The Pioneer BDR-2209 internal SATA Blu-ray burner takes PC optical storage capability to a new level. It provides up to 16x BD-R writing speed – the fastest on the market – and supports virtually the widest range of disc formats, from legacy CD and DVD to the latest BDXL media that can hold up to 128GB data on a single disc. Beyond raw performance, this unit also comes with a rich list of features for optimizing your experience, such as QuickPlay for reducing the waiting time, PowerRead for smooth DVD/Blu-ray movie playback, PureRead2 for accurate audio CD data extraction, and Auto Quiet Mode for better acoustics during operation. And with the bundled CyberLink Media Suite 10, you can watch movies, edit video clips, and write to disc right out of the box; no other software is required.

  • newegg Faster burning Up to 16x writing on BD-R single-layer discs, 14x on BD-R DL discs, and 8x writing on BD-R triple-layer discs. (15x BD-R write speed achieved using certain media.)
  • newegg Store more data Up to 156% more data storage capacity than a 50GB Dual Layer Blu-ray Disc. The BDXL format supports BDXL Blu-ray media (including 128GB Quad Layer (QL) and 100GB Triple Layer (TL) Blu-ray Disc).
  • newegg Get to your files faster With QuickPlay, the amount of time between inserting a ROM disc, and that disc being ready, has been reduced. For movies on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, the disc is ready faster when compared to previous Pioneer drives.
  • newegg Smooth movie playback Scratches, fingerprints, and other abnormalities on the surface of a disc can sometimes cause Blu-ray and DVD movie playback to stop. When a PowerRead enabled drive is not able to read through obstructed areas of a disc, it will attempt to move forward quickly to the next available data point, resulting in smoother Blu-ray and DVD movie playback. (PowerRead is not guaranteed to work with all disc conditions or under all PC environments.)
  • newegg A better music experience Scratches and fingerprints on your CDs can cause them to skip. A drive normally makes a calculated guess at the unreadable data, and attempts to correct this to match the original music. However this is not 100% accurate. PureRead, when enabled, makes the drive reread the obscured data to extract the original music as accurately as possible. (PureRead2 is not guaranteed to work with all disc conditions or under all PC environments.)
  • newegg A smarter drive Pioneer drives with Auto Quiet mode monitor how they are being used and adjust their speed automatically: high speed for data transfer, and low speed for music or movie playback. The tray cushion and the top cover of the BDR-2209 have also been designed to reduce disc rotation noise, ensuring an optimized experience for watching movies or listening to music.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Always liked Pioneer their products never failed me. I had three high priced top of the line Sony's die on me and never bought Sony for 20 years. stayed with Pioneer if they had what i wanted. This Player is a backup for my new LG WH16NS40 which I had to RMA after a couple of months of minor use. its funny because the LG returned a day before the Pioneer. They are both working like a charm.

Cons: Non for now

Other Thoughts: I wish Pioneer made more of a choice on products

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect except Blu-Ray movies

Pros: As expected one of my oem dvd burners finally failed giving me more coaster than I care to mention. Decided to purchase a Blu-ray burner and decided Pioneer would be the choice having read many of the Newegg reviews. Good news is my old Roxio Creator 10 along with other dvd utilities (DVD Decryptor and DVD Shrink) enabled me to continue making archive copies of borrowed library copies of recent movies.

Cons: Still cannot make archive copies of Blu-ray movies as it appears both DVD Decryptor and DVD Fab versions are NOT suitable for Blu-ray. Further testing will continue however I have no confidence I will succeed since both Fab and Decryptor are no longer being updated. Testing will also be conducted with generic Blu-ray blanks but Verbatim discs appear to play extremely well with this Pioneer drive.

Other Thoughts: Cyberlink Media Suite 10 provided with this retail drive is 3 releases old however once installed it does allow you to verify Blu-ray playback of movies on the pc. If this drive proves reliable (this means more than a year of use) my next Pioneer drive will be a oem version of this drive since Media Suite 10 is now in my possession from this recent retail purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Great buy! Comes with software for burning and reading blu rays. No problems thus far. Worth every penny IMO. May die one day, but almost all burners eventually do...

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Spend a little extra money and buy this drive!

5 out of 5 eggsNice product

Pros: Great price

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I saw some complaining that it does not burn blue ray movies, well there is copy protection on movies blue ray and dvd and you need a special program to do that. I don't know why they say they have high tech knowledge and don't know that.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the job it's meant for.

Pros: + Good Price to performance ratio

+ Comes bundled with Media Suite 10. It's a nice addition, especially if buying for a new build. Saves you from having to buy additional software if you don't want to be stuck using Windows Media Player for everything. Some people cite issues with Media Suite 10 and Windows 8.1, but I encountered no issues when doing my initial setup and tests.

+ I remember the days when these things sounded like jet engines. However technology is great when it works, and this drive is quiet when in use.

+ It's Pioneer, so it's a known quality name, and it does the job it was made for and it does it well.

+ The fact it's Pioneer, came bundled with Media Suite 10, had good performance for the price is really what sold me on this particular drive.

Cons: Nothing as of yet.

Other Thoughts: Aside from testing the device to make sure my SATA/Power was good, installing the OS, a few software items, and burning a few disks to make sure all was well and the device worked, I honestly haven't touched it since. I don't see myself using this outside of an urge to install an old game that's on physical media. This is just my personal feelings, but if I watch movies on my PC, it's either via streaming or already downloaded to the drive. If the very rare occasion strikes I want to watch something disk-based, I have a TV with a larger screen and player for movies. If the even rarer occasion comes that I need to burn a Blu-Ray/DVD/CD, this will do just fine. That being said, if you use an optical drive often, unless you have some really rare specific need, this drive will do more than fine, and read and write everything you'll need from old CD-ROMs to Blu-Ray.

Optical media on a PC is starting to become a thing of the past with most everything you could ever want being available via download or streaming. Speeds and read times are also less relevant as games and other content are less and less being read from a CD. I almost forgot to even buy an optical drive for my new build as I use them so rarely I even forget I had one on my old computer. I've also seen reviews citing it doesn't come with connectors, but that's not uncommon. Your motherboard when bought is going to come with all your SATA cables, and if buying as a replacement for an store-bought computer's OEM drive for example, just use the already provided cables.
