1 out of 5 eggsAwful service/headset

Pros: Would probably be good if it worked.

Cons: Was broken on arrival sound keeps cutting out was replaced by the MA3 usb cable that they sent, still broken tried to replace it through both newegg and astro they made me use my 2 year warranty replacement and it's been broken since day 1, thanks for making me waste $284.99.

Other Thoughts: Was just another hyped up headset i'd be cautious when you are looking to buy one of these.

1 out of 5 eggsMaybe mine is Defective

Pros: The equalizer.

Cons: I didn't buy mine on here, but another site. However, maybe mine is defective. I see many many Youtubers using these, and people say its really good audio quality excluding the mic.
But for me.. Man.. Man, the quality is terrible. Even after I setup an Asus soundcard, it still sounds bad. Everything sounds far away, not a single lick of bass, and the quality is just... Weak. My other headphones (3) sound far better than this sadly. Like I said, mine might have been defective from the get go.

For me, they're not that comfy..
Obviously the mic is bad with how muddy your voice can be and that it blocks most of what you say. So, pretty much, if you're a quiet talker like me. The voice and this mic is a terrible combo.

Other Thoughts: Like I said, for the headphone quality themselves it might be a defective..

4 out of 5 eggsI'm happy with my purchase.

Pros: -Comfort. The ear cups are spacious. The top and bottom tips of my ears touch the inside of the cups, but the outward face of my ears do not. This is a nice detail because it helps to reduce the feeling that the speakers are simply hanging on my head instead of pressed against my ears. Note: I do not wear eye glasses.
-Sound quality. It's my opinion that the clarity of the sound that it offers (without adjustments) is top notch. It has a decent balance of highs/mids/lows. I would say that a user that really insists on a lot of bass might consider a test-drive before a purchase. However, it's also my opinion that heavy bass can be detrimental to overall clarity.
-Cables. They're not overly long leaving me thinking, "I just can't manage all this," but they're long enough so that I can sit in front of my television comfortably. There is a variety of cables to connect to everything in my home. I briefly considered the A50, but ultimately decided I didn't want to deal with batteries and the nature of them being consumable.

Cons: -Leaks. They offer no sound isolation at all. This is a double edged sword. If you're a person that is interested in awareness of your surroundings, then this headset is a contender. If you're using a headset for the sake of others, then this might need more research. Listening at what I consider a normal volume might sound to others that you're about to blast your ears off. It's deceiving for the user, and potentially disturbing to any one else in the room.
-The price. In spite of the universal connectivity, the good features, and sound quality, I still can't believe I spent as much as I did.

Other Thoughts: The surround sound effect isn't as precise as I had hoped/imagined. Surround can be turned off/on with a button on the Mixamp, and it's with out a doubt better than regular stereo sound, but it's not close to being as discreet as a regular home theatre. Maybe my brain needs more training to be able to discern the forward-facing sound stage. Left-to-right positioning is spot on, but it also seems to exist in a certain unquantifiable degree of vertical space. The speakers in the ear cups are angled backward a bit. Perhaps with a steeper angle the sound stage precision would be increased.

In my research before this purchase, I found that many people's opinion is that the surround-sound effect is better on the A40s than any other headset (including those that use multiple speakers). While I have not tried any of those other ones, the large quantity of those people leaves me comfortable that I bought the best set on the market.

The $150 headset-only kit seems to come with the hard-shell case that's sold separately for $20+shipping. (I cannot find the case sold any where else but Astro's website.) I bought their top-of-the-line wired audio system; It would have been nice to have the case included since I use the headset so often (for work and play) in two different locations.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor workmanship, NO customer service

Pros: - Comes in cool 'Coffin' box (better quality than the actual product)
- Comfort of headset

Cons: -CHEAPLY MADE PRODUCT; The following was my experience with Astro Gaming headset A40 (with Mix Amp Pro):
2 months into purchase, Headset broke when simply shifting head size - plastic came away from frame & obviously wiring was effected because that side of headset was no longer functional (no sound).
-NO CUSTOMER SERVICE (falsely advertised on web site):
After sending in for repair/ replacement (cost me $20 from CAN), they notified me it would be returned COD and provided a tracking#
They did not specify if it was being returned after repair or being replaced with a new headset.
Emailed 2 different contacts to address this AND to ask what they marked down as 'Value' (in CAN, you have to pay tax according to value of item).
This would be very different with a new replaced item vs a repaired used item.
STILL no response after e-mailing twice (never even an apology for the inconvenience)

Other Thoughts: After the expense of the item, loss of use, expense of shipping to Astro in order for them to fix their DEFECTIVE product and then enormous expense of their COD 'return' of item to me (not to mention TIME spent AND wasted), I would never buy from them again.
Cheap merchandise in fancy wrapping

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Awesome sound. I thought my old headset was good but these take it to another level.

