5 out of 5 eggsReally Happy with it

Pros: Reliable.
most formats supported
never had a problem

Cons: It was time to give it away, after 4 years, but the unit still kicks.... you get the point

Other Thoughts: interesting that this unit actually allowed me to install a game that a newer one did not, idk what ever happened there, but I simply loved it.

1 out of 5 eggsSTAY AWAY

Pros: Worked fine for six months.

Cons: Although covered by Sony 1 Year warranty, I was unable to return it. Contacted Sony via phone as e-mail support was nowhere to be found. Talked to 6 people in a span of 3 days, was given 5 different numbers...no one knew what to tell me or even what the product was. iT IS AN INEXPENSIVE ITEM, BUT THERE WAS A PRINCIPLE INVOLVED. THE ITEM WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY SHOULD HAVE REPLACED IT. i purchased a new drive (NOT SONY) BUY WITH CAUTION...BETTER YET, DON'T BUY.

1 out of 5 eggsreason they're discontinued

Pros: burned DVDs. read DVDs.

Cons: WAS loud, slow to start, only 1 color LED so you couldnt tell if it was reading or writing just by looking, has big lightscribe logo on front, doesnt last. now discontinued by Sony and they offer no more support.

Other Thoughts: a little over a year, which seems to be when the self-destruct function implements, this thing started giving "Power Calibration area is full" errors and ruining blank discs when attempting to write. i am seeing the same type errors all over the web with these and everyone says it happened a little over a year.
will never be purchasing Sony again unless some support gets offered and i was denied on their support site because it's now considered a "end-of-life" product.

1 out of 5 eggsdrive door wont open after a month

Pros: worked good for about a month, decent price

Cons: from day 1 the drive eject door / tray seemed to struggle to open. It was worse without a disk in the drive. Within a month it wouldn't open without the help of a paper clip.

Other Thoughts: I have a stack of old early 90's to 2000's cd-rom drives, no matter how beat or old they are, they still open. This is the 2nd Sony / Lite-on drive that has done the same thing, not opening.

I suffered with this drive, opening with paper clip until one day after I got it open, it tried to close on my disk.... so I yanked the drive tray right out of it.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the money

Pros: None

Cons: Poor built quality, can't write after a year or so.

Other Thoughts: Glad to see this drive is out of market. Very poor quality, after installed for just about one year. It no longer writes. Had to replace it with an Asus DVD drive.

1 out of 5 eggsNever Used it I believe

Pros: It was cheap

Cons: Did not use it for a while but was plugged in but when i wanted to use it, it was messed up

Other Thoughts: I found it never worked. I had another one so I guess I never noticed but now my 1 year is over so can't get a replacement :(.

3 out of 5 eggsWorth exactly how much it was sold for

Pros: While works, works.

Cons: One is dead in less than 9 months (stopped recognizing any media whatsoever), the other (bought the same day, just unpacked) works, but sounds like a jet engine.

Other Thoughts: It was a good idea to buy two and have one laying in the drawer just in case.

3 out of 5 eggsCan't recognize as a writable device

Pros: Functional properly after installation for about a year. Reasonably priced at the time of purchase.

Cons: No long recognized as a writable device by some application software even it still burns DVD/CDs at much lower speed, 4X on burning DVD, instead of 8X when it was first installed.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Drive

Pros: Great price
Standard quality
No problems

Cons: Slight door opening delay

Other Thoughts: Does it's job. I didn't notice any ridiculous noise level using this. Not incredibly fast, but it was like $15 bucks.
