The Pioneer BDR-209DBK SATA Blu-ray burner is a great choice for a system build or upgrade, with fast writing speed and wide bland media support. It provides up to 16x maximum BD-R writing speed – the fastest on the market – and can read/write single and dual-layer BD-R discs, as well as DVD and CD formats. It's also 3D capable, so you can enjoy the latest 3D blockbusters with compatible displays. The BDR-209DBK drive also has features such as a QuickPlay which enables movies discs to be ready faster, a Noise Suppression design to minimize noise, an Anti-Dust design to increase durability, and Precision Writing Technology to minimize write errors. All these work together, assuring you of a great experience in both work and play.

  • newegg Faster burning 16x Blu-ray burner! Pioneer can now achieve up to 16x writing on BD-R media and up to 14x on BD-R Dual Layer (DL) discs.
  • newegg Watch 3D movies The drive is 3D capable. All you need is 3D playback software and a 3D display system.
  • newegg Play movies faster The amount of time between inserting a movie disc, and that disc being ready has been reduced. For movies on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, the disc is ready faster when compared to the BDR-208DBK.
  • newegg A quieter drive The tray cushion and the top cover of the BDR-209DBK has been designed to reduce disc rotation noise
  • newegg Increased life expectancy The sound barrier design that traps noise inside the drive also works to keep dust outside the drive. This makes the drive much more dust resistant, and drive failure due to dust is practically nonexistent.
  • newegg Top quality writing The chassis' design maximizes disc stability and write quality by reducing warping at high speed caused by disc vibration, especially on the outer areas of the disc.

5 out of 5 eggsPioneer Drives are Great

Pros: I have this model along with Pioneer model BDR-206DBK. Both of them will read CD, DVD, Audio CD, BD and anything that I have tried. I have had them for years and never had any problem with them. Neither model has never failed to read or burn.
If and when I may need another drive it will be a Pioneer. They are super fast and quiet.

Cons: None. I give it 5 eggs of your choice, scrambled or fried....

Other Thoughts: If you need a very good and reliable BD drive that will never fail you, Pioneer is the one to buy.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Drive

Pros: This is the third bluray drive from pioneer that I have purchased and so far everything runs like it should. Movies, DVDs, and CDs all load quick and play quiet. Also, like with most OEM Pioneer drives this has no white logos on the front, but they are still etched on the black plastic. Personally, this is always a plus for me and it looks very flush with the Corsair 200R case that I purchased to along with a new build. Rips are fairly quick on anything you do. So far very reliable !

Cons: None that I can think of !

Other Thoughts: A couple notes with this unit. It does NOT support BDXL that you can find on the retail counterpart (BDR-2209) which mean no triple or quad layer blurays. Since it is an OEM unit, you will need to supply your own SATA cable.

5 out of 5 eggsGo all the way!

Pros: Optical drives being inexpensive, BluRay/DVD/CD Read/Write Drives are a nice luxury

Cons: I'm sure I could get higher multipliers (Honestly not knowledgeable myself), but this one works just fine.

Other Thoughts: A Must-Have for high end computers!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, good condition, pretty fast. Like it.

Pros: - Blu ray burner (even though optical drives seem to be getting phased out)
- Works well
- Burns dvd/cd's
- Burned 23gb movie in approximately 12 mins + verification (though not sure if that's tied to hardware or software)
- No weird noises or anything

Cons: - Terrible cup holder? Kidding, no issues discovered.

Other Thoughts: Doesn't come with software, that should be obvious though.

5 out of 5 eggsThis drive ROCKS!!!! LG SUCKS

Pros: Firmware update available and works fines. To the poster who could not find the firmware
pioneer jp device_e product-e ibs device_e dev00001r_e.html

I have RIdata bd-r 4x - this drive burned my 22G movie in 10 minutes at speeds from 5.4 to 9.9x, using imgburn. This drive is amazing.

Ripping and burning at top speeds it is still quieter than most drives.

Also to the previous poster - This drive is NOT rip locked. I have been ripping movies for 3 days straight from bluray, single and dual layer at speeds between 4 and 9 times!!!

Cons: The LED is green and not blue not really a big deal

Other Thoughts: Had 2 previous LG drives and their firmware tool did not work, would not update, and LG could not resolve. KUDOS to Pioneer for a firmware update tool that works!!!!

1 out of 5 eggsWill not play most movies

Pros: Looks and fells like a solid product but will not work.
Very easy installation.

Cons: Will not play all movies with PDVD 15 Ultra. Pop ups keep saying this movie doesn't supports True Theater and freezes. If you turn off True Theater and try to play movie you get the same results

Other Thoughts: Not sure what to make of this. Hopefully a product rep has some insight. I looked for firmware updates but did not find any for the 209.
