4 out of 5 eggsOne of the best for under $100.

Pros: LEDs (fancccyyy)
Enough Volume
Decent quality sound

Cons: They can feel somewhat heavy at times, would not recommend for those with a bad neck.

2 out of 5 eggsNot worth it

Pros: -Very appealing design.
-Sturdy aluminum construction.
-Detachable microphone.

Cons: -HORRIBLE sound quality, much worse than even my $20 logitech around-the-neck headset.
-Very, very uncomfortable ear cup design.
-Not breathable at all, sweat factories.
-Not a USB headset, USB powers only the LEDs and Microphone.
-Microphone is flexible, but does not stay where flexed.
-Very Heavy.
-Head cushion has a very shallow angle, and nougies you in the balder part of the head.

Other Thoughts: While the design is appealing, it is most certainly not ergonomic. Coupled that with shamefully bad audio quality, and you've got a pariah of a headset. Too bad, I was hoping for a bit more from CM.

After a few hours, I decided to return the device to the Fry$ Electronics where I purchased. I got the Corsair Vengence 1500 and I'm so glad I did, that headset blows this one out of the water, at about the same price-point too.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear valued customer,
I'm very sorry for the troubles you've encountered with your Pulse-R headset. The sound quality issues you had shouldn't be normal, as the Pulse-R is actually one of the best sounding headsets we have, especially with its bass drivers! We would love to hear back about your concerns with comfort, though. Please come talk to us directly via the Contact Us link below to share your comfort issues with the weight, cushioning, and ear cup design. The Pulse-R also uses the 3.5mm audio connectors for folks willing to use the headset on their phone or mobile music device on the go.

I know you said you already returned the headset, but if you ever have any technical concerns or need a replacement, please don't hesitate to contact us! I'm also including a link to our product registration and eRMA site as well, as the quality issue you mention is definitely not a normal occurrence.

4 out of 5 eggsVery competitive headset for the money

Pros: Very bassy. When things go boom you feel it in your brain! The audio has a lot of depth and dimension, I appreciated sound details that I didn't when using my speakers. I’m really particular about these over-ear sets, I often find them claustrophobic or uncomfortable for long durations… I didn't have a problem with these. My ears felt cushioned without my head feeling compressed. This is a comfortable and well-constructed headset.

Sound quality from the mic is fantastic. No distortion or static at all, which I’ve had problems with on cheaper headsets. The mic is flexible and can be easily adjusted by bending it. You can also detach it easily as it is connected via an audio jack. Usually I swing the mic up and out of the way, but on this set, you can just unplug it if you only want to use the headphones without the mic.

Beefy illuminated volume controls are built right into the cable, which, to me, is a must-have feature. Speaking of the cable, it’s one of those soft braided cables. It’s very long and doesn’t tangle easily.

Cons: Personally, I don’t listen to much music at my PC, but the strong bass does cause mild to moderate distortion. Not a big deal to me, but if you’re really picky about music, you’ll either want something more versatile or a second headset just for music. For future versions, I would include a bass toggle on the controls.

Other Thoughts: The aluminum earpiece plates are amusing but not a big deal. I can see how they wanted to give the headset a defining feature but ultimately it’s a gimmick. As gaming headsets go, I’d say this one is very competitive. It’s a well thought-out product, without any obvious flaws. I would easily recommend it to anyone needing a high-quality sub-$100 headset, unless they were more particular about music than they were about gaming.

4 out of 5 eggsGaming / Movies, not music

Pros: I find these to be fairly comfortable even wearing for long periods of time "over 2 hours", the mic is crisp and clear and the white led inside that turns on when you enable the mic "if you have the usb power connector plugged in" is a nice way to let you know if your mic is on or off. They do a pretty good job at blocking outside sound out, I was pleasantly surprised having smaller ear cups. They sound great for gaming, playing Starcraft 2, Battlefield 4, explosions are really brought to life, something that generally requires some level of bass boost on a lot of headphones, not these. They do fairly well with movies, I sat down and watched Avatar, they did fairly well as they have strong bass and midrange. The mic is detachable which is a nice feature if you don't use it or don't want it in the way. They are pretty sturdy, I'm not worried about breaking them. The cables are cloth wrapped and bend with ease.

Cons: These are gaming headphones, not music headphones. No matter how much EQ work I did, I could not get them to sound even half decent with audio.

The mic seemed to pickup a bit of noise when I had the USB power plugged in, due to my setup I could only try the port on my keyboard and the ones on the front of my case. This could be situational but something to note.

Other Thoughts: Overall being the market is a gaming headset, I think they hit the nail on the head. They have a good build quality and are quite comfortable wearing long term.

I also have a few pairs of closed can studio headphones that I use on a regular basis, I honestly find them to be far less comfortable then this headset which amazed me, when I first saw all the metal and the heavy band I was a little concerned.

I feel the need to add that when I talked about the audio quality in relation to music, I'm an audiophile and I produce music as a hobby, I am accustomed to very clear and balanced speakers and headphones when listening to music. These would be great if you prefer heavy bass in your music.

