5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Claw-Grip Mouse

Pros: I got this around Christmas 2013 to replace an aging Logitech wireless mouse. It's my first Cooler Master product, and it certainly won't be my last.

I personally use a claw grip, and this mouse is so comfortable I was completely used to it after five minutes. There's a little overhang on the right side which looks really, really weird, but I assure you it's not there for looks. It is the PERFECT, and I mean PERFECT rest for my ring finger. Before, using a rather slim mouse, I had to exert force with my ring finger and it was mildly uncomfortable. Now, though, my finger can be lazy! The rest of the mouse feels like it's molded to fit my hand, too. As a result, I'm only vaguely aware it's there.

Changing the DPI is also a big perk. For some games like Minecraft or Team Fortress 2 a high DPI works for me, but for others like SimCity I prefer a low DPI. Having those buttons on the mouse really saves me from having to open Windows settings and manually tweaking mouse sensitivity.

The extra switches are also very optimally placed. I'm referring to the two buttons on the left side. Your thumb naturally rests just beneath them, ready to flick upwards and hit either of them. They aren't in the way and they aren't out of the way - they ARE the way.

The onboard flash memory is also pretty handy. I don't need to worry about transferring the mouse from my laptop to a school computer with a broken PS/2 slot, it'll still remember exactly how I like it.

Cons: The DPI switches are sensitive to the touch. Beware of accidentally changing your DPI mid-game. However once you get used to the mouse's layout this almost never happens.

If you are a "palm-grip" gamer, this mouse probably isn't for you, either. It's probably too wide to control with the palm.

It's probably very easy to dislike the aesthetics of the mouse. I sort of did at first, but it grew on me, so I'm okay with the looks now.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend to Cooler Master to have an additional button which is a "DPI-lock". You have to be holding down that button in order to switch your DPI. I can't say where to put it, but I'm sure given the mouse's excellent design I'm sure CM can think of something.

In case you haven't read this in the pros or cons: this mouse will be love/hate for you depending on one thing, which is the method in which you hold the mouse. If you are a claw gripper, I would definitely recommend this mouse to you, because this mouse was born and bred to be claw gripped. That's the number one feature of this mouse, its ergonomic design for claw grips. On the other hand, if you're a palm gripper, I would discourage you to go for this mouse. The width might make it harder for you to grip the mouse.

All in all, I love my CM Spawn. It's comfortable, it's rugged, and it's functional. The cons I listed are just minor things which may or may not come up; they did not bother me a single bit.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Mouse, poor button placement

Pros: Comfortable grip: The mouse has a very comfortable grip, but one should know that it doesn't have a 'palm rest' if you have larger hands. The mouse seems to have been designed to be moved by just fingertips, which is great for high accuracy things anyway. The grips are very soft and keep hands from sweating very well.

Accurate sensor: Though it isn't a laser sensor, it still tracks very well on man different surfaces.

Soft Cord: The cord is soft enough that it can be bent and not affect the ability to move the mouse. A small pro, but something that other mice have fallen short with.

Cons: Poor button placement: The dpi setting button is directly behind the scroll wheel. When scrolling down quickly sometimes I change the dpi to some setting I'm not used to and I have to change it back, which ruins the flow of my work or potentially my game.

Other Thoughts: It's a good mouse. If it had either a different location for the dpi button or ability to force you to hold the dpi button to change the setting, it would be fine. As it is, I'm probably not going to stick with the mouse very long as I often scroll through longer documents.

1 out of 5 eggsFirmware bricked the mouse...

Pros: Nice looking Mouse

Cons: Mouse no longer works after firmware update.

Other Thoughts: For the 5 days I used the mouse, it worked great. The firmware update bricked the mouse - only the scroll wheel functions. Tried on several different PCs - same result :( Maybe it was a coincidence it stopped working after the firmware update...didn't realize you could "brick" a mouse. Sent a trouble ticket to Cooler Master - maybe there is a fix...

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Chris H,

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a mouse

Pros: this mouse is absolutely amazing. despite its small size it can really pack a claw grip punch. Yes I said CLAW grip but for people with smaller hands it's easy to palm it. The DPI switcher is nice and tactile as with the other buttons. The surface is a ridiculously comfortable soft touch rubber that just powers through sweat when on the heat of battle.

Cons: It doesn't come with software, it's just plug in and play.

4 out of 5 eggsgood for 2 year only

Pros: I got it for $39.99 2 years ago. At the time, I found out there was a problem about its driver. It's ok.

Cons: It is a little width for me. After 2 years of using, the main problem I has right now is the wheel jumps backward.
When I scroll the website down, the website jumps backward. It seems malfunction.

2 out of 5 eggsThe mail in rebate is a scam!

Pros: works good. Nice touch gaming mouse

Cons: The mail in rebate is a scam!
I mailed in the UPC code and the kept a photo record, but I wait for 5 months there was no any feedback. I finally called the rebate center, and the lady answering the phone had very bad attitude. It turns out the rebate center lost both my UPC code and the response mail to me. This is totally their fault but they said nothing they could do about it! In the end, the lady from the rebate center just cut my call in a very rude way!

Later I searched online and found many similar complains. Many, many buyers lost their money in this way: mailed everything in, wait for quite a while, and then be told it was too late and nothing could be corrected.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Chao,

First off, my apologies that you have received this rude and terrible experience with our rebate and the rebate house. If you still have all of the information concerning your rebate and copies, please contact us and we can help to follow up with the rebate house to help see what the issue is and what we can do to help rectify this scenario. You can contact us by phone, livechat or ticket.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks when it's not broke

Pros: It works as a mouse and has side buttons.

Cons: It's really tiny. The speed adjust needs software assist to not be so crazy wide in the range of settings. The quality of this mouse is AWFUL. I had to replace my first one within a month because the scroll wheel gave out, now the mouse randomly kicks on and off.

Other Thoughts: The warranty for this thing should be a year not a month because it breaks every few months.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Nick,

Actually, the warranty for the Spawn is two years with a manufacturer's warranty. You can contact us at anytime within this period and keep a record of your receipt as we will replace this for you under this warranty period. You can, also, download the software from the Spawn product page (Product link below) to help fine tune the spefication and profiles to your needs. There are quite a few different guides online which can hep to fine tune the experience to your liking. If you are still having trouble or have more questions, you can contact us by telephone (888-624-5099) or by Livechat (link belowas well) where we can help answer all of your questions.

Please let us know how we can help, if you need any clarications, or suggestions to find a mouse suitable for you.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat gaming mouse for smaller hands.

Pros: This mouse fits my smaller-than-average hand perfectly. It feels very accurate, and has excellent grip on both sides. Great button/click feel, and the mousewheel doesn't slip when I middle-click (had this problem with my last mouse). The pads on the bottom are buttery smooth and seem like they will last a long time.

Overall, this is the best mouse that I've ever owned. I would especially recommend it if you find other gaming mice to be too large for your hand, or if you just like to be able to plant your wrist and use high sensitivity with the "claw" grip.

Cons: This mouse probably wouldn't be the best option if you have very large hands, or if you are someone who likes the back of the mouse to press firmly into the back of your palm. This mouse's small size and lack of a "big rear end" (so to speak) is perfect for me, but might be a negative for some people.

One other thing that might bother some people is the resting place for your ring finger. It took me a couple weeks to get used to the grip that this mouse forces you to do (but now I love it).

On a related note, be aware that this mouse is not ambidextrous. The one I have is right-handed.

There is no weight adjustment.

Other Thoughts: After being frustrated with mice that felt too large and clumsy, I'm very glad that I found this mouse.
