Jabra BT500 Bluetooth Headset

  • Talk Time Up to 8 hours
  • Standby Time Up to 240 hours
  • Bluetooth version 1.2 specifications
ICON Loading...

Remember that aluminum salt-shaker Lt. Uhura used to wear in her ear? Well, she's Commander Uhura now, and I'll bet she's moved up to a Bluetooth headset. Wouldn't you?

Small, lightweight, with up to 8 hours of talk-time (and nearly 240 hours of stand-by time!), you can wander up to 10 meters (33 feet) away from your phone and still maintain contact. That's clear across the bridge! And a multi-color LED gives you a status report on your Bluetooth connection, battery levels, and charging status.

Many states have enacted laws requiring hands-free devices for cell-phones while driving, and even if your state isn't one of them, isn't it nice not to have to grope around for the phone, then hold it up to your ear? Safer, too. Don't wait another two hundred years; be cool and safe now!

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks nice? Feels good on the ear.

Cons: Product was dead out of the box. Wouldn't charge, wouldn't turn on, literally was a paperweight.
Very poor product

Other Thoughts: newegg was quick with the RMA process. I got the UPS tag to RMA it the same day that it was delivered to my house. Newegg support was great, Jabra products, not so much.

5 out of 5 eggsdesigned like an old hearing aid but works well

Pros: Works well and fits well. The buttins are well placed and work well. The fit and clarity are also good. It doesn't hang off the front of your ear and so fits securely. (less likely to make the user look like Alfred P. Newman of MAD fame too.

Cons: Some people that I speak with on the bluetooth complain of slight choppiness to conversation but not all. The ear buds although customizable for fit can fall off easily. The unit is a bit bulky too. The charger will fit in the keyed slot upside down too easily.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat ,but watch out!

Pros: Great sound, comfortable, easy to pair (once you really know how)

Cons: 2, see below....

Other Thoughts: Instructions not complete on pairing, you have to press and hold the VOLUME UP & the power button to get a proper pairing.

Watch out for a/c adapter, it plugs into your headset no matter which way you try, if you plug it in upside down, it will short out the battery, making you think it's DOA, when in fact a manufacturing oversight allows you to kill it right out of the box. This is why Jabra discontinued the product so fast.
If you are careful and plug it in correctly, it will last as long as any product on the market and you will love it!

3 out of 5 eggsI didn't like it!

Pros: Great Battery Life. The extra usb dongle for charging was nice. Really got into the ear for ease of hearing, never had a problem hearing any one, in fact; it was sometimes too loud.

Cons: Many callers complained of static, my voice dropping out. I heard alot of static. The bluetooth range was really poor, like no more than 2.5 feet for great comms. Over that to about 20 feet it was very poor. After 20 it would drop out. (i know bluetooth has a range of 30 feet, but i should have great comms atleast up to 5-7 feet, atleast i did with other devices) overall just poor sound quality.

Other Thoughts: NEW EGG ROCKS! They have taken care of me yet again! Not only do they have some of the most competitive prices they have the BEST customer service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 out of 5 eggsOld model - May Not Work

Pros: Gets great reviews.

Cons: I bought 2 of these - both were DOA. I called Jabra and the tech said the may have sat on the shelf too long. They are an older model, they do not make it any more.

Other Thoughts: I hear these work nice. But I have order 4 now and only 1 of the 4 worked. I have received 3 dead headsets. I would look for a newer model to consider. This one is a gamble because of its age.

5 out of 5 eggsUsed as a computer headset

Pros: Excellent for computer headset work. This my first Jabra and people can't believe how well it sounds. I use a generic Bluetooth fob on a USB extension for central location. It even works upstairs! Easy to put on if you "screw" it on your ear.

Cons: Only 1: The charging plug is a stupid design. It would be VERY easy to plug it in backwards and fry the unit. Jabra should have used a USB mini connector. Never plug this in, in the dark!

Other Thoughts: Unit has plenty of volume and even though I don't use it for a phone, I can see it would be excellent for that as well.

Be careful where you point the mike. If filling glasses with ice and you look at the glass. Your caller will feel it down to their toes! LOL

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't live long

Pros: When it works has a decent sound, not too much echo. Not too uncomfortable.

Cons: It started acting after 2 months. Now it turns On and Off randomly, making calls by itself, not turning on after recharge, etc.

Other Thoughts: It's relatively cheap but what is the point if it dies soon after?. My wife is using a 250 (cheaper) and it is still working.

3 out of 5 eggsNot the greatest headset for the Money

Pros: Ease of installation onto your device.

Cons: Hard to get on your ear. Sound quality with a Verizon Razr is less than acceptable - this may be due to the reduced Bluetooth signal strength imposed on the Verizon Wireless Bluetooth enabled products.

Other Thoughts: For 33.00 you can do a lot better for sound quality and ease of use and comfort.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA - Jabra worthless

Pros: NONE

Cons: DOA. Called Jabra directly for replacement. They said they don't replace the items, they are "just" the manufacturer.

Other Thoughts: Worthless product and absolutely worthless company.

4 out of 5 eggsHold the buttons down

Pros: Good. I only had one person complain about quality and it was because I was in the room with other people who were talking. It's not the best quality, but given the price I'd say this is probably the better mid-range bang for your buck. If your price limit is near this in price, you're going to be happy with it.

Cons: There were many times when I would charge this and I thought it was broken because I couldn't get it to flash again. (See below)

Other Thoughts: the trick is to hold down the button on the mouthpiece for at least 3 seconds after charging and it should "come back" from sleep after a charge. Then you hold the connection button or make sure it flashes when you try to synch to your computer or phone.
