The Lite-On 20X Super Allwrite IDE drive writes 4.7GB of data in about 5 and a half minutes to DVD+R, and supports all DVD formats. Its okay
- Pros: Price, Windows XP recognized the drive on initial boot and it worked. Ordered it Wednesday morning and received it on Friday (good job Newegg)
- Cons: Lite-On web support is poor - FAQ section has little on DVD burners (mostly CD burners) and if you have a problem "send us an email and we will reply in 2-3 days". No manual to download for this product, only a driver if you need it and a couple utilities.
- Other Thoughts: Its OEM so all you get is the burner. It came in a shipping box wrapped in bubble wrap, not even any mounting screws. Not a problem to me but just to let you know.
I burned 24 DVDs so far with this device, all 4.2 to 4.699 GB. Three disks wouldn't burn because of "media error", one burned 40% the other two burned 90% before being rejected. Two indicated successful burn but couldn't be read after burn completed.
My first experience with DVD burner so don't know how this compares to other units, 20% failure rate seems high though. Have had a Lite-On CD burner for about 3 years and it never fails unless I try to write to a badly scratched CD. Its the reason I bought the Lite-On DVD burner.
Good buy
- Pros: For the price, it's awesome. Reads pretty fast.
- Cons: Kind of noisy, but only when a disc is being read. Not distracting, but louder than some drives.
- Other Thoughts: Good buy!

works great, good price
- Pros: fast, inexpensive drive. Simple to install, automatically recognized by Windows XP, Vista, Linux 2.6 kernel

- Pros: Burns Fast and reliable. i have burned 100+ movies and cd's with no issues at all. Would buy the same one again if i have any future issues with it.
