The Asus DRW-2014L1T DVD burner gives you 20X speed and impressive features so you get results, not coasters! Asus brings you smooth, reliable performance, every time. FlextraSpeed recognizes your destination media and sets the write speed for best recording quality. Using the drive's 2 MB buffer, FlextraLink prevents buffer under-run, so instead of bad disc "coasters," you get usable media, every time.

The Asus AVRS (Auto Vibration Reducing System) reduces vibration and noise by adjusting the balance of the disc and spindle as it operates, whether the drive is mounted horizontally or vertically. These Asus’ technologies make minimal demand on your system resources so your PC is ready for other work during the recording process. Your time and blank discs are too valuable to waste!

LightScribe technology lets you flex your creative muscles and bid farewell to sticky, messy paper labels! With the included trial of Nero software, you'll find it easy to dress your media in custom artwork, etched directly onto the LightScribe blank. With this Asus SATA drive, you'll get the job done right the first time, every time.

5 out of 5 eggsLightscribe!

Pros: Works great and has for years. Most likely the last DVD / CD burner I will ever buy. Kinda makes me sad.

Cons: Lightscribe was kinda meh, very light and ended up being more of a gimic.

5 out of 5 eggsSTILL BURNING...ALMOST 6 YEARS LATER

Pros: This drive has performed flawlessly in 3 different builds spanning almost 6 years. I bought the drive in Jan. 2008 for a Core2Duo build, and it is still my main optical drive now (Dec. 2013) in my i5 machine. If I could buy a second one now I would, but this particular model is no longer manufactured. So instead, I bought the 24X updated version of this same drive just a few days ago. Not to replace this one, but to add a second optical drive.

Cons: NONE WHATSOEVER except that I can't buy a second one today

1 out of 5 eggsMine was pure garbage

Pros: Solid feeling construction, heavy, tray was nice and solid.

Cons: Worked for a very short period ot time flawlessly then took a big dump and me and started messing up DVD-RWs...that was the first thing to go. The CD burner lasted but wouldn't burn CDRW's flawlessly. I could burn about 20 min on the CDRW then skipping noises would be heard on every player I played it on. I dealt with this for so long and I should have just replaced it years ago. I currently replaced it with a Samsung and although the Samsung seems a tad more flimsy...it burned the long ago "supposed" dead DVD-RW discs that I thought were flawed. Turns out it was the Asus.

2 out of 5 eggsASUS DVD

Pros: This drive has worked pretty well for some time now, dont notice any time issues with loading or burning CDs.

Cons: At some point in time the DVD burner stopped working, Ive only burned maybe 3-4 DVDs on this drive so Im unsure of what the issue may be. The condition of the drive still looks brand new, no dust or dirt on or in the drive itself and everything else besides burning DVDs still works great, but inserting any blank DVD will cause absolutely nothing to happen (it does not recognize the dvd+r as a burnable disc) even tried other types of blank DVDs and still nothing, I just chalk it up and am currently surfing for a new DVD drive.

5 out of 5 eggsits good.

Pros: nice fast drive reads even badly scratched drives, and idk what the top poster is talking about. i installed operating systems from this drive manny times.

Cons: my drive stoped working after 2 years of light use.
however i was able to fix it. the lazer lens was out of position and needed repositioning.

Other Thoughts: my drive was probably one of the rare defective ones.
pleanty of read/write options and cheap..
cant go wrong.

3 out of 5 eggsBad Choice for your only drive

Pros: Burns CDs well. DVDs appear to work. Haven't had a chance to test the Lightscribe as I haven't got my hands on any lightscribe DVDs yet.

Cons: DOES NOT BOOT FROM CDS OR DVDS! I have tried a number of disks both burned and from factories. It takes forever to get this thing to work properly. I end up having to restart like 10 times before everything I need is loaded. Issues installing Ubuntu 6.04, 710, 8.04, Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista Ultimate, Business, and the Beta of Windows 7.

Other Thoughts: Suggestion: have a second drive. This drive works well when it has an OS backing it up it just has issues booting (which when building a PC can be problematic). Maybe I got a bad drive but if a DVD drive stops reading a disk halfway through a load on a number of occasions, it cannot be considered a good drive.

5 out of 5 eggswoah

Pros: Love the quality of the lightscribe. Super easy to do, I think anybody could make very professional quality disks with this. Reasonable burn time too.

Cons: did not come with sata cable, had to unplug one of my other burners and use it till I can buy another cable.