3 out of 5 eggsGood for games, not for music

Pros: Expansive bass. Metal and solid construction. Cool looking LEDs. Removable omnidirectional mic. Long cords. UBS powered.

Cons: Mids and Highs are lacking, bass is over-powerful at times. Does not "break-down" so you can't take it with you..have to use at home, not on-the-go.

Other Thoughts: I'm not a big gamer, but since this is a gamer's headset, I tested it, along with a friend of mine (that does game alot). We both found it fits comfortable on the head with plenty of cushion and like that it is over-the-ear, which feels better than on-the-ear pads. But after 30-40 minutes of use, the weight does start to take notice.

For games, the headset does preform well. It completely immerses you with sounds, music, effects in a 360-degree sphere.

The mic is detachable and does a good job of picking up your voice for talking (or screaming) with your team-mates while playing.

For music, you can use the 3.5mm headset connector with any device, PC, smartphone, etc. I found the music quality lacking, as bass was overwhelming (like Beats headphones) with less Mids, and Highs are missing.

If you want a good headset for gaming at home, this works great. But you can't really "take it with you" because of the size. For music quality, it is lacking, and would probably do better with "music centric" headphones.

4 out of 5 eggsImpressive

Pros: First and foremost, I have to praise the Pulse-R's bass performance. The bass sounds simply incredible, whether you're listening to music or gaming. Things like explosions and gun fire sound awesome in-game. The bass is crisp and punchy with no distortion at high volumes.

Build quality is very impressive for a sub $100 headset. The aluminum headband and customizable plates are a welcome edition, as they give this headset a quality feel to go along with the slick aesthetics. They are VERY comfortable to wear over long periods. The ear cups and headband seem to mold right to your head perfectly. I love how the headset remains stable even when you tilt your head 90 degrees. Other headsets I've had will fall right off your head in that scenario.

Uses a standard 3.5mm jack, which allows utilization of a high-end sound card to process the audio. This is important because USB based headsets have their own internal sound chips, so they bypass any sound cards you may have installed. The 3.5mm jack is also supported by other devices as well, such as smartphones and tablets. I tested this headset with my Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone and it sounded fantastic.

Braided cable is nice, not to mention plenty long enough. The white LED's are a nice touch as well. I love the removable cord and mic. Being able to remove the cord makes it a little easier to store or transport the headset.

Didn't have any issues with the mic performance. My voice comes out clear with no interference.

Cons: The mids and highs could be a little better. This is evident when playing music. That said, this headset still performs admirably in that regard. Music will sound great after a little EQ adjustment. I'm not surprised by this, as this headset is tweaked for gaming.

The inline volume control is a little annoying. I'd have rather seen a wheel for controlling the volume, as the slider is too sensitive and it can be tough to set it accordingly. Sometimes the slider will move when you don't want it to.

I don't like how the mic locks into place when it's connected. It won't pivot or anything. It bends slightly for minor adjustments, but that's it. This isn't a big deal, as the mic is removable. However, this design feels a bit clunky to me.

3.5mm analog sound means no support for Dolby Surround. Some ppl may be upset by this.

Other Thoughts: If you want a well-built, insanely comfortable 3.5mm gaming headset that delivers some incredible bass performance for under $100, this set of cans may be just what you're looking for. Cooler Master did an excellent job with these.

That said, audiophiles likely won't be satisfied with these, due to the mids and highs lacking proper depth for music. That said, with some adjustments they perform admirably in my opinion.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Surprising Stereo Headset

Pros: Great full range sound and deep bass. Metal construction. Very good microphone for a gaming headset (better than a SteelSeries 5hv2 and 7h). Very long cable with integrated volume and mic control. LED's on the cans, mic (which lets you know if the mic is on or off) and on the volume control. Color-coded headphone/mic minijack connections - super handy.

Cons: The headset doesn't break down, making traveling with it a little difficult. The mic locks in place and doesn't move, which didn't seem like a big deal but it's permanently stuck out at about 90 degrees from the left ear can. Very tight fitting pleather ear surrounds that do NOT breathe at all. The openings on the cans are kind of small, not an ideal size for people with larger ears. The LED's on the cans are bright and will reflect off certain computer screens and can be a bit distracting. The cable is a single long 10' piece - can be a bit annoying when you're playing on a laptop. Not a surround headset - stereo only.

Other Thoughts: Compared to much more expensive rivals from SteelSeries and Razer, these is a phenomenal mid-range headset. Microphone quality was much better than anything I've ever used in a sub-$100 headset, and the sound quality was on par with anything else out there. The LED's, although neat, are a bit distracting and I found myself not plugging in the USB connection so they wouldn't light up. Overall, a surprisingly good headset, that with a few tweaks (shorter cable with an extension cable a la SteelSeries, mesh ear surrounds, ability to break the headset down) should be on anyone's radar who is looking for a good stereo gaming headset for under $100.

