1 out of 5 eggsSlimline Power Cable Not Included

Pros: None as of yet

Cons: The required slimline SATA power cable is not included. Standard cables do not work. So you will have to buy an adapter.

3 out of 5 eggsFix for "Won't Load Discs!"

Pros: Reads discs, when you don't tighten it down too snugly in a chassis.

Cons: If you install it into a too tight/stiff slot or chassis, it does not load discs.

Other Thoughts: To fix the issue with not loading discs, loosen or bend out your chassis slightly, as this drive needs to "flex" a bit in order to properly load discs. Most notebook bays allow the sides to flex properly, but if you install it into a typical desktop case, you'll need to make sure it has a bit of "wiggle" on the sides, or it will fail to load discs.

Ridiculous, isn't it?

1 out of 5 eggsProblem With this device

Pros: Fast Loading*, Quiet

*See Below:

Cons: This device needs to be able to flex in its installation. The problams people are having with this device not loading is that when installed in a laptop or a desktp that holds the drive securely, the slot loading mechanism will not work properly. This is the second drive I have had. The first I sent back right away as it would not load. I've been playing with the second one, and it works outside the case, but mount in in the desktop case and it refuses to load media. Outside the case you can see the drive housing flex as a CD/DVD/BD loads. This is faulty design.

1 out of 5 eggsStill avoid at all cost

Pros: Arrived after an extended RMA period.

Cons: Unit would not load a DVD. No apparent physical damage so I'm not sure why DVDs won't load. Will have to RMA this unit.

Other Thoughts: Will publish another review after I get my 3rd unit.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid at all cost

Pros: Looks like it would be a great drive for a compact multimedia PC.

Cons: Arrived and bezel, or unit, appeared bent. Unit will not load a DVD.

Other Thoughts: If you order this be aware this unit is a slot load. Sony makes another unit that is a tray load unit. I believe the tray load is a simpler mechanism and you'll have a better chance of it working.

Also be award this unit requires a special cable. Make sure you get Newegg #N82E16812270183 or equivalent.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent drive

Pros: Slim line, Sata, quick load/unload mechanism, fits many laptops, backward compatible, BR discs are gorgeous on laptop screens

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: For on the go BR movie watching/media discs, this drive can't be beat. In addition, top of the line DVDRW/CDRW performance. Sony is known for their top tier drives, and this one doesn't disappoint.
