Mission accomplished. The next generation Kave XTD 5.1 Digital is a legend in the making, with remastered real 5.1 surround sound, enhanced comfort and an upgraded, robust design. What sets the Kave XTD 5.1 Digital miles apart and leaves its rivals in the dust is its feature-packed desktop remote, which works as an audio command center. Containing ROCCAT-pioneered smartphone to headset Bluetooth pairing, a premium-quality, multi-channel integrated sound card, comprehensive audio controls and heaps more, the desktop remote complements the headset perfectly to provide a gaming audio solution of unprecedented quality and innovation – leaving NO SOUND UNHEARD.

Nobody does it like ROCCAT. With two 40mm driver units and one 30mm vibration unit per ear cup, a fully immersive, genuine surround sound experience with pitch-perfect crisp and clear audio is ensured. The Kave XTD 5.1 Digital's three high-end driver units are aligned precisely at a 12° angle, matching the natural form of your ear. This alignment provides a real – not virtual – 5.1 surround environment in which you can pinpoint enemy locations easily, giving you the edge over your opponents.

ROCCAT Headset

With an inbuilt multi-channel sound card, the Kave XTD 5.1 Digital remote gives you total control at your fingertips. It allows you to pair your smartphone to your headset via Bluetooth, so you can call your friends without leaving the action. Whether you're playing a game or watching a flick, the game/movie mode toggle provides enhanced audio. Complete with 5.1 speaker ports, you can switch between speaker and headset outputs seamlessly. Complemented by mute and master volume controls, the LED illumination gives an overview of your sound levels.

You're in-game and your phone starts ringing right at that crucial moment. You can't pause an online game so you either stop playing or ignore the call, right? Wrong! The Kave XTD 5.1 Digital features Smart Link®, a ROCCAT™ innovation that lets you pair your smartphone to the remote so you can make and receive calls through the headset – without leaving the action. The Bluetooth-facilitated technology means you can keep on fragging and let the other person on the other end of the phone line know all about it.

ROCCAT Headset

Complete with a multi-channel sound card built in to the desktop remote, interference and distraction-free surround sound audio is delivered. The benefit of having the multi-channel sound card built in to the remote is that it avoids the problem common to setups with on-board audio, whereby signal noise or interference can be heard through the headset. With its feature-rich driver and premium inbuilt sound card, the Kave XTD 5.1 Digital ensures you hear only what you're supposed to hear – your game sounds – so the pitter patter of footsteps you're listening out for isn't drowned out by untimely noise.

Robust, ultra light, and with comfortable headband and ear cup padding, this is a headset that is built to last and suitable for hardcore gaming sessions. Weighing in at 335g, the Kave XTD 5.1 Digital is extremely low in weight. This, coupled with a soft, ergonomic headband cushion and high-comfort leatherette ear cushions, provides a headset that can be worn for extended periods without causing discomfort. In spite of its low weight, the Kave XTD 5.1 Digital is also remarkably robust and durable, meaning its battle-proof design is ideal for hardcore gamers.

5 out of 5 eggsKave XTD 5.1

Pros: Detachable mic w/mute LED
Brand new design for ear cup and head band padding
Redesigned in-line control unit w/built in 5.1 sound card and movie preset button
Ability to hook up a 5.1 speaker system
Kave XTD Sound Console and all of its amazing features including the equalizer that lets you customize sound profiles for specific games or media such as music and or movies.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This headset may not be for everyone so please make sure to do your homework when looking for the desired headset you want. That being said, I have written a much more in-depth review but this headset is by far the best I have ever used. One of the best features is the equalizer settings in the Kave Sound Control software which comes with 8 presets. Not only can you chose from the 8 presets but you can make your own presets which can be based off of one of the 8 default presets. On top of that you can have up to 5 sound profiles so that with 1 click of a button you can change from a movie sound profile to a gaming sound profile or even a sound profile that does not use the EQ at all.

Have had this headset for 6 months already and I do not plan on changing it anytime soon.

2 out of 5 eggsNot happy

Pros: good sound quality for gaming. Easy setup with a well implemented user interface for those that like to customize their sound profiles. The headband fit around my head nicely and felt comfortable. Headset fit over ears perfectly.

Cons: Headset was tight on the outside of my ears, which felt like it was cutting off circulation. Cable management was to long and tangled very easily. The headset can not be detached from the controller.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I would not recommend this headset to a friend. Rocat, had some great features in the headset, but it lacked practicability. I took a risk going with a new company and should have done better research before buying. Hope this helps!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat headset

Pros: This headset has great mids and highs with decent bass, High-comfort headband and earcup padding is perfect for all day use and for someone with glasses

Cons: cables are not braided, vibration is weak for most audio in you don't swap center and sub sound, but that causes mids to drop over all sound

5 out of 5 eggsNice...VERY NICE INDEED!!!

Pros: Comfortable ear pieces..soft head band that is adjustable even down to little girls heads( my daughters love these things)
You don't need a separated sound card as it's in the control device for the headset.....big plus here as you can control the volume and treble and bass and front and back volume.

