This CD-RW drive from Lite-On features 52X read and write speeds, and 32X on re-write. The drive uses Smart-Burn technology which automatically varies the drive speed according to the media in use, and checks the quality of the finished media, so you get working copies, not coasters. Playback is just as reliable with Smart-X high-performance DAE and VCD data extraction ensuring smooth, stable playback.

The unit's VAS (Vibration Absorber System) reduces vibration during recording and reading, which gives you quiet operation, in addition to protecting your data and drive from vibration damage. The drive connects via ATAPI/EIDE, and supports Windows 2000, ME, and XP. You'll appreciate the insanely fast performance of this dedicated CD drive.

Pros: Does it's described job with no problem. Bought as a replacement after my Sony drive went out and I'm happy.

Cons: None so far and can't beat the price.

Other Thoughts: This is OEM so make sure you have all the cables necessary for installation.

Not what they used to be

Pros: Fairly quiet when running at constant speed. Nero Drive Speed can set its speed. Comes with Nero 7.

Cons: Had read error during file copies. Tried on two machines. Tried as slave and as master only. I own it's ancestor (52246S - still working) from 2003. Much better drive phyically. This one is very light weight, has flimsy tray, and the tray is belt driven instead of gear driven as the old one is.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. I paid $50 for the 52246 from NewEgg in 2003. I'd gladly pay it again for a good drive.

Pros: Did what it said. Easy install, about 10 min, and works great. Plug and play. No drivers to load. With the price, you can't beat it.

Cons: Shipping Cost

Pros: Well, its cheap and i'm sure it does the job well on a computer that doesn't have to deal with DVD's.

Cons: NOT SATA don't make the same mistake i did and not read all the reviews and specs for this thing. Oh and it is a little on the loud side.

Other Thoughts: The one i wanted was out of stock and i was too impatient to wait for it so i quickly bought this one because i saw the price and thought it would do just fine for my build. DOH! should have known that the price was so cheap for a reason.

Pros: Well, It works.

Cons: Noisy
Not a DVD drive
Not a SATA interface

Other Thoughts: Go with a full Dvd sata drive. They may be 7 bucks more, but as time passes, you will want somewhat up to date hardware.
