Cons: Make sure not to use a Molex to SATA power cable. Doesn't want to work with my Molex to 2 SATA power adapters (That came with my ASUS motherboard)... Cons: Cannot read DVD movies (even legitimate ones) beyond roughly 4X. Apparently this is a "feature" to discourage copyright violation. This may, or may not, make this drive a completely useless brick for you. Other Thoughts: I had no idea this even existed. Apparently there are other drives where it is not a problem. Cons: It's a little noisy when installing games or transferring a lot of data, but I've never seen a DVD player that isn't. Speed makes up for it in a big way, installed windows vista in the time it took me to make pasta i was expecting it to take about an hour and was very pleased. Other Thoughts: The two fronts i guess are a plus for some people but i just threw the other one in the box and put it in my closet, no idea how changing those goes. Did you find this review helpful? Cons: Nasty habit of locking up your whole box. Other Thoughts: Bought this drive in September of '07, drive is history as of June '08. Drive would lock up on rips, file transfers, DVD playback, and if I looked at it wrong. Lock-ups would make WinXP non-resposive to restart requests. Attempted two firmware updates from ASUS to fix said problems to no avail. I love ASUS for mobos, but I'm going with Lite-On for optical drives. Did you find this review helpful? Haven't had a problem reading anything or transferring anything to my HDD, so it's been perfect for me so far. Cons: None. Other Thoughts: First of all, this drive does NOT write to CDs or DVDs if anyone was wondering; it is only a reading drive. Second, some people have professed to this being some ungodly-silent drive; in my experience this is not the case - though it isn't loud either. Cons: Can get pretty loud sometimes, for instance when ripping music, but isn't too big a deal. Biggest con is that this thing crapped out on me after 4 months. I never changed anything in my system at all and one day it's suddenly having problems playing a DVD or listening to a CD. Other Thoughts: Thanks to newegg for a fast and easy return. Cons: See "Other thoughts" Other Thoughts: This may or may not be a problem with the drive but ever since I installed it there has been a problem with me ripping music to my hard drive and watching or listening to media at the same time. The media, like internet videos likes to studder while I'm ripping an audio cd. This might be due to the small cache of the drive, but I don't know. Did you find this review helpful? It is hard to beat the features for the price. Cons: None Other Thoughts: Someday when the speed improves and price of BluRay players drops, I will probably replace this. Cons: none Other Thoughts: Had a motherboard that wouldn't recognize the second SATA port that this DVD ROM was connected to so I didn't use it for like half a year....then about two weeks ago the motherboard conked out and I replaced it and yahoo!
