5 out of 5 eggsloved it, no problems since I have bought it

Pros: very fast, works great burns quickly

Cons: Short cords, if the USB cord was longer and the power cord. Maybe it would be a little easier sit it anywhere or more mobile

5 out of 5 eggsIt's an external DVD drive, what more do you want?

Pros: Handy external DVD drive.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I bought this as a portable external drive solution for servers that don't have a built-in optical media drive. I briefly tested it under Windows XP, Debian Linux "lenny", and MacOS X 10.5 and it was able to mount and read a DVD. MacOS X system profiler indicates write support. I didn't actually burn a disc to test it on any platform. Successfully tested as a boot device on a MSI K8MM3-V (K8 754) board. If the drive ever dies I figure I'll just replace it; buying this was cheaper than getting an external case for an existing drive. I just bought it, but so far my first impressions are good.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent product will have to see how support is...

Pros: The drive looks great and is quiet running. Fast speed and I love the lightscribe.

Cons: I have had this drive for 5 months, and in the last 2 months it has shattered 2 discs.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well but

Pros: Lite on quality. Light weight , small dimension and seems durable.

Cons: The Nero 7 that came with this and its update does not work at all with Vista x64. I could have download MonkeyMedia free from the internet and used that as the software to burn CDs on this Liteon or my holder device.

Other Thoughts: $54 is a good price for this drive alone even though I decided I didn't want to use the Nero 7 that it came with. Even after thinking I buy this drive just to get a software that would work with Vista x64

1 out of 5 eggsincompatible with macintosh osx 10.5

Pros: nice looking, comes in two color schemes (black on white, white on black). liteon normally makes decent drives. works with freebsd.

Cons: absolutely useless under osx. is currently down (support site listed on documentation).

Other Thoughts: this is the first (and second, i got both b/w and w/b units) external dvd writer i've tried that did not work with my mac. i've used all sorts of brands (and off-brands) without any problem, so i'm assuming something in the usb interface or internal atapi/sata chipset is nonstandard.

their internal devices normally work fine with linux/bsd. us.liteonit is alive, and after looking at their faq it is apparent that they don't care about anyone not using windows. their loss.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: I've only had this thing for a couple days now, but I havn't had a single problem with it. It prints beautifully and with great detail.

Cons: As for the software, I agree. It sucks. Personally I switched to Nero Ulti. 8. No problems. With the included software, you get by, but its a pain, and won't run on vista.
The prints can be light/incomplete but that seems to be a universal problem, not to this drive. Put them through a second burn process and it'll come out better, sometimes a third is nessicary. Use your judgement.
Also, start with Draft, and work your way up.

Other Thoughts: I read the other reviews where people complain about the noise/heat/software etc. I havn't had my drive make a lot of noise, those that think so either have a bad drive, or are paying toooo much attention to it. If it gets hot, move it to its own space. It takes too long? Do something else. If you're spending all your time on one thing at a time, you're wasting time.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat fr

Pros: Works great with a Mac Mini with OSX if you don’t like using the slot on the mini. Fast USB transfer for reading and burning CDs / DVDs.

Cons: Do not buy this product if you plan to use it on Windows Xp. There are no drivers for this product from Lite-On, and Windows cannot detect the driver 96% of the time. When I went to the Lite-On website, there was no support for this product!

Other Thoughts: I regret purchasing this drive from a company I don’t use often.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: its fast, very sturdy and well built.
have not had a single problem with it and ive owned it for about 3 months now...

Cons: the only con i see is that this thing gets HOT...
i mean you can actually smell the plastic on the cds getting burned, and not to mention that the whole drive is super hot, the tray and disk after burning a few gigs can really burn you.

its best to give it a little rest every once and while if your burning massive gbs of data at high speeds.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes What it Needs to Do

Pros: I hook it up to my laptop via USB, and it works just fine. I've recorded DVD+R's, DVD-R's, and CD's. Each of these has worked in various computers and DVD players flawlessly.

Cons: Loud... doesn't bother me but may bother others.

Somewhat slow at reading/writing... again, doesn't matter to me- it's cheap and it does the job!

Other Thoughts: I LOVE LOVE LOVE Newegg! They send an email with specials, and I buy...and buy. Can't pass up the prices and the speed of delivery.

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of money

Pros: Only works about half the time.

Cons: The lightscribe feature only completes about 1 of 4 disks that you scribe. The rest it leaves a big smudge all over the face of your dvd. The unit often will not even recognize the cd/dvd inserted.

Other Thoughts: Very disappointed in the product. I am sending it back and I will never buy a liteon writer again. I hope you dont buy this unit or you will be very frustrated with it.
