  • newegg Watch 3D movies The drive is 3D capable. All you need is 3D playback software and a 3D display system.
  • newegg Play movies faster The amount of time between inserting a movie disc, and that disc being ready has been reduced. For movies on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, the disc is ready faster when compared to the BDR-208DBK.

  • newegg Top quality writing The chassis' design maximizes disc stability and write quality by reducing warping at high speed caused by disc vibration, especially on the outer areas of the disc.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great So Far

Pros: Installed hardware windows 7 pick it up and installed driver automatic. Burn 6 discs so far at 12x and then read them all back to the hard drive to verify the data. All 6 are perfect. Could not be more happy with the Blue Ray burner. $64.99 is a steal if you need a Blue Ray Burner.

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZINGLY QUIET and FAST!

Pros: I used this to replace the original DVD-R drive in our new guest PC, a Dell Inspirion 3647 with Windows 7 x64. For some reason this PC will not backup to a USB3 flash drive (128GB) and the DVD-R drive took 3 disks to backup up my image. The C drive was about 30 GB total. I swapped out the DVD-R for this Pioneer BDR-209DBK and it was a perfect fit! I did the full backup to a single, single layer BD-R with such quiet I almost wondered if it was doing anything. There was not a bit of noise what so ever from this drive. I love it! I wished I had bought this for our HP full desktop main PC instead of the HP unit in it now that makes some noise loading and unloading the BD-R. Now obviously if I want or need to take full advantage of this drive’s abilities I will need BD-R burner software like Cyberlink’s Power2go9 for another $50. But for my needs at the moment Windows 7 will format and burn a backup image to BD-R without any problems or extra software.

Cons: Green L.E.D. and not a blue one, but in this particular PC there is a cover lid so I don't see it anyways.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works, plays and burns dvds and blu ray as expected

Pros: Price, speed at which New Egg ships i got it the next day with super saver but came on a UPS truck go figure

Cons: Works Fine Burns good plays all I give it and not a con to the drive so not going to take an egg off that's new eggs fault not Pioneers. It's the Poor way that New Egg ships in the box a little more bubble wrap or popcorn would be nice instead of a little piece of wrapping paper being electronics and pc parts are fragile .And we all know how the shipping carriers care about what they deliver THEY DONT CARE! However most New Egg customer service agents do care and are superb in the 12 yrs ive ordered from them but the warehouse people need to be a little more generious with packing material for delicate computer equipment.

Other Thoughts: Read CONS

5 out of 5 eggsNo Frills Dependable

Pros: Read (eye) and read speed are good.

Cons: it's an optical drive?

Other Thoughts: I haven't used it as a burner. I don't even have BD-r media to test it with. The only purpose I have for optical drives is to install drivers and rip media I own and put on my home server. My reasons for purchasing this drive were rather vain: I wanted to fill the 5.25" hole vacated by an old IDE drive because the new mb required a SATA connection.

So take my review with a grain of salt. It's a good reader. Given the minimal price difference between a reader and a writer, it seemed reasonable to just buy something that *could* write if it ever becomes necessary.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I only wanted one thing and one thing alone from this drive and that was to not sound like a rusty chain saw being broadcast through hundreds of megaphones.

Hyperbole aside, it is a significant improvement over my old drive. I have no complaints over it as of yet.

Cons: None as of yet.

Other Thoughts: I don't really need it for much beyond simply having an optical drive in my machine and my old drive having been IDE I ordered this one as my current motherboard no longer has an IDE port on it.

5 out of 5 eggsStable, Reliable, Quiet and Quick

Pros: I was looking for a replacement to SONY BDU-X10S which has been skipping and freezing during BD movie playback. After messing with software, CPU, and graphics, I figured I may need to replace the drive.

Aside from the fact that it simply worked with my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 setup with no additional drivers for every use I can think of, I am quite happy with the fact that the drive generally operates quicker than the SONY, (initial load, door open/close, DVD record ramp-up and finish), and that it manages to quell the vibration quite well, even on an unbalanced disc that gets buzzy in other drives. So far, this drive has been stable, reliable, quiet and quick. I can't ask for more.

Cons: None I can think of. I suppose I could nit pick on the round green LED and say it's 1990-ish.

Other Thoughts: Optical drives are commodities and any brand will do these days. But there are ones that simply works without you having to worry about the detail, and the ones that do not. This Pioneer BDR-209DBK falls under the "simply works" category. I'm not personally associated with the company, I'd advise you to pick this one over competition even if it's a few dollars more. This thing just works and your time is worth it.
