3 out of 5 eggsMediocre Performance

This review is from: SteelSeries Siberia 200 Gaming Headset - White

Pros: + Relatively lightweight

+ Concealed microphone which can be extended when needed.

+ Inline volume control with an on/off switch for the microphone.

+ Two metal bands at the top of the headphones for adjusting the overall width & pressure exerted onto one’s head.

+ Soft top support strap which distributes the weight of the headphones evenly.

+ Separate microphone / headphone audio connectors as opposed to USB.

Cons: - Uncomfortable ear cups which don’t allow for prolonged wear

- Shorter cord than some competitors’ headphones

- Mediocre sound, with the need for an equalizer to tweak the sound to one’s liking.

- Overall bulky inline volume control.

- With headphone on ambient noise seems to be more amplified and apparent.

Other Thoughts: The main take away from these headphones seems to be that they are overpriced for the features offered. For prolonged wear while gaming, Steelseries Siberia V3 offers greatly better comfort.

3 out of 5 eggsWould not get again...

This review is from: SteelSeries Siberia 200 Gaming Headset - White

Pros: Self adjusting head band is very soft. Almost wished I was bald.
Speakers are angled toward your ears, instead of just aimed straight at the side of your head.
Mic pushes back into left ear cup when not in use.
Acceptable sound reproduction, good for gaming/not good for FLAC listening.
Cups are removable for cleaning, possibly for replacement.

Cons: Ears get really warm after about 2 hours. Needed to take off between missions.
Volume is very low. Had to turn up PC, head phone amp, and inline audio control to hear anything.
Spring loaded head band could be a little tighter.
Also had to bend the 2 metal frame wires to keep from squeezing my head.

Other Thoughts: I was given this set for review. It doesn't compare to the studio quality head phones I bought almost 15 years ago for the same price as these.
Microphone is untested and cannot attest to sound quality. There is a mic on/off switch in the cord.
Cord length is adequate. I have a 5.1 surround sound controller on my desk with a headphone jack.
There is 2 fabrics covers the speaker opening. One is built into the ear cups, another is built into the headphone assembly.
Head phones pivot up and down on the arm, but do not pivot side to side. I think once the spring(s) in the head band weakens or breaks, these will be tossed.

3 out of 5 eggsBudget headphones

This review is from: SteelSeries Siberia 200 Gaming Headset - White

Pros: Self adjusting headband
Retractable mic
Ear cups angles toward your ears for

Cons: Price
Short cable
Need to use a splitter
Lack of Bass
shallow vocal response from mic
Cannot adjust tightness because it is self adjusting

Other Thoughts: These headphones are great for the low end budget folks, as it is priced its priced amongst the mid level headphones and I personally would prefer to pay more for better headphones. While these sound good for gaming, it does lack when using for anything other than just gaming. I had to tweak the EQ settings in order to get the most out of these, Sound was lackluster due to very poor bass response which I was able to add some back via the EQ. The highs were great as was the mids so I wouldnt try and use these for music if your all about the bass.

The microphone was very muddy and shallow, no amount of tweaking I found fixed this so at this price point I am rather disappointed. I will keep the microphone turned off and just use my external mic which seems to work much better than these.

Overall I have to say I was rather disappointed because while they look good and are comfy, the lack of bass and shallow mic response would turn me away at this price point.

3 out of 5 eggsNothing to write home about

This review is from: SteelSeries Siberia 200 Gaming Headset - White

Pros: This headset is very pretty to look at. It has a look about it that screams techie and gamer while also being allowed to transition into the professional space as a headset for conference calls and listening to music while I crank out some code. The retractable microphone is also a nice feature in that I can retract it without having to worry about it still becoming bent or snapped off while in my bag. The built in volume and microphone control on the cord is also an added bonus so that I don't always have to switch out of full screen applications/games in order to adjust the volume or mute my mic.

