5 out of 5 eggsTo be revisited

Pros: It's quiet. It reads blurays, and burns dvds/cds

I've only confirmed that it'll read all of the formats, haven't burned anything nor will I probably for a long, long time.

It's the cheapest bluray player, hence my purchase and review

Cons: we'll see

Other Thoughts: It'll see very light use from me, these things are really almost an antiquity at this point. Glad it was cheap

5 out of 5 eggsworking as advertised,

Pros: worked as advertised, had no issues with it. Bluray playback was great, certainly much better than my older sony pc bluray drive

Cons: Not sure of all the issues that other reviewers have mentioned, it kind of made me think twice about ordering it, but have no issues so far, so good

Other Thoughts: so far so good

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost everything done right

Pros: I've been using one of these drives for over a year now, and I have yet to have any issues playing any DVD or Blu-Ray discs or ripping my collection to my media server. On the rare occasion that I have need to burn a CD-R or DVD-R. it has performed without issue. Regardless of the task, the noise level from the drive is also reasonable.

Cons: The one issue I have with this drive is that isn't a good choice for ripping standard audio CDs. It does not properly report C2 errors, and the result is that software like EAC is unable to have the drive reread and possibly correct incorrect data that results in audio glitches.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive (admittedly from another site, shame on me) in August 2013. I've used it extensively since then and have been very happy with it.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Disappointing

Pros: It takes the disc and you can look at the files.

Cons: Autoplay isn't working. I can't play any of my movies or play any of my cd's. I got this with the intent so that I could play blu-ray videos as well but now I can't even play regular dvd files or cd files.

Other Thoughts: Very unfortunate that I cannot send this back since I've had it longer than 30 days. I've also tried using my old drive and it works fine. I was able to play my cd's and dvd's with it. I also used a separate computer that also worked. Tried to look for a solution on the Internet and couldn't find anything.

1 out of 5 eggsOh what do you know..

Pros: Worked (somewhat) for a few months when I first bought it. That's it. Never watched a single bluray on it.

Cons: Everything. The drive from the getgo was much, much slower at burning any CD/DVD media than my previous DVD burner. I thought maybe it had to do with bluray being with it. Anyways I didn't have to use it so I left it unhooked when I swapped cases. Just a few weeks after the warranty was up... I had to use the drive and what do you know.. 9 minutes left on a dual layer and the drive is completely frozen up. Worthless and a waste of $50. Very regretful, oh well.

Other Thoughts: Go with LG instead

3 out of 5 eggsBig

Pros: Performance specs are ok. Drive works ok. Hasn't made any coasters.

Cons: Drive is very long. I got it for a small case, media center but the drive is 7" long and hence too big for the case. The depth was not in the specification so I did not know to be concerned about that.
The LG UN12NS30 is about 4.5" long. Just remember to watch for this problem in small spaces.

5 out of 5 eggsGood enough

Pros: Consistent, decent spec, bang for buck, somewhat quiet

Cons: Might not be the highest end optical drive

Other Thoughts: Ive owned a few optical drives over the years and I think this one has lasted the longest thus far. The price at the time was pretty status quo and its a solid deal. Runs fairly quiet and hasnt given me any issues so far.

4 out of 5 eggsSimple Drive

Pros: This drive works well and is fairly quiet

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: This is a bare drive meaning no software, so for those of you expecting software you'll need to get another drive or software

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money!

Pros: Price: If you already have software, you cant beat this quiet running drive.
Fitment: It fits perfectly in my HP 1350 Envy. Button placement is identical to the stock HP burner. Windows 8.1 already had the driver in it.

Cons: The only CON I could see would be if someone bought this and expected it to come with software to watch BlueRay movies. Keep in mind this is just a naked drive for people who want to upgrade their existing system or to replace a malfunctioning drive.
