5 out of 5 eggsCheap, oem drive

Pros: Does what it says on the can

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: Who uses these drives these days! Just stuck one in a basic build for my nephew as a 'just in case' scenario'. Works well, little noisy when spinning up at full speed but no deal breaker.

5 out of 5 eggslite on dvd burner

Pros: used about ten of this model, and hundreds of other lite on drives. optical drives all suck, this one is no better : or no worse. I have had good luck with these as far as no problems. burns fine. cheap cost.

Cons: optical drives all have cons. even the best are slow.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the job at a good price.

Pros: It works. It didn't cost much.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive for a new build and so far it has worked flawlessly. At this price point all you're getting is a bare drive so don't expect cables or software and you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Impressed

Pros: Works well like all Optical Drives should.
Read and Write speeds are satisfactory.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I'm extremely impressed with Newegg's service.
I ordered this drive for 14 dollars (free shipping) but the packaging was done like I ordered a 100 dollar glass vase online, it was wrapped with bubble bags wrap and this cool slip in bubble protection mechanism. The shipment was also very prompt.
Thanks Newegg, will be buying more from you guys!

4 out of 5 eggsSounds Like A Plane Taking Off

Pros: This burner is fast and seems to make reliable burns. How long it will last is anyone's guess. But speed isn't everything.

Cons: One of the four that I bought was going into a machine I am putting together for my young granddaughters, which they will probably be watching movies on.

This drive will NOT be in their machine. It is WAY too loud when a movie is playing. I have been putting machines together since 1991, and I have NEVER heard a drive as loud as these things are when playing movies.

Imagine sitting on a plane as it is just flying along and you constantly hear the drone of the engines. That's this drive.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice to know who makes the various drives. It doesn't matter whose name is on them anymore, it is a chore to find Firmware updates.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Low cost

Cons: After reading other product reviews I was surprised to receive a defective product. The drive seems to hang up in an error retry mode for long periods of time when I attempt to play DVDs. Windows logs show long streams of 'Block Read Error' messages. The same interface and cables work fine with a LG drive that I had lying around so that pretty much leaves this the Lite-On as the problem.

I have used Lite-On DVD drives in the past and have had quality control issues with some of them as well. One arrived with the SATA connector cable loose inside the case. This was just a matter of opening the case and reattaching the cable but obviously it could have never been tested in that condition.

The insult to it all is that you have to pay to return a defective component to NewEgg. In the 15+ years I have been buying from NewEgg and although it rarely happens, this remains the biggest irritant with this otherwise excellent company.
