3 out of 5 eggsNot for DVD Ripping

Comments: I love Pioneer but the 120 series have known issues with DVD Ripping. If you back up your movies like I do then avoid this drive. I have the 116S and it works spectacular but not the 120's.

5 out of 5 eggs

Comments: Hate to see Pioneer get a bad rap.

If you get Macrovision or copyright errors, that's most likely a problem with the software used with the DVD player. Don't fault the player for a problem with the software.

I don't have a DVD-120 and I won't but one unless I can get it in a slot load version.
However, I DO have two DVD-106S/2, one DVD-105S/2, and one DVD-116, so I have earlier versions of both the slot-loading and tray loading players. I don't read/play DVDs very often, most of what I read are CDs, but I have never had a problem with any of my Pioneer drives. Also, the tests I have read done on the 106S suggest that it is a superior quality drive.

Besides the slot-load mechanism, my favorite feature (and why I bought the drives in the first place) is the 85/95ms average seek time which may still be just as good as it gets.

Pioneer is a great company. I hope their quality control will continue to be excellent.

5 out of 5 eggs

Comments: Perfect!!! If you want to make DVD's (ripping them to hard drive) this drive combined with the Pioneer DVR-A05U DVD -R/-RW is the way to go. I have made a lot of DVD's and so far perfect every time (no coasters) I build a lot of computers for people and I will now recommend Pioneer DVD, CD, CD R/RW, or DVD -+R/-+RW for every system I build. They may not be the fastest out there, but they are close, but they are by far the most dependable. Once again Newegg rocks!! if you buy from somewhere else your just an idiot!!

5 out of 5 eggsworks good. no quirks so far.

Comments: Purchased one of these from newegg, and 3-4 weeks later still havn't had any problem(s) with it playing DVDs using it, and reading cd-r's & rw's with it.

has been working fine with bootable CDs as well.

havn't tested this with DVD-R's, DVD-RW's yet, or any other DVD formats, besides DVD movie discs, whatever format that would be called.

also, if this matters to anyone, the box that this is installed in, runs 24/7, but the DVD-rom isn't being used *constantly*.

Comments: N/A this is not the slot load drive. This is the tray load drive. Next time post it on the right product. This is a great dvd rom drive.

1 out of 5 eggsThe Click Of Death !!!!

Comments: This is the biggest piece of XXXX I have ever owned. I can't belive how hard you need to push the CD in for it to load. Also the last two weeks this thing sounds like my old Omega Zip 100 drive with the click of death problem. Then sure enough, tonight I put a DVD movie in and crack ,crackle ,pop. I have to RMA the drive with my Good Fellas DVD stuck inside.
