5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Awesome sound. I thought my old headset was good but these take it to another level.

Cons: I think the top cushion could be either a little big fatter or thicker one of the two, only point of discomfort for me but not enough that it causes any sort of problem or to take an egg off.

2 out of 5 eggsMic poor quality, uncomfortable.

Pros: 7.1 Dolby Surround
Build quality is high.
Long Cables.
Mixer is sleek.
Very Easy setup.

Cons: Terrible microphone, everyone mentions this.
Microphone It fades in and out.
Extremely uncomfortable, put a lump on my head.

Other Thoughts: Only purchase if you have tried these on. I've done some research it seems men with smaller heads or women find the padding on the top extremely unbearable. It's a thin strip or extremely cheap padding that supports the entire weight of the headphones. Right from the start I felt a constant pressure on top of my head, I started getting headaches, now there is a lump on my head. I seriously would have overlooked the fact that the microphone is useless but the best part of gaming was not having these on my head. I brought them back, my head still hurts!

2 out of 5 eggsBad quality for price, Worse customer support

Pros: This A40 is a very comfortable headset, you will not get fatigued wearing this during long gaming sessions. The speakers are of acceptable quality, and when using the mixamp, you can easily change game and voice volumes

Cons: Astro's customer service isn't just bad, it's so awful I would compared it to some of the worst companies in America, and unfortunately, you will probably have to deal with them.

The microphone on this headset just as awful as their customer service. Even after replacing the microphone and headset, the sound quality is only acceptable, but will frequently spike volume to ear-splitting levels.

Other Thoughts: I have a hard time deciding what's worse, the customer service or their microphone. When I opened my first A40, everything worked fine except for the microphone, which only picked up sound when you would scream into it (that's not an exaggeration, literally screaming). Even if it picked up any sound, it would be muffled and inaudible on playback.

I contacted their support at the end of December, never received a response. I tried calling the company, but found they have no phone support, only online support, but they were kind enough to open a ticket for me. This was January 3rd.

I worked with Jackie in support, and was given the same, very long, troubleshooting process to perform as listed on their website. They determined that either my microphone cable or microphone were broken, and sent replacement parts.

I received the replacement parts and installed both individually, and went through their troubleshooting process again, to no avail. I contacted Astro support again, I needed to send the headset in to them. By the time all this sending and correspondence was done, it was February 6th.

When Astro received the headset, I was given an email stating they were "testing" the headset, and the process could take up to a week. Thankfully, I received an email 7 minutes later stating testing was complete, and they would ship me my headset back.

I received my headset back at the end of February, and tried it again, and I found the same exact problem. I contacted their support again, frustrated, who stated they shipped it back finding no problem with my headset, and it was likely my computer that was the problem. I then...again, when through their long troubleshooting process, not on one, not two or three, but four other computers (I'm an expert at troubleshooting their devices now). All suffered the same symptoms. By the time I completed all the testing, it was March 1st.

In the end, I had to contact Newegg to get a replacement headset, which took an 8 minute phone conversation to accomplish.

I purchased this headset because I wanted a high quality headset that would not break, and to support Esports. Not having a headset for 3 months ruined the entire reason for buying such an expensive headset. I would not recommend anything this company sells, nor will I ever be purchasing from them again.

1 out of 5 eggsNot What They Seem

Pros: There is only one pro to this piece of equipment. It is very, very comfortable.

Cons: Where to begin...

1. It is very, very cheaply made, will break easily on drop, slide, glance (don't even look at it)

i.e: I had both sides snap at the connection between the overhead band and the tower above both ears.

2. The sound quality is meh.

i.e: More often than not, I had to crank up the volume on the mix amp to hear effectively

3. The mic, is super, super weak and breaks often

i.e: If I had a dollar for everytime one of my friends said they could barely hear me, I'd almost be able to afford another pair, which brings me to my next two points

4. Price. Nuff said

i.e: I have owned several generics, several tritons and my brother has owned turtles, this is the worst pair, I've ever had.

5. Tech Support is the absolute worst

i.e: Both times I requested help with my mic, I was met with argument. The time I asked about getting my towers fixed, "We don't replace hardware damage." Thats right folks, they do not replace anything on the outside of the headset. Also, the man that handled both of my cases was Trent R. Which implies that they have a small customer service workforce, which in turn represents their lack of ability to provide effective customer service.

Other Thoughts: This was not a smart investment. With the combination of the poor product quality, outrageous price and the non-existent manufacturer warranty. You are better off trying some cheaper, better built headphones.

