5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: the best disk drive I've ever used, basically silent, barely any heat generation and fast.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: duct tape to attach to the bottom of the bay area and im one of many to encounter the windows Blu-ray wall (the one where windows won't work with Blu-ray movies natively like dvds and their fancy open licenses)

5 out of 5 eggsgreat device, too bad it has been discontinued on newegg

Pros: bluray AND slot loaded? this is a very hard combination to find

Cons: slow burn speeds but what do you expect from a slim ODD

Other Thoughts: Its too bad this has been discontinued by newegg. It fulfilled my application which required a slim slot loaded bluray device

1 out of 5 eggsDo not purchase

Pros: It works

Cons: The drive is extremely noisy making it unsuitable for use in a home theater PC. It also does not come in any packaging, nor does it come with any documentation (not really needed, of course) and doesn't come with any SATA/slimline SATA adapters.

Other Thoughts: Buy a different drive.

1 out of 5 eggsThink twice before buying Sony

Pros: before I begin I want to be honest and tell you that I do not own this particular drive, however I do have a Sony Optiarc BD-Rom, DVD burner in my Dell Precision Laptop that was new 3 years ago. So if you want to know why I am taking the time to write this review please read my comments in the CONs section.

Cons: I will never purchase anything made my Sony again, The newest firmware update for my BD drive was dated back in 2008, none of the newer commercial BD movies will play in my drive without using AnyDVD/HD (this is a driver that unencrypts DVD and Blueray encryption on the fly) Buy any other brand if you expect to have the firmware updated.

1 out of 5 eggsNice Product... if it worked

Pros: Slimline bluray drive

Cons: Came in completely terrible packaging. Literally a plastic sleeve. No instruction manuals or cables. Once installed, the drive would just make a clicking sound and not accept a disc. Normally when you stick a disc into a slot-loading drive, the drive will grab the disc and pull it in. This drive wouldn't even recognize a disc going in.

Complete waste of my time and money. Now I have to go through the hassle of refunding the item which may be subject to a restocking fee.

Other Thoughts: The cons pretty much summed it up...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat BD Drive-Combo

Pros: Affordable & relatively quiet. Easy to operate but requires additional software to playback Blu Ray discs.

Cons: It doesn't fit 100% with the frame of my Dell Studio XPS 16. There is about a 5mm gap between the drive and the slot in the frame. Even though there is a small gap, it still works.

Additional software ($50+) required. I'm using PowerDVD 12 Ultimate ($85).

Other Thoughts: Installation difficulty will depend on the make/model of the computer you will be installing it in. It took me about 30-45 minutes to install/reassemble my Dell Studio XPS 16 (laptop).

Shipping & handling from Newegg was fast!

1 out of 5 eggsSlot loading mechanical failure

Pros: Neat looking.

Cons: Slot loading mechanical failure on first use. Spits out any disc you give it with a clicking sound.

Package came without any accessories or manuals. (lack of slimline sata power cable, you have to find and buy yourself)

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my desktop PC with a slim drive 5.25" adapter. I like slot loading slick looking drive.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Works as intended
- Seek time doesn't seem that long, even though slim drives usually take much longer to spin up
- Slot-load mechanism works extremely well
- Quiet when media is being read

Cons: - Pricey
- Eject/Insert mechanism is loud.
- Requires you to almost completely push the disc in before it "grabs" it, however, it ejects quite far out.
- REQUIRES NewEgg item# N82E16812186155 for usage in a desktop. Laptop's require no adapter.

Other Thoughts: - Have yet to try reading BluRays.
- Have yet to try burning media.
- Using in a Silverstone Fortress FT03 case.

4 out of 5 eggscompetent

Pros: Quiet, Quiet, worked well, with no fuss.

Cons: Construction is fairly flimsy. remove the bezel and the unit feels like it would fall apart.
The second problem is no fault of the unit: the initial picture i saw had the eject button on the left facing the user. I did not check for that detail at the time of purchase. The eject button does not work with most HTPC case requiring a slot load optical drive.

4 out of 5 eggschoice was limited

Pros: It works as well as my other Blu Ray drives

Cons: price, very spendy since there isn't much for competition with slot load Blu Ray drives

Other Thoughts: My small form factor case I purchased this drive for only allows for a slim slot load dive so my choices were limited since I wanted one able to read Blu Ray discs. Don't forget, if you're using this on a PC with a standard power supply you'll need to make sure you have a slim sata power connector. Newegg sells the adapters for ~ $5

I actually bought this from Newegg but I purchased it as an open box, I assume it was a return but it looks as if it were new.
