Mad Catz R.A.T. TE Mouse

PMad Catz

Built for the New Generation of Competitive Gaming

Nimble, customizable, and immensely precise, Mad Catz' Tournament Edition R.A.T. Gaming Mouse provides the speedy mouse movement competitive gamers require. Adjustable lift-off height enables the 8200dpi sensor to be set to a level which sidesteps z-axis tracking issues. Precision Aim mode permits on-the-fly cursor sensitivity adjustment to steady your aim. And, a simple yet powerful drag-and-drop software interface can equip each of the nine programmable buttons with custom macros. Designed by and for hardcore PC gamers, the Tournament Edition R.A.T. Gaming Mouse is a fierce weapon that puts a full arsenal of cutting-edge features at your fingertips.

Elevated Precision

Making a first-ever appearance in a gaming mouse, an 8200dpi Laser Doppler sensor automatically detects the gaming surface it's on and then makes game-critical adjustments. Optimized for virtually any surface – even black gaming surfaces – you can stay in control of your cursor in any gaming situation. High-speed motion detection reaches 20 feet per second (6m/s) and acceleration maxes out at 50Gs. Practically immune to ambient light and dust, enhanced sensor tracking translates into more precise movement and increased in-game kill rates.

Cleared for Lift-off

Lift-off height is a measure of distance between a mouse and gaming surface. Lifting and repositioning a mouse while gaming can interfere with tracking on the z-axis. The height at which a mouse still tracks after removal from the gaming surface is a matter of personal preference.

Enter the Tournament Edition R.A.T., capable of lift-off calibration previously unseen in a gaming mouse. Precise sensor calibration offers the freedom to tweak the lift-off height to suit your individual style of gameplay. Optimized for both lift-off speed and detection when landing, you can adjust lift-off distance from 0.2mm to 1mm.

PMad Catz

Simplified Target Tracking

Precision Aim mode grants on-the-fly cursor sensitivity adjustment. After an uncomplicated setup process within the downloadable programming software, one press of the oversize, easy to actuate Precision Aim button steadies your aim. Another powerful component bolstering your weaponry, Precision Aim mode helps you hit your target the first time, every time.

27 Custom Paths to Victory

An intuitive drag-and-drop software interface delivers total control over each of the programmable buttons and allows the creation of an unlimited number of profiles. Each profile accommodates 27 user-definable commands via nine programmable buttons over three modes. Easily establish a profile for different games and character builds such as sniper, tank, and healer. Within each profile, you can definedpi settings, map media functions, designate Precision Aim sensitivity, assign simple or complex macro timing, and set key bindings. Whether your game of choice is FPS, RPG, or any other genre, you have the power to customize your enemies' demise.

PMad Catz

Personalize Your Dots per Inch

Four user-definable dpi settings range from 100 to 8200. A convenient dpi button cycles through custom settings, granting easy access to sensitivity adjustments.

Tenaciously Durable

Courtesy of longer-lasting build materials, this R.A.T. can prevail for five years under extreme duress. And that's if you game six hours a day, six days a week, all year long. Don't play that much? Expect this R.A.T. to last considerably longer. Buttons which typically see the most action – left and right mouse buttons – employ OMRON switches rated at five million cycles.

PMad Catz

Fast and Lightweight

Weighing in at a mere 3.2oz (90 grams) excluding the cable, the R.A.T. TE is one of the lightest gaming mice currently available. A translucent chassis and agile baseplate smoothly glide atop slick and quiet PTFE feet. Providing next to zero resistance on most gaming surfaces, lightning-quick reactions immediately translate to in-game actions.

Ergonomically Upgraded

An array of ergonomic improvements to this version R.A.T. enhances comfort and control. New-style pinkie and thumb rests harmonize with the natural contours of your digits. And, the palm rest is length adjustable, easily adapting to your hand size and grip technique.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible mouse overall in terms of performance

Pros: The comfort and buttons were spot on. The thumb rest was a plus and the modes were pretty good. The software is simple to use and customizing the buttons and macros were very easy.

The accuracy of the sensor was a tad bit off, you wouldn't be able to notice it in non-gaming activities. not bad for laser sensor

Cons: the dreaded z-axis laser sensor issue. With all of this madness, my aim in fps games was terrible and if I slightly lifted the mouse towards me, the cursor would move to the bottom right diagonally. Lifting this mouse just a tad bit will incur the curse of the z-axis issue. I'm back to my old mouse and have RMAed the mouse.

The adjustability was not comfortable. There was no real way for me to grip the mouse in a hybrid palm/claw grip. The slide-able back section was easy to use but there was never a real comfort spot that I could use permanently.

The scroll wheel wasn't too bad but it was way to rigid

The cord tends to get tangled up lots and restricts your mouse movements and flicks. Be prepared to flatten out your cord.

The laser sensor was a bit off and i died in fps games lots. My aim lowered and it was terrible. After a month of not using this mouse, i'm still getting used to my old mouse.

Other Thoughts: don't believe the myth that laser sensors are much better. There are lots of flaws and the optical sensor was the way to go. The liftoff will be a problem for many and there won't be any solution until much later. Stick to your optical sensors!

This is preference but i like the heavier mice so this wasn't the best option for me.

