The Pioneer DVR-115DBK DVD/CD Writer supports 20X write speed on DVD-R/+R media, and 10X speed on DVD-R/+R dual/double layer media. In dual-layer format, a single DVD will hold 8.5 GB of data. This IDE-interface drive gives you reliable writing with a 2 MB buffer, buffer under-run protection, and automatic adjustment of write speed according to media type to ensure that you're burning useable media, not coasters.

Pioneer's Liquid Crystal Tilt/Blur Compensator adjusts automatically for recording on and playback from warped disc surfaces. Pioneer thought of everything you'll need to make the most out of your disc-based media!

Pros: Actually spins down to 1x to play DVDs and CDs and speads up only when it needs to and only as much as it has to to match the data demand. DEAD SILENT when it needs to be, and even relatively quiet at full blast. Impressive rip speeds to boot.

Cons: Burns at 20x but only reads at 16x? This was a replacement for another Pioneer that died after less than one year.

Other Thoughts: Tried two other brand drives in the interum before going back to this Pioneer, which is largely identical except 20x vice 16x write speed. The other brands are fine for normal PC use, but they are noisy for actually playing a movie or a CD because they always want to spin at half or, worse yet, full speed. Hopefully this one will last longer than it's predecessor.

Pros: Great burner. was able to burn everything at 16x with good playback quality. even was able to do 360 backups with ease with Memorex DL discs.

Cons: um... it was replacing a dying Pioneer DVR-109?

Other Thoughts: yes the previous Pioneer died on me but it took a bunch of abuses from me. that's why i am staying with Pioneer.

Pros: Burns really fast on regular cds and dvd discs.

Cons: Has very hard time reading copies now wont work at all I've only had this for 8 months.

Other Thoughts: I have an LG and I've had it for a couple of years and it works great. I'm going to send this back for a replacement hope the new one works better.

Pros: Fast, quiet and seems to have high compatibility with various media.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I love the fact that there is no white silkscreened text on the front bezel; it's solid black so it looks great in a black case.