Cons: Too light. The unit feels like it is cheaply made and for the price, I would expect a better build quality. The light weight would seem like it would increase your endurance while wearing them, but they are constantly shifting around on my head which is annoying at best. The headband is elastic but not able to be discretely adjusted. If I had a slightly smaller head, these probably would be better suited to me, but since I can't expand or contract the earpieces along the headband, I am unable to find a comfortable position in which to wear them.

Other Thoughts: The sound quality was okay which leaves it out of the pro or con category as to me, it was literally mediocre. I have relatively high standards having some experience with recording music. These just do not live up as far as the sound quality is concerned. Part of the reason is that to save weight, lighter magnets are used which in turn causes the bass response to be underwhelming. The headset is okay for online chat, however.

4 out of 5 eggsGood gaming set

This review is from: SteelSeries Siberia 200 Gaming Headset - White

Pros: The Siberia 200 is the latest gaming headset from Steelseries.
Some highlights include a suspension system, 50mm drivers, 112db sensitivity and 10hz-28hz range.

They are extremely lightweight compared to many sets on the market, this only lends to them feeling on the more fragile side though.
The ear-cups do not swivel side to side so depending on how you wear them they can have a bit of torque on the frame.

They are an open air design so compared to closed they do not get as loud with volume being equal but sound is clear and noise bleeding out is minimal.

Retractable mic is a nice feature if it holds up, it certainly will cut down on breakage when not in use.
It retracts about 6 inches and is pliable to bend into shape to your liking.

Included 3.5mm splitter for sound and mic.

Ear pads are soft pleather, inline volume control is a handy feature along with mic on/off.

Head support is soft velour but is permanent thus is cannot be removed to clean.

Cons: The mic compared to Corsair Vengeance 2100 is not as crisp or clear even though on paper it should be.
Suspension system could be stronger with more tension, I find the ear-cups tend to hang a bit on the low side and there is no way to adjust them due to the system used.

If you previously had the click and stay type headsets it might take awhile to get accustomed to the suspension system.

Cord is 5 ft long which I find is on the shorter side especially considering this replaces the V2 which had a 6.5 ft cord.

An added 2m extension like the V2 [which would add some cost] would have been a nice extra.

Bass is on the weaker side and lacks punch, treble gets distorted at higher volume.

Other Thoughts: Having multiple color choices is a nice change of pace from the usual black.

This model is on the lower spectrum of what Steelseries offers but I can't help but feel for the price and competition they are on the higher side price wise.

They are good but not great and it's too soon to tell how durable they might be in the long run.

It should be noted that sound perception is very subjective and what sounds good or bad to one person might not to somebody else.

I used a Corsair Vengeance 2100 and Audio Technica M40X as baselines for comparison.

Overall for a gaming set they are decent for what they designed for.

If you want to double their usage for music listening you might be disappointed especially with better designs for the same price range.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Gaming Headset from SteelSeries

This review is from: SteelSeries Siberia 200 Gaming Headset - White

Pros: + Lightweight
+ Comfortable
+ Crisp sound quality
+ Hide away low profile mic
+ Inline volume control
+ Comes with dual 3.5mm to 3 ring 3.5mm splitter

Cons: - Mediocre Mic Performance
- Mediocre bass response

Other Thoughts: There are tons of Gaming headphones out there, falling into various price spectrum's from cheap to $400+ beasts. Most of us though are looking for a good performing pair for $50-100. The SteelSeries Siberia 200, with a MSRP of $80 fall right within this price spectrum. So lets take a look. I personally have a set of Kingston HyperX Cloud II's and a set of Plantronic Gamecon 780's which also fall in this price bracket which I can compare them with.

The SteelSeries Siberia 200 design is pretty attractive. They are made with quality plastics and while lightweight, feel fairly substantial. There is little in way of extra's provided, however they do come with a dual 3.5mm to 3 ring 3.5mm splitter which is helpful when using with a tablet or laptop.

I have a medium size head and found the fit comfortable after a couple long gaming sessions. They do not feel cumbersome or bulky, which I like. The cushions are a little thin, but are ample sized and never offered any discomfort. I like the feel of my Cloud II's better, but the Siberia 200's feel great overall. Cord length is sufficient for ease of movement and seems durable.

