries, has been around forever as a gaming peripheral company. This is the update for their ultra-popular V2 mid-range gaming headset. They build quality stuff.

The main selling point is that it is ultra-light and comfortable for all-day wear. It is quite a bit lighter than the V2 and is just about the lightest quality headset out there. It is so light that it almost feels cheap when you first pick it up - but it is not - the build quality seems first rate and it comes in a fancy presentation box. The defining unique design feature is the floating, self-adjusting headband suspension. The memory-foam over-the-ear cups sealed very well in spite of my wearing glasses with hardly any clamping pressure. Even though they look open, the cups are closed - the rest of the people in the room don’t get to listen in. I wore it for many hours at a time but own an average sized cranium attached to my 5’ 10” body. I suspect the self-adjusting headband may not go to extremes in size.

The microphone on the left retracts fully into the headset. When extended, it reaches almost to the center of my lips and stays put wherever you bend it. It works better off to the left corner of your mouth, however. There is a mic mute switch on the left cup.

Plug is a single universal 3.5 mm jack. There is a provided extension cable that splits into separate audio and mic jacks.

Cons: The sound is tuned for gaming. I would characterize it as good but not great - if you're an audiophile. But, you can buy $1500 audiophile headsets for that. The 50 mm drivers seem differently tuned than the V2. It seems to me that the top and base are a little muted compared to my V2. The stereo separation is quite good. If you want to listen to music you probably could use an equalizer with a V tuning curve. No virtual surround sound. No bundled software for EQ.

The mic seems like it could use a bit of volume and bass boost but my voice was clear and easy to understand.

No volume controls on the cable or headset (the V2 had an inline volume control).

Other Thoughts: This is a no frills quality headset, excellent for comfortable long gameplay. In the crowded $50-$100 pricepoint, I would expect it to be on most people’s top 10 lists. There are better headsets out there if you want to spend more money - including some others from SteelSeries.

If you need EQ capabilities look at the next SteelSeries version up called the Prism V3 which is just a touch more cash.

3 out of 5 eggsGood for gaming, not great for music

Pros: Very comfortable headset. They seal nicely to the ears without squeezing with excessive force--having a large head, I find some headphones simply cannot be adjusted enough to be comfortable for me.

The mic design is quite nice, I think the best of any headset I've seen. It just tucks away into the left earpiece when not in use and has a handy mute switch on the back of that earpiece.

The mic is hot--be prepared to adjust for that. From my experience, you won't have any issue getting the mic loud enough; rather very much the reverse.

The sound quality is good for gaming. These headsets are quite LOUD by default, you should have your hand on the volume control for your system when first trying them.

Cons: Considering that these headsets are quite loud by default, a volume control on the headset would be a really nice feature.

The sound quality is unfortunately not nearly so good for listening to music. Using a frequency test reveals why: you don't start getting audible bass response until about 40 Hz and it is muddy until about 80-100 Hz. Cleanest response is in the midrange, and the high end is anemic, not able to reproduce sound at all about 14,000 Hz.

By comparison on the same test, a different brand of headset with 50mm drivers passes the same test with flying colors, having clear clean bass all the way down to 20 Hz and clean response up to 21,000 Hz. Past about 21,000, my own hearing range ends.

What you get from the Siberia V3 with music is good clean stereo separation but muddy bass that sounds artificially amplified, decent midrange, and anemic treble that is severely weak on the high end.

Other Thoughts: I love the design, I just wish they had cleaner, more accurate audio reproduction.

2 out of 5 eggs3.0??

Pros: light weight. sounds great.

Cons: no volume control on the cord at all. on the fly BOOM too loud volume shut down? nope just take the headset off then look for ur volume controls in windows.

low quality in product assembly. the head band has split open and the plastic piece to keep the bend has fallen out.

Other Thoughts: buy the 2.0

1 out of 5 eggsThe Sound Leak is Real

Pros: Comfortable elastic head support, retractable mic, microphone sound quality

Cons: The sound is pretty flat but more importantly the sound leak on these things is real. When your playing any game with your friends and have the game at a moderate volume your friends will hear everything that is going on in your game. All of my friends tell me to take off these headphones if i'm playing with them. I even turned the recording volume on the microphone to 1% and it still picks up all the in game sound. Horrible.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy these headphones if you are looking for a decent headphone within this same price range then go with the Logitech G430's or G35's. Very comparable product, a little less comfortable, sound quality is a little worse, NO SOUND LEAK.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality Headphones

Pros: Lightweight, ear foam is comfortable and doesn't get sweaty, the suspension allows you to adjust where you want it to sit on your head, cable is very long and has held up well after being run over multiple times with computer chair.

The rubber frame is good for carrying and displaying between sessions.

Getting the microphone out of the way for games without voice chat is really convenient.

Cons: I've used them daily for 7 months, but some small parts of the inner headband have started to separate on the edge.

Other Thoughts: I don't know enough about audio to make a professional opinion, but they sound good to me.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome headset for the money

Pros: Pros:

Lost cost for the sound quality, which is superb
Very comfortable to wear for long periods
Excellent with positional audio...games sound great
Superior highs and mids, bass is good too but see cons
Nice long cable
Durable...this headset feels solid

Cons: Not studio quality, but close
Bass is a bit harsh (could be warmer), which has been pointed out in professional reviews. This can be compensated for in various ways, such as EQ or adjusting the bass directly, but not completely eliminated.

Other Thoughts: I have this headset hooked up to my Sound Blaster Z. When using the stereo direct mode, at 24 bit / 192 KHz, this headset ROCKS. Literally. More than one time the cups where literally thumping the sides of my head.

I listen to Trance almost exclusively, so my music is by default very fast and bass heavy. You might have a different take based on your taste in music.
