5 out of 5 eggsThere When I Needed It

Pros: Believe it or not, some of us still upgrade our 1-2 year old computers. No reason to buy a new DVD drive with every new computer. In fact, when i upgrade, I'll probably buy a PCI-based IDE controller card to attach my DVD drives to. IDE isn't dead yet!

Cons: None. I knew it was IDE, and since every computer I own has IDE, I knew I would need it.

Other Thoughts: The hdd in my wifes computer crashed. She didn't have any backups (she never remembered to plug-in her external drive). I figured I would give her two HDDs the next time so she'd have an always-on backup, but her motherboard only had 2 S-SATA ports. Luckily, this IDE drive came with the HDD I ordered, so I took-out the SATA DVD drive and replaced it with this. Otherwise, I was going to have to cannibalize my own computer.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat paper weight.

Pros: It was free

Cons: It wont work for a newer motherboard. I guess its my fault for not reading but still i dont know why it would come free when you buy a SATA hard drive. They must really want to get rid of these things. Honestly i wouldnt have even bought the seagate HDD if i knew. Would have just gone for a western digital. Guess im off to buy a DVD drive now that will work.

5 out of 5 eggsCheap and reliable so far

Pros: This drive is low cost and a good brand. I ordered 2 and have had no issues with either in 4 months.

Cons: One of the drives is a bit loud for certain disks, but not for all. This is how most optical drives are, so not a big deal.
