5 out of 5 eggsCM Storm Sirus - True 5.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset

Pros: Sound if great and allows for a wide amount of adjustment to your liking.

Cons: Minor static feedback cause by the connection between the headset and the desk sound adjuster. It can get pretty loud but not as loud as some other headphones can.

Other Thoughts: This is a great product, my first pair I had the mic messed up within a month, I wrote a post on here giving 2 stars and the company contacted me right away and sent me a brand new headset that has worked great. I've had it for over a year now and is still holding strong. Besides the minor static I hear occasionally when bumping the connection between the headset wire and the control Module everything is great.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Headset

Pros: Great Headset, drivers were easy to install for Windows 8, the control module works great (one of the lights on it won't light up until you install the drivers, just fyi). Very clear sound, others on Skype hear me well and I'm not fuzzy or bad sounding to them.

Cons: Only con is music quality isn't great, although a recent driver update really helped out the bass quality.

1 out of 5 eggscustomer service

Pros: could't tell you...

Cons: customer service

Other Thoughts: I've had this a week now and the deciding factor between the other ones I was looking at was the fact that customer service looked so great. I can't get it working properly, I have tried all their FAQ's and sent them multiple messages to their support email on their website. No response. pretty upset...

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsWarnings

Pros: Its light weight compared to other true 5.1 headsets.
Everything feels high quality, especially the cable and the turn knob.
Microphone works despite what other people claim.

Cons: Bass goes to zero volume at 30hz, not 10 as the official product specifications claim.

Bass is a fairly weak on volume even after turning bass to maximum decibel boost on the PC, maximum on the turn knob, and lowered the settings of all the other speakers so the bass could get more power.

It appears impossible to turn off the microphone using the turn knob, and also appears impossible using computer settings to turn off microphone constantly transmitting everything it hears into the speakers. It is very annoying. These may be due to lack of computer restart after software install.

It is impossible to use a sound card with the control knob. If you have installed a after market sound card into your computer and buy the version of this that comes with the knob, you will be a little sad not to get to use your sound card.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Imkharn,

Would you mind contacting us by phone, 888-624-5099, or LiveChat (link below) as we are curious what you are using to test the headset? We would like to know more to make sure we are providing the best products for our customers, yourself included. Plus, since the software is indepth, we can work through and help troubleshoot issues to getting the settings working to the best of their ability.

If you haven't been able to resolve the issue, the mic should be able to be muted by the control puck itself. Let us know and we'll see what we are able to do to correct this.

Also, the puck is meant to work as an all in one control center for the headset with many options to help customize the experiance. Though you lose the functionality of the puck when using the RCA connections with a sound card, one limits the extended issues when trying two softwares compete amongst eachother with sound card and puck. As the Puck is essentially it's own USB sound card. I hope this helps to enlighten on its usage.

Please don't be afraid to contact us to help us learn more and if you have any questions as well.

Respectfully,

Robert N.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY THIS

Pros: looks good, feels nice and sturdy, very efficient way to waste money

Cons: constant hum from both ear pieces even when everything is muted and turned down, i lasted about 10 minutes before i had to take them off.

Other Thoughts: this has potential to be a good product, i got this and started using it right away and after a half hour i contacted tech support. Tech support was no help and told me to send it back to newegg or them. My problem is that I HAVE TO PAY FOR SHIPPING FOR SOMETHING I ALREADY PAID TO HAVE SHIPPED TO MY HOUSE. I bought this and a cooler master water cooler at the same time, will be returning both based on my interaction with cooler master.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Dan,

I greatly apologize for the inconvenience you have recieved with your headset. If you haven't done so already and were within the 30 day purchase period, we will work with you knowing this is a brand new purchase. If you are over the 30 day policy, this is the terms of the warranty that we ask you to ship us the item. Yet, we cover shipping that product and any minor replacement parts to you. Please do call us or contact us via live chat (link below) to let us have the opportunity to make this right.

5 out of 5 eggsDo Buy

Pros: I'm very satisfied with this buy. I've had this for a little over a month now. the sound is crystal clear, and the surround sound feature is very accurate. very useful in playing rust. or any game that requires hearing for a fact. Only problem i have with it and i think its probably my computer's fault, is when i swap this out for my 2 stereo speakers, and swap it back, it takes a while for my computer to register it.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome 8 speaker headset

Pros: True surround sound
4 Speakers in each ear
Full, rich sound when properly configured
Comfortable, machine washable ear pads
Great software
Excellent customer service
Convenient USB interface
Lengthy cables

Cons: First USB device was defective. Still gets 5 stars because the true surround worked just fine without it.

I used the standard audio jacks until receiving a replacement USB device. Sound quality is absolutely improved with the USB device.

