They use IR, which is a pro and a con. You need to be in line of sight with the transmitter for them to work properly but you need to be in line of sight with a TV anyway so its perfect for me. I now watch TV without bothering the wife with loud gunshots and explosions while she snoozes. She controls the TV volume, and even if she mutes it I still hear it at the volume I dial in on the headset. This product rocks! Cons: If you walk out of the room with the headset on it turns to static. This is an acceptable issue with IR. I still prefer it over something like bluetooth or wireless radio signals. Other Thoughts: If you and your spouse have trouble agreeing on the volume, this might be a perfect solution for you, especially if one of you has hearing loss. Its worth every cent. Cons: The features state : Cordless TV Headphones work with your TV or audio device - Includes adapters to enable use with most televisions (including most flat screens), stereos, or audio devices. Quick and easy to set up. I dont know about you but to me this sounds like if I buy this product it WILL work on my television. It doesn't.
