Features

Features
Range: The RF Remote for Windows Vista provides a range of up to 90 ft (about three times the distance of infrared remotes).

Convenience: Unlike an infrared remote, this RF remote does not require line of sight to the RF receiver. This allows you to manage Media Center from more areas within the room or even from other areas of your house.

Flexibility: Since the RF signal works through walls and furniture, you have more flexibility in locating the PC that will be used to run Media Center. For example, you can place the PC inside an entertainment center cabinet or within an AV closet and still easily control Media Center with the remote.
No software is needed. Just plug the USB receiver into your PC and it works within seconds.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks on Windows 8

Pros: Works in Windows 8. Has basic functions. Volume, Mute, Arrow Keys, Play, Pause, Record, & Information in Cyber Link 10, or any Coral Win DVD. No Eject button. Supports Blue Ray basic functions. Can't get hot keys to work yet. Wonder if there is a driver program for it to use the hot keys.

Cons: No Hot Keys in Windows 8 yet on remote. Would like ITunes to start when I press music key.

Other Thoughts: Good remote for basic use in Windows 8. Fully functional in Windows 7. Does what I need it too. I'll need to look for program driver. 5 eggs for great value!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It has decent range and works well on media center as well as other programs like media monkey and VLC media player, but with limited functionality.

Cons: The remote was intended for media center and that's the only place you really get to use all of the buttons. The fast forwards and rewind option doesn't work in programs like VLC media player or media monkey, but you still have the ability to play, pause, stop, and skip back and forth between tracks.

Other Thoughts: It would have been nice to be able to reconfigure the remote to work with all media programs and remap certain buttons for other functions.

1 out of 5 eggsNo better than my $9 IR remote

Pros: Didn't require a driver disc to work with my Windows 7 media center. "Plug and play"

Cons: Line of sight IS required. If I plug the keyfob into the back of my HTPC, the remote doesn't work. I literally had to walk around to the back of my computer and point the remove control directly at the keyfob to get it to work.

In other words, despite the claims that this remote does not require line-of-sight - it does! RMA to newegg, I want my money back on this one. I've never returned an item (I have a box of items here that didn't live up to my expectations) "I'm not that kind of guy" but in this case I'm so angry I am going to go through all the hassle to get my money back.

Don't waste your money on Keyspan products!

Other Thoughts: If you thought you would buy this RF remote control as a replacement for your IR control, because you were tired of having to point the remote directly at the IR receiving box - then don't by this remote! Keyspans "RF" remote requires line-of-sight to work.

If you don't mind having a 2" dongle stick out of the front of your HTPC, and you are only 10' from your receiver at all times, then by all means buy the Keyspan RF remote.

4 out of 5 eggsOk for the price

Pros: All buttons are perfectly mapped to Windows Media center out of the box. Used on Windows 7 32-bit it was plug and play. Range is ok. What do you expect at this price?

Cons: For some reason the remote worked perfectly fine for about 2 days and then my media pc would hang on the login screen showing a cursor and black background, and nothing else. Ctrl+Alt+Del would not work. Turned out it was the RF receiver. Unplugged it, and computer boots fine. Kind of annoying cause I have to boot the pc and then plug it in once in windows.

Other Thoughts: Wish there was software that would allow me to remap some of the buttons on top.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well!

Pros: Works very well and doesn't require line of sight. I can put the USB dongle on the back of my PC instead of making the front look ugly like with IR remotes.

Cons: Not really a con as this is WINDOWS fault, but without an IR blaster, you can't setup your tv tuner properly to use the better inputs on the TV card. Again, not the remotes fault, maybe this will help someone not buy this for that reason.

Other Thoughts: Looks nice, it's light weight, works from the other room.

I ordered it 2-10-2011 and it showed up after lunch on 2-11-2011. Can't beat that with a stick.

2 out of 5 eggsUnimpressive at best

Pros: Simple layout--a good balance between spartan presenter remote and NASA launch center.

Cons: Very poor range and inconsistent response. Also had same experience another reviewer had: first unit died for no apparent reason within a month.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat, for a while

Pros: Easy to install. Plug and play on Windows 7 64 bit and operates flawlessly in Windows Media Center

Cons: I've owned this remote for about 6 months. a few weeks ago It just quit working. I replaced batteries and followed the pairing instructions with no success. I'm now having to look for a new remote. Also the printing on the buttons tends to wear off quickly, especially on the buttons that get used frequently, faster than you would like it to.

Also while it was working it did have several cases where a single press of the button would result in a double-press; very irritating.

Other Thoughts: Be VERY cautious when deciding to purchase this remote and don't expect it to live forever. I bought it specifically because it was RF and did not require a direct line of sight to the receiver for operation. Not quite an acceptable trade off for only 6 months of operation.

5 out of 5 eggsBuy this one

Pros: Excellent range, easy setup, works well, does windows 7 with no problems.

Cons: markings on the buttons wear off quickly, though this is true of all this style of remote.

Other Thoughts: I've had several media center remotes, and this is by far the best, most reliable unit I've had. The RF makes the difference.

2 out of 5 eggsBack Button Doesn't Work in Win7

Pros: I have a media server in the garage feeding video over cable to our rooms. We use this remote with the USB receiver in the attic to control the server. We have two of these remotes and they worked well in Vista 7 throughout our entire house.

Cons: In Windows 7 the back button no longer functions. I believe this is a key mapping issue but I haven't found a software fix yet. Keyspan needs a driver update to fix.
