The Pioneer BDR-209DBK SATA Blu-ray burner is a great choice for a system build or upgrade, with fast writing speed and wide bland media support. It provides up to 16x maximum BD-R writing speed – the fastest on the market – and can read/write single and dual-layer BD-R discs, as well as DVD and CD formats. It's also 3D capable, so you can enjoy the latest 3D blockbusters with compatible displays. The BDR-209DBK drive also has features such as a QuickPlay which enables movies discs to be ready faster, a Noise Suppression design to minimize noise, an Anti-Dust design to increase durability, and Precision Writing Technology to minimize write errors. All these work together, assuring you of a great experience in both work and play.

  • newegg Faster burning 16x Blu-ray burner! Pioneer can now achieve up to 16x writing on BD-R media and up to 14x on BD-R Dual Layer (DL) discs.
  • newegg Watch 3D movies The drive is 3D capable. All you need is 3D playback software and a 3D display system.
  • newegg Play movies faster The amount of time between inserting a movie disc, and that disc being ready has been reduced. For movies on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, the disc is ready faster when compared to the BDR-208DBK.
  • newegg A quieter drive The tray cushion and the top cover of the BDR-209DBK has been designed to reduce disc rotation noise
  • newegg Increased life expectancy The sound barrier design that traps noise inside the drive also works to keep dust outside the drive. This makes the drive much more dust resistant, and drive failure due to dust is practically nonexistent.
  • newegg Top quality writing The chassis' design maximizes disc stability and write quality by reducing warping at high speed caused by disc vibration, especially on the outer areas of the disc.

5 out of 5 eggsSometimes more is more

Pros: More everything.

Cons: Less nothing.

Other Thoughts: A few extended (and accurate imo) reviews of this drive are available on other sites. You know engineers did their homework when burn quality scales WITH higher speed instead of against it. :)

2 out of 5 eggsWARNING!!!

Pros: Easy install wider than average plug area

Cons: will NOT work with newer multi processor machines - could not even find the drive - multi processors could see drive but could not access

Other Thoughts: took only 5 minutes to install but system would not recognize the drive - checked on older machine and worked perfectly - bad part as the older machine was going to the local grade school.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Haven't burned anything with this drive since I decided to go all digital with my movies.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat quality - Doesn't last

Pros: Good looking, Easy to install, Fast and Quite. Very good for occasional use.

Cons: Longevity. After about 4 months, the drive started to mis-read disks. I cant tell it the drive system is worn, or the laser is wearing out, but I have used it extensively. I've compared it with another Liton drive of same design that was not used, and the unused drive does not have read errors on the same disks.

Other Thoughts: Liton makes this for Poineer? Anyways, this is STILL better than Liteon's newer designs with the black bar across the bottom(see LG et.al.)

3 out of 5 eggsOk drive

Pros: Cheap blu ray drive, works good on blu rays. No problems as of today. Plays blu ray perfectly.

Cons: When formatting Blu Ray BD-RE, it doesn't do full certification, so blu rays format rather quickly. (This is a fault of Pioneer). I dropped 2 eggs for this.