Cons: I think the top cushion could be either a little big fatter or thicker one of the two, only point of discomfort for me but not enough that it causes any sort of problem or to take an egg off.

2 out of 5 eggsMic poor quality, uncomfortable.

Pros: 7.1 Dolby Surround
Build quality is high.
Long Cables.
Mixer is sleek.
Very Easy setup.

Cons: Terrible microphone, everyone mentions this.
Microphone It fades in and out.
Extremely uncomfortable, put a lump on my head.

Other Thoughts: Only purchase if you have tried these on. I've done some research it seems men with smaller heads or women find the padding on the top extremely unbearable. It's a thin strip or extremely cheap padding that supports the entire weight of the headphones. Right from the start I felt a constant pressure on top of my head, I started getting headaches, now there is a lump on my head. I seriously would have overlooked the fact that the microphone is useless but the best part of gaming was not having these on my head. I brought them back, my head still hurts!

2 out of 5 eggsBad quality for price, Worse customer support

Pros: This A40 is a very comfortable headset, you will not get fatigued wearing this during long gaming sessions. The speakers are of acceptable quality, and when using the mixamp, you can easily change game and voice volumes

Cons: Astro's customer service isn't just bad, it's so awful I would compared it to some of the worst companies in America, and unfortunately, you will probably have to deal with them.

The microphone on this headset just as awful as their customer service. Even after replacing the microphone and headset, the sound quality is only acceptable, but will frequently spike volume to ear-splitting levels.

Other Thoughts: I have a hard time deciding what's worse, the customer service or their microphone. When I opened my first A40, everything worked fine except for the microphone, which only picked up sound when you would scream into it (that's not an exaggeration, literally screaming). Even if it picked up any sound, it would be muffled and inaudible on playback.

I contacted their support at the end of December, never received a response. I tried calling the company, but found they have no phone support, only online support, but they were kind enough to open a ticket for me. This was January 3rd.

I worked with Jackie in support, and was given the same, very long, troubleshooting process to perform as listed on their website. They determined that either my microphone cable or microphone were broken, and sent replacement parts.

I received the replacement parts and installed both individually, and went through their troubleshooting process again, to no avail. I contacted Astro support again, I needed to send the headset in to them. By the time all this sending and correspondence was done, it was February 6th.

When Astro received the headset, I was given an email stating they were "testing" the headset, and the process could take up to a week. Thankfully, I received an email 7 minutes later stating testing was complete, and they would ship me my headset back.

I received my headset back at the end of February, and tried it again, and I found the same exact problem. I contacted their support again, frustrated, who stated they shipped it back finding no problem with my headset, and it was likely my computer that was the problem. I then...again, when through their long troubleshooting process, not on one, not two or three, but four other computers (I'm an expert at troubleshooting their devices now). All suffered the same symptoms. By the time I completed all the testing, it was March 1st.

In the end, I had to contact Newegg to get a replacement headset, which took an 8 minute phone conversation to accomplish.

I purchased this headset because I wanted a high quality headset that would not break, and to support Esports. Not having a headset for 3 months ruined the entire reason for buying such an expensive headset. I would not recommend anything this company sells, nor will I ever be purchasing from them again.

1 out of 5 eggsNot What They Seem

Pros: There is only one pro to this piece of equipment. It is very, very comfortable.

Cons: Where to begin...

1. It is very, very cheaply made, will break easily on drop, slide, glance (don't even look at it)

i.e: I had both sides snap at the connection between the overhead band and the tower above both ears.

2. The sound quality is meh.

i.e: More often than not, I had to crank up the volume on the mix amp to hear effectively

3. The mic, is super, super weak and breaks often

i.e: If I had a dollar for everytime one of my friends said they could barely hear me, I'd almost be able to afford another pair, which brings me to my next two points

4. Price. Nuff said

i.e: I have owned several generics, several tritons and my brother has owned turtles, this is the worst pair, I've ever had.

5. Tech Support is the absolute worst

i.e: Both times I requested help with my mic, I was met with argument. The time I asked about getting my towers fixed, "We don't replace hardware damage." Thats right folks, they do not replace anything on the outside of the headset. Also, the man that handled both of my cases was Trent R. Which implies that they have a small customer service workforce, which in turn represents their lack of ability to provide effective customer service.

Other Thoughts: This was not a smart investment. With the combination of the poor product quality, outrageous price and the non-existent manufacturer warranty. You are better off trying some cheaper, better built headphones.

DO NOT BUY INTO THE MLG AURA THAT THESE HAVE. Save yourself the hassle and money and pass.

5 out of 5 eggsComfort and Sound Quality!

Pros: Top Notch sound quality. And top notch comfort.

I have owned many headsets and this one is the best for comfort and sound quality.

Cons: None...maybe the price. But you get what you pay for. By far the best headset I have ever purchased.

Other Thoughts: Love Newegg. Fast and competitive.
