3 out of 5 eggsTLDR Mouse 5/5. Software 1/5. Good product Poor software and many issues

This review is from: Corsair Gaming SCIMITAR RGB MOBA/MMO Gaming Mouse, Black, Key Slider Mechanical Buttons, 12000 dpi, Multi color

Pros: The mouse is everything you could ask for. Has a great feel in your hand, shaped very well. The slider and 12 additional buttons are very handy...as long as you figure out how you want them bound and through the software remap the keys. (They do not come preprogrammed as some people may believe). Quality of the mouse is very high, from the construction, keys, even to the cord. Endless customization via lighting, macros, buttons.

Cons: The software is plagued with issues and can seem very complex to set up. Paying this much for a mouse you expect a plug and play...this was not the case. It is more of a plug and malfunction. the software is plagued with bugs making you unable to make a profile for the mouse to make any changes or customization. More than half the time it won't even detect the mouse, or will list it as malfunctioning. after spending quite a while on the forums you find you have to download the outdated version of the software to get it to work. Unfortunately the old software comes with some bugs as well, including random mouse disconnects, chopping scrolling, and not registering both left or right clicks.

Other Thoughts: I love the mouse itself. had the software been released functioning as intended without an incredible amount of bugs and errors this would easily be 5/5. The software and issues it causes are the downfall. Once fixed, which I believe it will be (although it's already been a while since release with no real fixes) it will be great.

2 out of 5 eggsDo your best to avoid the Scimitar

This review is from: Corsair Gaming SCIMITAR RGB MOBA/MMO Gaming Mouse, Black, Key Slider Mechanical Buttons, 12000 dpi, Multi color

Pros: First, I'd like to start with the positive sides of the Scimitar. Compared to other thumb grid mice in the $80 range, the build quality is much more superior. The side buttons have almost a mechanical feel to them and are placed just right as to avoid button sticking. The slider is a nice feature, if a bit unnecessary. It's also capable of full chroma color customization all around the mouse which is pretty neat to look at. Unfortunately, the only positive points for the mouse come from its build quality.

Cons: As my first Corsair product, I expected to find the level of quality everyone just can't stop talking about when the phrase "k70" is mentioned. To my disappointment, the Scimitar's software is a complete deal breaker because it's shear inability to function correctly. The Corsair Utility Engine that is required for this mouse to utilize many of its features is riddled with bugs to put it simply. Random disconnects, profile switching, and magical button remapping are but a few of the Scimitar's realities. The corsair forums are clogged with users unable to use the current firmware version because a great deal of the time the mouse won't load any of its profiles correctly and is subsequently reduced to little more than a $10 bargain bin mouse. I purposely waited a couple weeks to review the Scimitar in the hopes that these issues would be fixed, but I was not so lucky. As of today, there is still no working solution to the buggy firmware other than rolling it back to 1.06 which had its own share of problems. The worst issue I encountered (on both the current and old firmware) was an issue with steam that caused every game I owned to immediately crash or stop responding altogether. I initially had no idea the mouse was causing the problem and ended up completely reinstalling Steam in a desperate attempt to fix it, but the issue was not with steam, it was with the Corsair Utility Engine. I'm now only able to play Steam games with the CUE software completely closed, invalidating any usefulness the Scimitar may have provided as a gaming mouse. From what I gathered on the forums including from the mouths of the Corsair employees moderating there, they simply don't test their mice thoroughly enough. One employee stated that the Scimitar was only being tested by 40 people with different build configurations and unsurprisingly couldn't identify or replicate the problems many Scimitar owners were having. This isn't the case of one lemon, in fact, the whole bloody barrel is full of lemons.

Any other owner in my position would have returned the mouse, but I have an extremely high tolerance for software issues as a software engineer myself.

Other Thoughts: In the Scimitar's current state of buggy firmware/software limbo, I cannot recommend this mouse to anyone. CUE is a complete glitchy disaster with constant issues ranging from random mouse disconnections to its compatibility issues with Steam that essentially locks you out of your library if the mouse is plugged in. If you're looking for a functional mouse with a thumb grid, look at the other $80 alternatives (even if their build quality is quite a bit inferior) After this charade, I can't help but feel cheated for the first time in my life after buying a product.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's Great!

This review is from: Corsair Gaming SCIMITAR RGB MOBA/MMO Gaming Mouse, Black, Key Slider Mechanical Buttons, 12000 dpi, Multi color

Pros: The software is very nice, the quality & looks of the mouse are outstanding. I came from a Logitech G602 & it had trouble staying connected, seems the driver had issues. This is a much better feeling mouse, as the response is excellent. Positioning the key slider in the middle seems best for me, but you have an array of customization with this mouse.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: My System:
i7-5960x
Three EVGA GTX 980Ti SC 2.0
Samsung 950 Pro 512MB
Two Samsung 850 Pro 1TB (Raid 0)
Corsair Low Profile 3,000MHz 32GB
EVGA 1200 X1 PS
Full Watercooling Loop
Phanteks Enthoo Primo
