1 out of 5 eggsEats mouse feet

Pros: Has two surfaces, both are good i prefer the slick one.
mousepad stays in its spot.
The cord holder is a plus

Cons: Eats mouse feet like no other, after two weeks of using this mousepad my mousefeet are starting to show serious wear. I play sc2 its not like im playing a fps shooter either.

Other Thoughts: I enjoyed this mousepad feel alot better than mouse-pads from other manufacturers..... BEFORE my mousefeet were ate.

Seeing as it ruins your equipment so quickly and I wasn't even using the resistance side which you can feel would cause it even faster i'm giving this 1 egg. I was really impressed and was going to give this a 5 eggs until I saw my mousefeet... I shouldn't of ignored other users warnings..

3 out of 5 eggsWears Out

Pros: Great Construction
Decent Price
Great Tracking
Two Surfaces

Cons: The pad wears out quite fast. I owned the original 1030, the orange and blue one from turn of the 00s. I didn't buy this one off Newegg, but I do own this. I am quite dissapointed with this pad. Using this pad regularly for about a year and a half the smoother side has worn down noticeably where the teflon feet of my mouse came in contact with the pad.

Unfortunately this causes inconsistency in using the mouse and moving it around the pad. When it hits the worn out areas, it sticks. It's very distracting. I'll probably just be flipping it over and using the rough side since this isn't a square and you can't rotate it.

Other Thoughts: It's a great pad, the surfaces are awesome, just the durability sucks. It's built amazing, it just doesn't last

5 out of 5 eggsFunc is back!

Pros: I purchased the original Func 1030 a decade ago and was still using it when I ordered this one. I wanted a larger mouse pad than the original Func but every mouse pad I tried just couldn't compare to the original Func 1030 until now. I tested the C4-NGen04 and a Steel Series mouse pad but nothing compares to the smoothness of the Func!

Cons: It took them this long to replace the original 1030.

Other Thoughts: This is the best mouse pad money can buy and I recommend it to everyone. My wife is an artist and she liked it so much she had me order her one.

5 out of 5 eggsAn update to previous review

Pros: Wanted to make sure I was accurate, I tried the Ouroboros again on this pad and it tracked just fine - no jitters like before. Still had to turn off the mouse mat compatibility features in Synapse though.

Cons: Not sure if this is much of a con, but keep it clean! Oil from your hands/fingers will affect tracking ever so slightly - started noticing some weird movement from a SteelSeries Sensei where it had worked just fine before, wiping the oils off the pad quick fixed it (more of an issue on the smooth side, rough side doesn't get affected as much). Less of a problem with palm grip mice / MS-3, since less of your hand touches the mat unlike the lower profile mice (Sensei, Lachesis, etc.)

Other Thoughts: Got a chance to try the G9x like I mentioned in my original post, wanted to say it tracks perfectly too and glides smooth on both surfaces.

5 out of 5 eggsAn improvement over an already-good predecessor

Pros: Dual sides (you could consider it a 2-for-1 deal I suppose, but the surfaces aren't the same), you can choose the type of surface that fits your preference. The "frame" the Rev 2 pad sits in is completely rubber /flexible this time (instead of the hard plastic frame of the first Surface 1030). It definitely won't slide around on you, and the rubber frame hugs the "transition edge" nicely, making this area comfortable instead of sharp if you were to run your palm/wrist along it while mousing. The cord clip works well, and is a nice additional bonus for helping keep cords out of the way (braided cords fit without a problem).

I haven't had any tracking problems with my Func MS-3 (which is the mouse I bought this pad for) but see the Cons section for some of my other experiences.

Cons: Razer mice still don't like it - like the first Surface 1030, my Lachesis 5600 and Ouroboros suffer from noticeable skips and jitters (incidentally, the Lachesis doesn't get perfect tracking on my Destructor 2 either - had the first Destructor, was wearing out, replaced it with the "next generation," seems to work better with "next gen" Razer mice as well...)

I haven't tried any of the calibration settings for different mouse pads with the Ouroboros yet (last time I tried, things got really screwy with the Ouroboros tracking so I turned it back off). I don't know if this is by design (one could see why it would be a benefit for Razer mice to prefer Razer pads...but it also makes sense - why NOT tune your mice to your own mouse pads? Can't really fault em for that I guess...).

I don't really consider that a con though, as I didn't really buy this pad for them, I bought it for my MS-3. A great match for this pad, but the rough side needs a little time to break in - it feels "scratchy" at first, works itself out after a few days.

My SteelSeries Sensei tracks nicely on it too, but I prefer using that on a cloth pad for now. I have a G9x which I haven't tried yet on this pad, but I'd assume it would work just as well as the MS-3 since they use a very similar sensor.

I guess if I were to try and find another con...the frame adds some height to the pad? There's already another Func pad without the frame available though, so if that's an issue you probably aren't looking at this one anyway. Most dual-sided mouse pads are generally a few millimeters taller than single-sided pads.

Other Thoughts: The packaging is refreshingly simple and minimalistic. Definitely more "professional" than most other gaming peripherals, which I appreciate. You don't buy a mouse pad for the packaging...but it's just nice that you can see the same thought process throughout ALL aspects of the product. Simple, effective, efficient. Everything you need, nothing you don't - I love that Func in general doesn't waste my time with gimmicks, all of their products I've used (HS-260, KB-460, MS-3, Surface 1030 XL) are very effective at what they do and don't get in your way when working or playing. I try to vote with my wallet whenever I can, and I like what Func is doing. Peripherals in general are really subjective, personal preference plays a huge part, but Func has managed to match my own personal preferences better than anyone else at the moment.
