4 out of 5 eggsHappy with the buy

Pros: Sound is good, mic is crisp.

It splits your computer/game sound, mic, and your chat into separate inputs. That provides a bunch of flexibility if you do web streaming, or game recording.

All in 1 sound solution, so skip that add on sound card in your next build

Cons: needed to so a firmware update on it out of the box for full functionality. Had to figure out how to do that on my own. user manual was completely useless for that as a solution. Spent a lot of wasted time with it not working out of the box to come to that solution.

4 out of 5 eggsFix for low tone cut out

Pros: These are my first USB headphones and I'm pretty surprised with the accuracy of the surround sound, especially in Titanfall. The joints feel strong and I've dropped them from head height standing up 3 times with no damage.
The ACU was a pain to setup, but once done it's very useful.

Once this headset is configured properly, it is incredible and worth every $$$!

Cons: I've not used USB headphones before, but these have a slight air sound when your pc is silent.

The biggest problem which you'll read about everywhere is the low tone cut off. Out of the box, sounds at low levels will simply not be played (Watch the movie Gravity, where Bullock is talking to the guy on earth about his dog, most of that dialogue simply isn't played). It makes them useless and since the Turtlebeach forums closed down, a lot of the info re: the Zsevens is lost. There is a 100% fix though, which I've detailed below.

The ACU is a real pain to setup, the included manual does not explain how to change the 7.1 volume levels at all. The ACU requires A LOT of power, so much that if your other USB ports are in use, the ACU may not fully cycle and remain "Loading" until you turn it off & back on.

The headset will not take control of sound output while your pc is playing sound (Win7) So if you're playing a game, you need to quit, turn the head set on, reload the game and hope it's taken control. I usually play a mp3 to check they're working before loading the game back.

Other Thoughts: To fix my issue with power cycling the ACU, I bought a powered USB3 hub. This solved the red spinning light problem about 80% of the time. I haven't tried a Y cable, I'm sure it would work just as well. It still takes roughly 10 full seconds to become active how ever and just now I still had to power cycle 3 times to hear my movie.

To fix the low tone cut off you need to open Advanced Sound Editor and follow these steps.
- Select Advanced
- Select the Master tab
- On the right is a section called Limiter
- Set Attack to 1
- Release to 50
-Threshold to Max

-Then select the Game preset tab you want (1-8, Main, Chat)
- On the left is the Silencer section
- Set Attack to 250
- Set Release to 250
- Set Threshold to -75
Do this for each preset you want to remove the cut off in.
Don't forget to save.

4 out of 5 eggsOUCH!!!

Pros: Excellent sound, good controls. Removable mike (not just retractable).

Cons: WAY TOO TIGHT (and hot)!!! I have a normal size head and ears (7 1/8 hat). The ear cups are barely big enough. Someone with larger ears could simply not wear these. I can play less than an hour before the ears start sweating and the pressure starts burning.
I can't say anything about the mike since I don't use one.

Other Thoughts: My G930 headset had as good or marginally better surround sound and was far more comfy. Unfortunately, wireless built in batteries burn out and the (very thin) faux leather wore out after a couple of years. This set should last longer and has no batteries. I'm hoping it will stretch out soon or else I'll have to go shopping for a replacement. Maybe a different Turtle Beach product... or not.

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZEBALLZ

Pros: absolutely incredible audio

Cons: bass will become crackly just below the comfortable threshold. In other words I could do with the bass being just a fraction louder before it would be uncomfortable before it starts getting crackly

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: When these work, the sound quality is excellent. The base is good and the surround sound is phenomenal for virtual surround.

Cons: They don't work very often. From not being recognized as a compatible audio device, to only being able to use the "Turtle Beach Chat" channel, to bad feedback noises during games, to cutting out subtle noises during movies, to the microphone ceasing to be recognized, to spending more than 3 hours bouncing emails with the TB support team only to have them tell me to "reset to factory settings", to losing everything but one inbound audio channel, this headset was a mess. I've had one of these before and sent it back for nearly the same reasons. I've spent the better part of two weeks trying to get these to work consistently.

Other Thoughts: I really, really wish that the TB support team, software, and site were better. As it is, they offered nearly no good information, the software appears to be written by an eight year old, and the website is both difficult and useless. I will try to avoid purchasing from them in the future. *sigh* I don't even really like Razor...

4 out of 5 eggsExtremely Good Sound

Pros: I have always loved Turtle Beach products, this one is no exception. The sound quality is really good and crystal clear. The bass is sort of lacking but it's a headset I can't expect it to sound like a 15 inch subwoofer.

Cons: This thing is pretty snug on the head, so much that it sort of hurts my head after a prolonged use. The mic, if moved, makes a popping noise (some sort of feedback or bad contact in the jack). This is annoying when moving around and trying to talk because sometimes your movement is just enough to cause it to make the popping noise.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is one of the best headsets.

3 out of 5 eggsTB Z Seven

Pros: -Look Nice
-External amp / controls

Cons: -HORRIBLY uncomfortable
-Tin can sounding audio

Other Thoughts: After trying to get these set up for about an hour I had to take a break from the vice grip of death on my head that is the Z Seven. Wow, is this thing uncomfortable. I read other people stretched them out on books and whatever but you shouldn't have to do that with a headset. After a break I tried these in Battlefield 4 for about an hour and the sound quality is absolute garbage in my opinion. Very tin can sounding and the directional audio was not that noticeable and I couldn't tell where anyone was better than any other headsets. No matter which sound preset I used, there would be something I disliked about it. Overall the sound was very "Tin can" sounding. Cheap almost. Which is funny since it costs so much.

I've used other headsets that sound much better.

2 out of 5 eggsSpoke too soon

Pros: They worked for a while

Cons: Problematic. Since posting my last review, I've had to re-install the drivers twice to correct random problems, and now the control unit has fried after just over a month of ownership.

Other Thoughts: Wrote a review earlier, and totally spoke too soon. If I could do it again I'd go for something less costly and much simpler.

Their forums require all threads to be approved, which is apparently a 20 day process according to some posts.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's alright

Pros: Nice sounds. Does what it says.

Cons: Had to stretch the headband so that it didn't hurt my ears. Audio output with every setting possible turned to max is not very loud. If you have lots of background noises, might not be amazing (used on PC). My 5.1 headset plugged into a soundcard would destroy me if I turned it to max.

Other Thoughts: The last USB headset I buy. They aren't bad, I just don't think this works on my PC as well as it might work on a new console. I never use the many random functions that it has...

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works as advertised and does a pretty good job. The ear-cups are comfortable and the cushions appear to be made of leather which feels nice.

Cons: After switching from my old Turtle Beach headset to these friends in ventrilo have complained that my mic quality has decreased and sounds like my outbound is being compressed. It's not bad, just not as good as it once was. The old headset was analog surround sound, which could be why the mic sounded better. (USB mic isn't as good maybe?) Again, mic quality isn't bad, but it was compared to me using one of the better quality speex codecs.

Other Thoughts: Headset is a bit tight but I'm sure it'll loosen up over time.

Setting up the control unit can be a bit complicated (make sure not to use the cellphone cable when connecting the headset to the control unit, or it'll default to the in-line microphone which broadcasts everything that rubs on the cord)

Over all it's a pretty decent headset, I'm just being picky.
