4 out of 5 eggsDoes not play well in Linux

Pros: Works fine in win 7.

Cons: Does not play nice wth linux.

Other Thoughts: Tried several 11.04 distros, they will not install. Ubuntu 10.04 installed but does not recognize the drive afterwards. Someone came up with a patch awhile ago but its never made it into distributed kernels.

4 out of 5 eggsLarge tray front

Pros: works with linux (have not tried blue-ray disks, just dvd and cd)

Cons: Tray front covers the whole top half of the face of the drive, so your case cannot have a bezel that overlaps the front of the drive face at all. My Dell Optiplex 760 will need some plastic on the trim removed. So check your case first.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's Blu-Ray!

Pros: It's cheap, it works, its sata powered.
Comes with a silver panel so that you can make it match your case!
Plugged it in and it worked like a charm.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: This and my video card came with PowerDVD. Installed the non-Blu-Ray version (v3.0) first from the card bundle and couldn't figure out why the video sucked. Fixed that issue quickly though. v7.3 after the update supports 1080i!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap, comes in a retail box with manual, sata cable grey faceplate and software. Works as expected.

Cons: None so far. Now it's only $79 CAD. I paid $89 last week.

Other Thoughts: I used it to build my HTPC. Installation was easy, the grey faceplate matched perfectly my Antec NSK2480 case.

I'm using Vista Ultimate x86. I didn't even bother with the bundled software since I already have Arcsoft Total Media Theater 3.

If you have the horse power to play Blue Ray movies, this will work beautifully.

4 out of 5 eggsSo Far....Nice

Pros: Running in Windows 7 RC 64bit. No installation problems with hardware or software. Great video on my Sanyo 37" LCD TV using the HDMI connection. Plays without stutters or audio sync prolems.

Cons: One minor con, the square eject button is flush with the right side of the bezel so on my case with a drive drawer cover, the doors button doesn't hit the drives button. Nothing a better case wont fix.

Other Thoughts: I installed this on a system I built for my living room.
Running Windows 7 RC 64-bit
Asus MB M3A78-EM using the onbaord hdmi video
AMD 7750 Kuma processor
4GB (2x2GB) OCZ Fatal1ty DDR1066

4 out of 5 eggsOwned it eight months

Pros: After 8 months, still works as it should. Perfect video playback with an AMD64 X2 4400, 2GB RAM, geForce 9800 w/ 512MB VRAM.

Cons: I wouldn't recommend any Blu-Ray drive for a serious home theater setup. The security issues with HD video and sound make it expensive (if at all possible) to get all the Blu-Ray goodness from your discs. In my case, I had a perfect picture, absolutely flawless on a 42" LCD TV at 1080p, but I couldn't get the lossless audio. Turns out, on top of everything being HDCP compatible, you need an approved protected audio path. This means a new sound card, and not many support this (I've found one - and only one - that may work).

Other Thoughts: Stick to standalone players or the PS3 for watching true HD movies. My drive is getting packed away in its box, since I have no further use for it.

1 out of 5 eggsUPDATE AFTER 6 MONTHS OF USE

Pros: When the computer recognizes the drive it works well

Cons: Recently the drive is not being recognized by computer every time the computer boots. It will not boot from this drive.

Other Thoughts: I have been contemplating the purchase of a PLEXTOR Black 6X BD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA Internal Blu-Ray DVD Combo Super Multi Drive Model PX-B310SA SW on the Newegg site.

Pros: Work great while working. Extra brezel.

Cons: Noisy when watching regular disc, broken for no reason while only use for a few time.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: Been using this for several months and it works great! It plays anything I can stick in there. Blu-Ray looks GREAT!

Cons: None concerning the hardware. The bundled Blu-Ray playback software (PowerDVD 7.3) is a little flaky (even with the latest updates), but the drive itself is a solid performer.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because it was the cheapest available way to play Blu-Ray discs at the time. I was pleasantly surprised at how solid it performs. The drive is great. I would have given it a 5 rating if it the playback software was better....