Cons: It is blue!!!!! why does everything in computerland have to be either blue or green.....curse you TRON!!!
the cable isn't braided....but its coated in a thick rubber that seems to be cat resistant for now
sometimes if there's to much bass or treble they start to crackle but I just turn those items down a bit and it goes away...

Other Thoughts: Ladies and gentleman...if you want the best then pay for the best. these are not audiophile quality but for gaming and video and anything else just go ahead and get them. spend a little get a little...spend a little more get a little more, Okay? not that hard to understand.

Oh and one more thing they are sorta kid-proof tough. I have two girls that aren't exactly careful with them and they take a beating and keep on going.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic headset after a small amount of tweaking

Pros: "True" surround sound with 3 speakers per ear cup
Has rumblers in the earcups (something I discovered later on)
Great directional audio
Sound quality is great (after some tweaking)
Remote control is very functional and a bit of a trend setter

Cons: Requires a bit of tweaking before the headset is up to par
Not quite as plug-and-play as some might like

Other Thoughts: This headset is phenomenal. I really got what I paid for. One of the first things I want to mention is that if you are unwilling to tinker around with your sound settings, codecs and the EQ software, this is not the headset for you. Now since that is out of the way, I would like to break this out in the common scenarios I've used this headset in and elaborate on each of them.

The sound quality out of the box is nothing short of unexceptional. It sounds tinny and not well rounded. Tinkering around with the EQ and other effects has helped to significantly increase the sound quality of the headset. With the default Windows codecs, it really doesn't allow you to leverage the headset's ability. I ended up utilizing k-lite codecs to essentially disable all default windows codecs and replace them with the k-lite ones.

WOW does that make a world of difference! The codec change alone helped increase the audio quality. I went one step further and enabled the LFE to be properly directed to the rumblers, boy did that ever make the bass come alive. After that bit of tweaking, this has easily become my favorite headset to listen to music on.

I have only watched a few movies with surround sound and I will say that it works as expected. The movie mode on the remote controller didn't seem to make much of a difference, but perhaps I was missing something

Games are kind of a crapshoot. With games that officially support surround sound, I definitely can hear the directional audio and feel the (deep toned) action. The rumblers really give a different feel to the game when your head vibrates from deep tones.

~Voice Communication~
This headset has done a great job with voice communication. I currently use skype and the bluetooth feature and I have not received any complaints from my friends and family when talking to them. The mic is of fairly high quality and does a great job.

~Other Features~
I personally haven't tested the speaker out jacks on the remote control but I'm sure they work perfectly fine and perhaps even better than some on-board audio solutions. Otherwise the bluetooth features are really a blessing for the modern age.

Overall this is a fantastic headset for anyone who wants true 5.1 surround sound for their entertainment experience without needing to have a speaker setup. Although it takes a bit of tweaking to get to the right setup, it is definitely worth it. I am definitely a fan of Roccat after I have experienced the quality of one of their products first hand.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat headset with some tweaking

Pros: Great options.

Cons: requires tweaking, otherwise some of the mid ranges sound off.

Other Thoughts: I read many reviews, and watched many video reviews about this headset. I decided to go with it, as I love having the "real 5.1" from the 6 individual speakers rather than 1 speaker in each side using virtual surround. After installing the software, and setting the equalizer, I wasn't too pleased while listening to music, although I had read that others weren't pleased either. Using the normal codecs shipped with windows 8.1, sound wasn't too great. I used Shark007's 32 bit and 64 bit codec packs(available at a world of difference! Everything changed. These headphones are equal in music and movie sound as any headset I have ever had. (I am not an audiophile, but I like good sounding music).

Gaming - I headed into Battlefield 4 and was blown away. The explosions and gunfire made the headphones vibrate on my head. The range was incredible, and I could hear gun fire direction and footstep location. The sound was incredible.

Movies – As usual I watched a movie with VLC. I had to configure the different settings in VLC as normal, depending on the movie sound. With the updated codec pack, sound was great. Without the codec pack it was just ok. The movie button on the controller doesn't appear to alter anything.

Music – Music was not very good with the standard windows codecs. Once I installed the Shark007 packs, I once again enjoyed my Winamp playlists.

Microphone - I had an hour long phone conversation using the blue tooth. The microphone was great according to the person I was talking to,..apparently I was easier to understand than using the phone microphone itself. The bluetooth works excellent. In Teamspeak, my friends all said the clarity was fine. Recording my voice and playing it back, it sounded fine as well. Many reviews online stated the microphone was not very good quality, but I have no complaints.

These are awesome headphones for someone that has the ability and time to tweak and play around. If you want to plug and play, these headphones will frustrate you. The price tag is the only con I have once I got them configured correctly to my liking. I do not regret this choice of headphones, and may even buy another set in the future to have as a backup. Also, I found them very comfortable.

Pros: Sound is lovely to me, comfortable in long sessions

Cons: I wish it was possible to bypass the sound card on the off chance something goes wrong with it.