The mic however does leave something to be desired compared to the Gamecon and HyperX headsets. Sound through them is just not as clear or loud as the other two headsets regardless of mic positioning.

Sound quality on the Siberia 200 is quite good overall. The mid's and high's are especially accurate and details in games and music are well pronounced. I would say the upper end is on par with the HyperX and slightly superior to the Gamecon. The only downside is that the low's are a tad weak and as well as represented as with the HyperX or Gamecon headsets.

Overall I would say that the SteelSeries Siberia 200's are a solid headset. They trade bass for mid/high accuracy which is fine if you mainly play fps games or prefer more nuanced music that is not very bass heavy. The mic works fine, but could be better. At $80 there is some solid competition, but they are a solid choice or gamers. I give them 4/5 eggs.

4 out of 5 eggsSatisfactory

This review is from: SteelSeries Siberia 200 Gaming Headset - White

Pros: Packaging - This headset was packaged in your usual headset box and sat inside a plastic form fitted mold that allowed for easy removal. There was no crazy amount of ties that required a knife to release it from the package. Simple and practical. Very good!

Design - There is a lot of thought that went into the design of this headset. It is lightweight and comfortable to wear. The padded loop that holds it to your head allows for a good snug fit while not making it cumbersome to wear. The ear pads are large enough to fit over the ear for a snug comfortable fit. The retractable mic is a large bonus. So many headsets in the past have broken because the mics cant hold up to daily abuse. Having a retractable mic should help with that.

Color - The white headset is very nice. I was impressed to see how many colors this headset actually came in. You would be hard pressed to not find a color to match your computer or your environment.

Customer Support - I did have to contact customer support and had a very good experience. I contacted them through email and even during a holiday weekend the responses were fast and professional. A+ for support!

Sound - I would say the sounds from this headset are solid. Very good lows and nice quality highs. A comfortable pleasurable experience and others told me the mic quality was very good.

Cons: Quality - I am concerned with the quality of this headset. It is so lightweight I cant help but feel that it may break easy. The wires feel thin and cheap. I imagine they will not hold up to many tugs from swivels in your chair. However, Its unfair to knock any eggs off of concerns, so I wont.

Crackling - I am getting some crackling. Its difficult to point out when its happening and there really is nothing to adjust as there are no drivers that come with this headset. I will knock an egg for this. I'm not sure if I just lucked out on the speaker lottery or if its going to be a trend with this headset, It will be interesting to read other users reviews.

Other Thoughts: Customer support said.. "No drivers are necessary." "Thank you for your question. Since your device is not a USB device, it is an analog product. Analog products do not need dedicated drivers to work in any operating system.

If your product is a headset, it is run off of the soundcard drivers that are already installed. If the product still does not work, please make sure your motherboard audio drivers are updated to the most recent version."

My issue was that I had the wrong playback device enabled on my sound settings. I contacted them assuming I needed a driver that I could not find.

I would think this headset would be priced more in the 50 dollar range. The large variety of colors available makes this headset desirable and if it wasn't for the slight crackling that I would get I would surely consider purchasing again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Sounding Headphones

This review is from: SteelSeries Siberia 200 Gaming Headset - White

Pros: These headphones sound great and are comfortable to wear for extended time without getting to hot. The 50MM drivers deliver an impressive sound. Booming lows and rich highs. The realism in games is excellent. The sound with music is also real good. There are separate 3.5mm plugs for the volume and the mic. Volume and MIC Adjustment is controlled by the cord as there is an on/off switch and volume control which you can manually control. Build quality feels very good like they will last a long while.

Cons: There is a slight his while playing the music loud but that could be my system for all I know.
Not really a con but the cord seems a little short for me about 5'long.
If you have a little larger head these may be too tight for you.

Other Thoughts: I couldn’t find nothing else to pick apart. Nice sounding and good build quality.
