1 out of 5 eggsNo wonder they don't sell anymore of these

Pros: Good for making coasters.

Cons: Many burn fails, lightscribe function never worked, Extended Replacement Warranty is a joke, as they will not replace it and return less money than it cost to get,

Other Thoughts: Don't expect a replacement from a Replacement Warranty.

1 out of 5 eggsOwned Less than a year, VERY light use. No longer works.

Pros: Easy to setup. Worked well for the first 6 or 7 uses (over the course of 6 months)

Cons: Writing data to the disc causes it to just go to sleep. I've tried multiple recording software, and multiple brands of media. In the end it will pick a random spot during the recording process and just quit. The lights continue to flash, but nothing happens.

1 out of 5 eggsWont burn disks on the macbook pro

Pros: never found any

Cons: Would not burn disks on my MacBook pro in either Mac OS or Windows 8. Both result in drive communication errors. Checked the cables and connections. I plugged this to a desktop dell running windows 8 and it burned disks fine, but to the MacBook, no joy! Returning it.

5 out of 5 eggsBEST BANG 4 THE BUCK

Pros: It works great on my new 2012 mac book pro+ retina an cost way less the other few other models that actually work on the mac book.

Cons: I bought a longer cable to replace the very short cable but my new cable did not work. Next I will try a a usb 3 extention cable, but in the long run a short cable is a small price to pay for such a great unit.

Other Thoughts: somewhat loud.

1 out of 5 eggsMaybe It's Just Me!

Pros: Very nice looking unit.

Cons: Is not recognized by an older XP Pro machine or my new Win 7 Pro machine. Rather than spend endless hours tinkering with a device that should just work perfectly out of the box, I can save a ton of headache and frustration by tossing it in the trash! That's exactly what I'm going to do. I don't have time to mess with stuff that is supposed to be a no-brainer.

Other Thoughts: My Phillips dvd burner has worked great for several years now. Shoulda just bought another one!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Drive

Pros: Very fast drive, compared to my internal sony slot loading dvd drive. I can normally copy a dvd in about 10 mins, sometimes a bit longer but always faster than my older drive.. Comes with great software for Lightscribe.

Cons: Usb 3.0 cable is very short. maybe a foot long.

3 out of 5 eggsSlooow Writer

Pros: It does work.

Cons: I have an unnamed Blu-ray writer.
It writes to a BD-RE at 4.5 MB/S.
This model writes to a BD-RE at 1.5 MB/S.
I have not tried any other media. Thus 3 is the best I
can give the unit.

Other Thoughts: I have SATA II. That is not an excuse for this unit.
It uses whatever drivers are supplied with Win 7.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well ... but has USB 3.0 cable issues

Pros: Has handled everything I tried to use it for without issue.

Cons: The included cable is short (16") AND other USB cables do not fit in the type B port on the back of the unit correctly.

Other Thoughts: WARNING. 3rd party USB cables do not seem to work on this unit. The cable that comes with the unit fits properly in the unit's type B port, however, other USB cables I tried (and I tried 2 different ones) do not fit correcty in the port. There is a 1/8" flange around the port that blocks other cables from making a complete connection (as in the flange prevents the plug from inserting the last 1/8 of an inch). This renders 3rd party cables useless, and creates a big headache for people who need to replace the cable with a longer one (which--given the length of the supplied cable--will be MANY people, including myself). The solution is to buy an extended cable, so you can plug the included cable into the unit (as it's the only one that fits it seems) and then extend it to your computer.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for multiple computers

Pros: Drive is great as it allows me to use blue ray on my desktop and laptop. Computer recognized it right away. No problem with the noise level

Cons: Cable is rather short but long enough for my set up
