Pros: Cheap, got it when it first came out with free shipping
burns anything that you throw at it

Cons: nothing really, i get a random coaster but i think its the media

Other Thoughts: i dont see how people cant burn with this
dvd+r, never had a problem
dvd-r, never had a problem
dvd+r DL, this drive is mr.awesome, with verbatim Singapore dye. i have burnt over 100+ with this drive and its going stong with great burns, auto bitsetting is a plus for DL but a minus for dvd single layer but dvds are so cheap who cares stilll a new drive so the updates can only get better its a win win

5 out of 5 eggsGood basic drive

Pros: Fast enough and the tray movement is nice and smooth. Quiet as well.

Cons: I remember when even the OEM drives came with some software but I guess that just isn't economically viable anymore. You can find freeware to do more advanced burning, and Vista with Media Center takes care of any playback tasks.

Other Thoughts: This one gets the job done if you don't mind running an IDE cable inside your case.

5 out of 5 eggsPioneer has always been best!

Pros: Don't let the lack of SATA interface discourage you. This is the best burner I've owned. I've owned Samsung, Sony, Lite-On, burners and none compare to the performance of the Pioneer ones. Also, if you want to backup PS2, 360, PC games, Movies, etc., always go with the Pioneer burners. They have the lowest failure rates.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: Use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media for the best burns.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed

Pros: No problems with CD's or DVD's (single layer).

Cons: DVD+r DL's have issues. It appears that if you try to lower the speed in ImgBurn/Nero to something like 2.4x, you get power calibration errors. I just burned 3 discs in a row at AWS speed in ImgBurn and it worked, then the next 2 attempts, it failed at different parts. Ran a lens cleaner on it and it's working again.

This is using 8x Verbatim's. I like to burn slower to make sure it's good burns for xbox and stuff, but it seems I can't do that with this burner. I could with my old LG, but it all of a sudden decided to stop recognizing DL's.

Other Thoughts: I thought for weeks that this thing just didn't work with DL's until I went back and maxed out the speed and noticed so far it's working. IMO, this should not be an issue and I find it disappointing.

So my final opinion if it is that it's picky and the lens is sensitive. Keep a lens cleaner nearby if you burn alot with it as it might help if you start to get failures.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Ok, so I think the guy below makes a good point. I dont think this particular burner has not been out for more than a month tops. I bought it within a week of it debuting here on newegg and I know I have not had it for more than a month. So dunno what the guy who says he's had it for 3 months is referring to, maybe the Pioneer drive 116dbk, but that drive and Pioneer in general has always had a very good reputation which is why I bought this when it was new with no reviews cause I've always heard Pioneer IDE drives were extremely reliable. Mine has been really great, I made a good 20 dvd burns on the first day and no problems.

Cons: UPS put a dent the size of half the box into the package and surprisingly the drive still worked but I'm very uneasy about how long it will last for considering how bad the box was damaged. I'm also a bit disappointed in Newegg, because the packaging was less than steller, in fact a lot of stuff I've been getting has been packaged rather strangely. Like with a bunch of packing peanut filling up the whole box but the item is on the bottom of the box so that the item has one side that is completely unprotected, just the thin cardboard of the box as protection!!!

Other Thoughts: Well, for now the burner works.

5 out of 5 eggsWatch your reviews

Pros: Make sure you're reviewing the right product. One reviewer refers to using this for 3 months. This has only been out about 3 weeks tops. This is why NO newegg review can be trusted. Because the majority of newegg reviewers don't know what their talking about.

Cons: Yeah, I shouldn't post since I don't have this product. I do own the previous model number and have no issues. I guess that makes me qualified to review this model? Newegg should either monitor these reviews or only allow users who have purchased the product to write a review.