DO NOT BUY INTO THE MLG AURA THAT THESE HAVE. Save yourself the hassle and money and pass.

5 out of 5 eggsComfort and Sound Quality!

Pros: Top Notch sound quality. And top notch comfort.

I have owned many headsets and this one is the best for comfort and sound quality.

Cons: None...maybe the price. But you get what you pay for. By far the best headset I have ever purchased.

Other Thoughts: Love Newegg. Fast and competitive.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Amazing sound and mic!

Sound is great best digital surround sound I've hear. You can definitely tell where everything is.

Mic everyone hears me great I'm not to load but not silent ether. Vary crisp and clear.

Cons: Not very portable if on the move using with a laptop. More for set up and keep it there type of thing, but that's only if your like me and don;t want to carry the amp and all the wires around.

2 out of 5 eggsOnce amazing, not any more

Pros: It has several of the same features as the 2011 model.
-Quick disconnect cable
-Good sound quality
-Surround sound second to none
-The best thing about this is the mixamp(no longer included)

Cons: Read other thoughts for a complete description.
-Poor mic quality
-Nickle and diming customers
-Build quality diminishing.
-Have to buy the mixamp seperate now
-Have to buy the protective case seperate now
-Warranty is reduced significatly

Other Thoughts: Several years ago my wife bought me the first generate a40. I loved that model so much i've had it for about five years now. I told everyone to go and get these a40's because they are awesome. However when I was going to buy a new pair for my wife, I learned that they changed several things up on the new model after being bought out by skullcandy. This lowered the quality significatly to same money. I guess saving money is better than keeping good customers.

They changed the design up so much I can't get a 2011 PC quick disconnect cable any more because mine is a different type. They used to include a hardcase for free because if you are spending 300$ on a headset you should get free stuff. Then they also used to give you a mixamp with the purchase of a headset. Now you have to order that seperate as well.

When Astrogaming was in charge this was the ultimate gaming headset. The MIC was perfect and the headphones completely awesome. Now they suck and I wil no longer recommend their product or use them. Howver since I still have my original a40's I'll use mine but I will not be buying anything new from astros("skullcandy").

Now here is a final note. If you can find a 2011 a40, I promise you it will be the best gamimg headset you could possibly ever buy. These new ones and this new "company" have reduced the quality so muchyou just need to go with something else.

4 out of 5 eggsa40

Pros: Amazing sound quality via optical. Nice mixamp.

Cons: Microphone is horrid. literally worse than an old logitech webcams mic. As a gamer this is kind of discouraging when they cost $250.

Other Thoughts: I didn't think I would like a mixamp, to me it was another hunk of electronics to take space. But I was wrong, its nice having that dial in a strategic location.

4 out of 5 eggsGood but requires knowledge

Pros: Good quality and tech behind this. I love the mix amp because of the MP3 input. It allows me to use my secondary PC to run music/videos sound into these while I play a game on main PC. The virtual surround is good.

Cons: The mic mute switch on the cord is funky (only works half way). The setup for this thing isn't easy and requires specific hardware/tech to work as intended. I highly recommend to use the splitter cable that comes with it and send your mic into a separate mic input. If you don't the mic goes in through the USB and sounds terrible. They supposedly have a firmware update to fix this, but I haven't tested that yet. Astro doesn't have any software for testing these to see if they work as intended. If you aren't willing to spend some time and trial and error in the setup process I don't recommend these. Also finally I had some issue with the optical cord (it broke "physically" at one end from very little pressure), but it was still functional and Astro sent me a new one free of charge. (new one hasn't broke yet).

Other Thoughts: Don't believe what other people say about the mic quality being bad! The mic is very good, it just needs to be split before the mix amp, read 'cons' for more explanation. (PC gamer, not console gamer).

5 out of 5 eggsABSOLUTELY AMAZING

Pros: 7.1 surround. Very comfortable, doesn't require being broken in. No static in game volume. Very sleek yet sturdy construction. Sensitive mic. Beautiful sound separation. 4 presets to amplify which sounds you want to hear. quality wire construction. very easy to use. few wires so no tangles!

Cons: Give me another year with this thing. I don't think there will be even a single problem though!

Other Thoughts: This headset has allowed me to step my game up enough that now I can play Call Of Duty competitively against professional players. I hear everything that can be heard and don't feel like I'm at even the slightest disadvantage in awareness.

There are a few things required to step your game up to professional quality. 1st is a good TV. 2nd is a Good headset. If you have the first already. Save yourself some trouble and just buy this headset. You will never be let down.