4 out of 5 eggsExactly as described with a couple small caveats

Pros: The box design is pretty cool. You’ll notice the metal exterior of the earpieces which is a nice touch. I have had headphones in the past that snapped at the head connecting portion, these are sturdier and will not snap. They feel durable with no need to be worried about them breaking from a drop or being knocked off a desk. The cord is long to get to the PC so there’s a lot of give and it snaps into the headset with a connector that is removable. This is great so if someone were to yank the headphones it’ll come out rather than tug on the wearer. It was super easy to configure. As soon as you plug it in your 3.5mm jacks, the audio out and mic in are color coded on the set, your PC will pick them up and be ready for use. I loaded a few games from steam with some friends and the clarity using Mumble was perfect. I didn’t even have to set tweak my settings. The mic portion is removable which is great when I want to just use them as headphones. Bass notes hit well and the control for volume that’s attached to the cord was nice and sensitive.

I gave these a good run for the money with a 6 hour gaming session. They were comfortable to wear. They feel a bit large but they are easy to wear for extended gaming sessions.

Cons: When plugged in the cord’s volume control and mic control area glows. Originally one might think “neat” however using this in a bedroom would mean it’s constantly glowing. You have to unplug it from the USB source to get it to turn off. In addition the actual headset earpieces glow. The only way to stop them from glowing is again unplug USB source or the cable that attaches to the headset. Even if you get the headset to stop glowing the cable won’t. The addition of a switch to turn on/off lighting would have been a welcome one. An obvious solution is to simply not plug in the USB that powers the light (that’s pretty much its only purpose) and it’ll be what I do although it was a neat feature that a simple switch would have allowed to make better use of.

Other Thoughts: They are definitely designed for gaming audio clarity wise. They cannot, however, replace my Ultrasone Pro 550 headphones for listening to music. The range on the highs and lows is good but the mid-range is somewhat lacking. It’s designed for gaming and it’s great at what it does. They can replace most earbuds though. They will be nice for a second set while on a long plane ride to help mute out exterior noise.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW--- Finally a great pair for Bass and dynamic range

Pros: These headphones at first seemed just like another pair I had in the house. After putting them on you can tell the company really thought out all aspects of the design and user experience.

The headphones from the start have a great appeal to them showing quality.

Before you put them on and start listening to them the cables alone are not cheap plastic coating that will tangle easily. They are a high quality cloth/mesh braided material making it more comfortable when the cable touches your skin as it is not ice cold or the awkward feeling the plastic/rubber feeling gives me when the other cables touch your skin while gaming. The USB/Power and Audio/Microphone are all in one small cable.

The volume selector & On/Off switch on the cable that attaches to the headphones is easy to see in the dark because the beautiful WHITE LED

The headphones themselves have a great feeling when worn for a long time because of the cushioned ear cups. They are great at noise canceling while they are on. I did not hear any noise while wearing them. This caused me to be in the zone and concentrated on the game and others communicating on my team chat.

The outside of the headphones have a great aesthetic futuristic look with the aluminum plates with a bright WHITE LED accent light behind them.

The top of the headphones. when expanded to fit your head, wont rip your hair out when removed. Because they have a nice thick foam cushion to keep you comfortable and snag free while playing and removing them makes these the ones you will love for years.

I was really impressed with the sound quality, For a gaming headset they amazed me with the dynamic range and superior driver matching making me feel as if these would be hundreds of dollar professional headphones. The lowest I could hear during my benchmark was 70dBFS (decibels below full scale)-- The range of highs and lows was far above and beyond my expectations. The BASS was of exceptional quality as I was able to feel and hear the bass at a low 10Hz.

The microphone is nicely spaced from your mouth allowing your voice to be clear and accurate the first time so your team can communicate effectively. The microphone can be removed when not needed making this a great set of headphones- not only for gaming but as the best headphones also for listening to music. --These are a one set for all tasks involving audio and recording.

Don't worry if you don't have a USB port on your device as it is only needed for the LED to be light. This works great on my tablet =) Again very versatile

Cons: The packaging the headphones came in is difficult to keep opening and closing when putting away the headphones for safe keeping. This is nothing to take away an egg from but does need to be addressed since the box is easy to store the headphones and cable for safe keeping when stored.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this to anyone as a great headset for gaming or just listening to music.

The price is the really low for the high quality you receive.

The White LED accent and lighting on the volume selector makes it great to use in the dark or give you that great look.

If you listen to music or watch movies these too would be a great fit for traveling as the noise canceling is a wonderful.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Headset for Multiplayer FPS Gaming

Pros: This is a great headset for multiplayer gaming due to the following reasons
a) Comfortable fit
b) Close fit cushion which filters outside noise
c) Great Bass and Highs
d) Mic is oriented nicely
e) Ideal weight and balance making it comfortable for long gaming hours
f) Volume control built in to the headset wire
g) Drivers can clearly emit positional audio

Cons: The mid-range is not great, thus this headset is not good for listening to music. Difference is noticeable esp. when compared to Sennheiser HD201 which was my all purpose headset before CM Storm Pulse-R. But it just does not matter when FPS gaming.

Other Thoughts: The White light that illuminates the drivers, microphone and the the control looks cool at night, it surely makes your gaming ring that much cooler. The LEDs need power from a free USB port. I initially thought the headset had bulit-in USB sound card but that is not the case.

BTW I used the headset with Creative Recon 3D soundcard which has a dedicated headset amp, and it works great with it.
