1 out of 5 eggsASUS Rebate Joke

Pros: It worked. Newegg processed the order great as usual.

Cons: My rebate was approve on Dec. 1, 2010. It's Feb. 27, 2011 and still no rebate. I have used ASUS products on many occations. This has really soured me on their reputation. If I don't get my rebate in a week or so I will NEVER purchase their products again. Being a system builder, there ticking off the wrong people.

Other Thoughts: Newegg could help and pressure ASUS to make good on their agreements. Merchandise credits would be go too. This reflects badly on them too with a vendor not doing what's right.

2 out of 5 eggsAsus Rebate Processing Gimmick

Pros: It works.

Cons: Not much.

Other Thoughts: While this product is fine. The ASUS rebate processing sucks. When filing my rebate I took the option of 3-5 business day processing option in return of giving up $3 of rebate. It has been more than a month since rebate center has received my documentation according to tracking site and I still have not received my rebate.

2 out of 5 eggsAsus Rebates a Disgusting Practice

Pros: It is cheap with the rebate and it works fine with Windows 7....

Cons: I cannot believe I let myself get sucked into purchasing a product with a disgusting rebate attached to the purchase. I called the rebate center, was put on hold for 30 minutes and the system hung up on me after having to listen to *crummy* 12 bar blues all that time.

Other Thoughts: It is better to by something a little more expensive and avoid the hassle of participating in this shabby practice.
As my reward to ASUS, I will NEVER buy one of their product again...and my recent purchases are two widescreen monitors, two i3 laptops...

1 out of 5 eggsAsus Rebate Rip-off

Pros: The shipping wa prompt and it can read a CD.

The Newegg part of the transaction was smooth and professional, as usual.

Cons: As others have mentioned, Asus is using a fraudulent Rebate handling company. I read about the rebate rip-off before the purchase so I was extremely careful and did it perfectly except: at the end of a sentence, in small print, regarding the UPC, it says "affix here". Well, I didn't glue or tape the UPC but it WAS in the envelope. They lied and rejected the rebate, saying the UPC was missing.

I've been fairly impressed with ASUS until I needed customer support. I purchased a lightly used Asus netbook for a friend. They want to $50 to "replace" a restore disk that should be included with the systems. This is very poor customer relations. HP provides them for 75% less. Gateway and Acer charge 60% less.
It's this sort of customer relations that drives people to other suppliers. I purchase about 20 PCs and numerous accessories every month. Within a 3 day period, there have been 3 poorly handle issues. It's looking like time to dump Asus.

Other Thoughts: The drive is not worth full price. It scratches VERY easily. The stand tips over and is essentially worthless. When on the stand, you have to hold the drive with 2 hands to open. The drive shows fingerprints everywhere and looks dirty. The drive is slow. The software is ancient, (version 6 when version 10 is current). The drive requires 2 USB ports.

It is just about worth the price AFTER the rebate. There are plenty others as good, or better, for a lower price.

As long as Asus uses this dishonest contractor (as others have said), don't expect to get a rebate.

I purchased this for a friend to go along with an Asus Netbook. I'm quickly becoming disgusted with both and wonder if I'm actually doing my friend any favors.

Asus and/or Newegg should correct this dishonest Rebate issue.

1 out of 5 eggsNever an Asus drive again

Pros: Slim, looks nice with eeepc, quiet, runs off usb.

Cons: Coasters Coasters Coasters. Tested on 3 computers and i get way more coasters then successful burns. Its very picky about media brands, many wont even show there is a disc

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 internal asus drives and they are just as horrendous as this external. 3 strikes and your out, will never ever buy a asus drive again.

3 out of 5 eggsGlitchy.

Pros: Slim and clean looks.

Cons: The drive I received was faulty. Had to reload some DVD's a few times before it would read properly. Same DVD's work on my Bluray and desktop DVD perfectly fine.

Included USB cable is pretty bad. On my X201T, the splitted Y cable isn't long enough to reach my 2 separate USB ports.

Other Thoughts: Returned for refund.

2 out of 5 eggsUSB connector Broke

Pros: Light weight, easy to install and use, burns and reads OK.

Cons: USB connector very flimsy. It is soldered onto a circuit board with two very tiny solder joints, instead of being securely mounted to the unit housing.

Other Thoughts: Mine USB connection plug broke off the board after plugging and unplugging several times. I now have an expensive coffee cup coaster.
