5 out of 5 eggsDropped

Pros: Speed is way better then they say. burns in half the time my HP burners do, i stand by HP also and usually suggest them but this is far superior.

Cons: Annoys you cause it burns so fast and requires another burn process.

Other Thoughts: I burn from drive to drive and pared 2 SONY drives up to see the difference it was like going for a wheel mouse to a laser pointer. Great drive reads writes in half the time the others take. Gives you more time to do other stuff. I was just WOW'ed by the 2 SONY drivers I bought. Good work SONY impressing me even more.

4 out of 5 eggsAusterity from Sony

Pros: Works when plugged in and when replacing old optical drive with installed software.

Cons: Bare drive, no cables, screws, instructions, applications, not a single piece of paper from Sony.

Other Thoughts: When it fails and it will, it's not worth the shipping cost for a warranty. There are only two types of optical disks, dead and very soon to be dead.

1 out of 5 eggsRMA It

Pros: It's Beige!

Cons: Not only didn't it work, it takes the entire SATA bus down so the PC won't even boot.

Other Thoughts: Should have read the reviews.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Performance

Pros: Easy to install.

Cons: Fails to burn perfectly good blank discs, and mechanically it is buggy. Pushing on the loading button produces haphazard results...tray slides in and out repeatedly until button is pushed and held again. When it DOES accept a blank disc it almost invariably fails to burn the selected material properly on the blank disc. This situation occured only about a month after installing the burner. I've tried "uninstalling" the burner and then having Windows re-load the latest driver, and this has not helped a bit. Once the ASUS burner arrives that I just ordered I'm going to install it in place of the Sony, and toss that one in the trash.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps this is just a fluke "lemon" burner that I received, and all the other reviews that praise it are right. But, I'm done with this burner and am ordering another of a different brand that I know has worked well for years in my present pc.

5 out of 5 eggswhite and works

Pros: works

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The only reason I buy this one is because it is white (although not pure white). Looks the only choice now

1 out of 5 eggscompletely useless

Pros: It basically matches the case color

Cons: It fails to read nearly every disc I try in it, including commercial audio CDs, commercial DVD movies as well as burned media, generally hanging the machine when attempting to do so, especially trying to shutdown Windows 7 if a disc is in the drive at the time.

Other Thoughts: Why does the entire product have to be different so the faceplate matches the color of the case? I have a black Sony SATA DVD rewriter which works great and has always done. But this thing which is supposed to meet the same requirements sucks, and I'm not the first to have these problems.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: I was very happy when I saw that there was still a beige SATA DVD burner drive still available. To me, a flashy case isn't that important at all and I like the old beige ones. It isn't too terribly loud

Cons: Not the exact color as my old case ;)

Other Thoughts: I love Sony products, judging by the other reviews though I guess it's hit or miss

5 out of 5 eggsGood DVD Drive

Pros: Beige. Only beige SATA drive out there. Did I mention it's beige? Oh, and it performs great.

Cons: Doesn't make breakfast or do windows...

Other Thoughts: At least Sony recognizes that some people still have beige cases...
