The Pioneer DVR-212D DVD/CD Writer supports 18x write speed on DVD-R/+R media, and 10x speed on DVD-R/+R dual/double layer media. This SATA-interface drive features a 2 MB buffer; Quiet Drive Technology, which reduces the noise level of audio and video playback, and increases write quality by adjusting write speed according to media type; buffer under-run protection, to ensure that you're burning usable media, not coasters.

Pioneer's Liquid Crystal Tilt/Blur Compensator adjusts automatically for play and recording on warped disc surfaces. In dual-layer format, a single DVD will hold 8.5 GB of data.

The drive supports Windows 2000, ME, XP, and Vista. And you'll have the flexibility to choose the right media type for your project, ensure compatibility with your playback unit, and the tools to express your creativity, easily.

Pros: Have used Pioneer writer before and they worked great, and so go on using Pioneer.

Cons: Newegg send me a black front panel (DVR-212DBK) instead of white (DVR-212D) which I ordered.

Other Thoughts: Mainly buy this for a new setup which I use SATA solely in the box. installation in XP SP2 is easy. If newegg have sent me the right color, i would have been super happy.

good drive

Pros: Drive works great, burn DVDs fast. Tested fine in Ubuntu 7.10 and Windows XP.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've always had good luck with pioneer drives, I'm glad they offer a beige version to go with my oldschool beige computer case. Previous reviewer discouraged me saying doesn't work in Linux, but working perfectly in Ubuntu 7.10 with zero configuration.

Sweet drive

Pros: Media scans of the verbatim discs I have reveal that I can burn at 16 speed without any or very few errors. My older lite on can only burn discs at 12 speed without read errors. A more perfect disc results in fewer attempts to read bad block so data or areas where the die hasn't been written to properly.

Other Thoughts: Buy it. Try it. It is only 30 dollars.

Pros: Works with 64 bit Vista Home Premium .Loaded Vista on new install with Gigabyte DS3R . No additional drivers were required .So far , very satisfied

Pros: It works just fine

Cons: It will only burn a good number of brands of 16x media at 12x (as of FW 1.22). See the media guide at Pioneer's site.