When initially plugging in through the USB device, the headset defaults to 2 speaker stereo sound. It should probably just default to 5.1 in case some people don't think to go into the software and change the settings

Other Thoughts: The first 2 headsets I tried were Razer Kraken 7.1 and Plantronics GameCom 780. Both of these products claimed to be surround sound but are actually just glorified stereo headphones with software mixing to make them sound surround sound-ish. Razer is especially misleading by naming their headset 7.1 when its actually just 2 speakers and doesn't come anywhere near actual surround sound quality. Unfortunately, the online reviews I read about these headsets didn't clarify how dramatic the difference between "virtual surround" and TRUE surround headsets really is.

This is where the CM Storm Sirus True 5.1 really shines. The 4 speakers in each ear blend game sounds into 360 degrees around your head. The direction that footsteps, voices, helicopters, etc, are coming from is very accurate, and provides information about whats going on in the games environment. The details are bold, subtle and plentiful. Believe me when I say there is no comparison between the Storm Sirus True 5.1 and "virtual surround" headsets. Think about it-- 2 vs 8 speakers doesn't lie.

As mentioned earlier, when I first received this headset, the USB interface was defective so I had to plug it in through standard audio jacks. This method worked just fine and provided me with a raw surround sound experience that I was very pleased with.

After a few months I became curious what i was missing with the USB device, and requested a new one under warranty. Much to my surprise, CM mailed me an entire brand new headset that worked perfectly. This gave me an opportunity to compare the differences between USB and standard audio hookups, and also the sound quality between a brand new headset and a broken-in one.

First of all, using the USB device instead of the audio jacks provides some serious benefits to overall sound quality of this headset. The USB device allows me to customize the sound quality via the Storm Sirus software, which has tons of useful features. The sound quality improves dramatically with the USB device and software (versus the audio jacks). The sound is now a more theatrical experience, complete with rumbling bass and dynamic environmental effects. I can change the size of the room sounds are in, the angling of the speakers, EQ, bass cut off, sample rate, etc..

Second of all, the brand new headset I received was a reminder of how raw the speakers initially sounded before being sufficiently broken-in. I tested them side by side through the USB interface and there was a noticeable difference in sound quality. My 3 month old set has a much fuller, richer and bassier sound than the brand new one. I am pleased to know that the speakers warmed up nicely in this fashion.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat for price

Pros: feels good on head
best think I love is i wear my headset for 4-5 hours a day and so cleaning the cups is easy because they come off. great great great idea, should be standard for all high end headphones.
sound is great and can use digital with the volume adjuster or just plug into your sound card with the 5.1 wires.

Cons: a little hum from other usb power, but when playing game or doing anything with sound you cant hear it at all only when no sound is present. probably not the best for large heads, but is still comfy. the mic is not as good as other i have used but it is a lot better than most.

Other Thoughts: great for the price have been trying to find a great headset for some time. this one is almost perfect for all that I want in a top end headset

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Headset

Pros: 5.1 surround sound.
Interchangeable ear cups.
Great sounding bass and treble.
Mic turns on and off when you flick it up and down, and picks up my voice loud and clear.

Cons: Doesn't function as a beverage helmet.

Other Thoughts: Sounds AWESOME when paired with a Creative Z Series Sound Blaster.

3 out of 5 eggsGood 5.1, Poor Mic

Pros: I like the true 5.1
Games sound great that are optimized for 5.1
Puck on-the-fly controls work great
Very comfortable

Cons: The biggest draw back with this headset is the microphone IF you have it plugged in through the puck. I wanted the puck for the on-the-fly controls AND the ability to use it with my existing 5.1 surround sound speakers. The problem is that when the headset is plugged in via the puck, the mic sensitivity is BAD! At night when I'm playing multiplayer games online, I have to use my "outside voice" in order for the mic to even pick it up. It really ruins this headset for me and I'd expect more for a headset that costs a little over $100. I've had cheap ($15) USB microphones in the past that work FAR better than the mic on this headset. The mic works better when it's plugged in via analog, BUT I have to unplug my 5.1 speakers every time I want to use my headset and have the mic work.

2nd con is that the analog cord is too short and you CAN'T flip the mic direction, meaning that if you're right handed and your computer is on your right, you're going to have a cord dragging from your left ear across your shoulder and mouse hand.

Other Thoughts: I'm docking 2 eggs for the cheap mic. I like their cases and fans, but this headset is one of those "live and learn" situations.

I would only recommend this headset to a user who:

A) Doesn't have an existing speaker set up, so that you can bypass the puck and use analog.

B) Wants the functionality of the puck, but doesn't intend to use the microphone.