If you have big hands, you also may not like this mouse

installation was easy, you didn't have to download all the drivers and software, that is optional so the plug in and game option works.

The software isn't annoying like razer synapse's update system. It stays minimized and is good

2 out of 5 eggsMad Catz R.A.T. Te Mouse

Pros: The mouse looks awesome matches my blue theme of my pc awesome functions and its adjustable to fit most peoples hands.

Cons: I dont know if its the laser or the actual software for the mouse, but it likes to move on its own. This doesnt bother me that much when im just browsing the web but when i go to play games such as league of legends its a real bother. it stops short of where i need it to be aimed or just feels slow at times. I feel like i spend more of my time fighting it than actually using it.

Other Thoughts: I really do like the mouse thats why i kept it so long but im getting rid of it soon cause its just too much of an annoyance to deal with.

5 out of 5 eggsTHIS MOUSE IS AWESOME

Pros: I've never had a mouse like this one before. I've always been broke and unable to afford my own awesome stuff instead of fixing other people's, and I couldn't be happier. My hands are odd-sized, super long fingers, short palms. Usually mice are super uncomfortable. This thing fits like a charm, don't have to contort my fingers in weird ways to press every button, and the only thing that bugs me is where I broke my hand a few years ago, not the mouse's fault.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: The reviews say the software isn't very intuitive, five seconds of looking at the options and moving your mouse over the squares and you'll have it figured out pronto. Unless you set the dpi to max and change the precision aim to 75% or so you won't really notice it, and 75% is almost too much.

3 out of 5 eggsHigh res sensor; uncomfortable

Pros: This mouse has a super high resolution sensor. This is great for those who may demand the most response or speed from a mouse

Cons: This mouse is very uncomfortable. It is about a customizable as a RAT 3. I was getting wrist strain and achy hand using it.

Other Thoughts: The main advantage of the TE over the other models is the sensor unless you get a RAT 9.

2 out of 5 eggsGood mouse, flimsy construction.

Pros: Fits my hand very well, and is very comfortable with claw grip.

Responsive and big buttons.

Good scroll wheel. People tend to not use this nearly as much as anything else on this mouse, but after having scroll wheels on cheap mice pooped out on me when i need it many times this is a really nice feature.

Light. This might be a con for some people, but I play with low sensitivity and i move the mouse around alot, and i definitely don't want to get carpal tunnel by the time I'm 24.

Cons: My mouse, at least, were assembled pretty poorly and showed signs of use. The bottom of the plastic base of the mouse that sticks out from the body (where they stick a teflon foot onto) looks like it's been through stress. It's as if someone just pressed down on that teflon feet really hard, and the plastic that stuck out has these white fracture lines (if you bend a piece of plastic just before it breaks you'll see the same stress mark)

The piece of plastic that you rest your thumb on (with the thumb button) is a separate piece of plastic that they stuck to the side of the mouse. Mine came off as i was playing couple weeks in, and when i inspect the holes that you would stick the side piece of plastic on i see the same stress mark. Now i just stick it on there and hold it with my thumb as I'm playing. It's not a tight fit unless i super glue it, but it's mega awk to play without it. It's the thumb rest and the biggest teflon foot is under there.

The tracking acts funky sometimes too. Sometimes, for a split second the cursor won't move vertically, at all. Kind of annoying.

I know madcatz is a very reputable brand so I'm just gonna chalk it up as being unlucky, but it really suck when my mouse just fell apart the way it did. It would have been a really nice mouse otherwise.

Maybe I could RMA it or something, but it's probably too late now.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's just okay

Pros: I bought it on sale and I like the colors on it.

Cons: Even for the price I paid, I felt that I did not get my moneys worth. It feels cheap, not very customizable compared to their other models, not very ergonomic for me, and comes with software I will never use.

Other Thoughts: After two months of using this mouse I have noticed that it stops responding randomly. Not a lot but it's enough to cause frustration since I only had it for a short time. It could be a software problem though.

5 out of 5 eggsUnusual mouse, great for claw/fingertip gaming

Pros: Light
Ideal shape for claw or fingertip grip
Good software
Very configurable button setup
Usual macro

Cons: Scroll wheel could do with a little more feedback
Braided cable little too stiff
One thumb button too far back for me

Other Thoughts: Needed a replacement for my Deathadder
I prefer a light mouse, so the original RAT mice were off the menu as they were too heavy for me. When this mouse became available I went for it. Usually I game with optical mice at around 1800-2200dpi speed, this mouse goes up to 8200, bit wasted on me, however using a cloth mat this mouse is incredibly accurate even with 1800dpi.
Took me some time to get used to the shape as I was coming from a slimmer, longer mouse, however I prefer the wider, shorter shape as I am a fingertip grip gamer usually. The weight was ideal for me and the shape was almost perfect. The rear thumb button was placed too far back, however I have adopted a slightly different style now for hitting this button.
The scroll wheel could do with a little more feedback and the cable is far too stiff and thick.
Pro's outweigh cons, this is a keeper.

1 out of 5 eggsfeels like plastic--and it is

Pros: moves the cursor

Cons: I have the RAT7 and it is phenomenal--thought I would try MadCatz to see if it's better (smh) disappointed.

Other Thoughts: This might appeal to those that like the feel of light plastic in their hands -- if you do, then this is for you.
