The ASUS DRW-24B1ST is capable of reading and writing data on DVD±R/±RW, DVD-RAM formats. It is a power saving drive and allows you to permanently delete the data on rewritable discs. This provides you with flexibility and efficiency in terms of multimedia data storage and sharing.

E-Green The innovative drive E-Green Engine technology features an E-Green Mode that automatically closes drive applications when not in use to help conserve energy - helping the environment by decreasing CO2 emissions and reducing the depletion of trees.
E-Hammer E-Hammer allows you to permanently delete the data on writable disc (CD-R and DVD-R) formats. Once the data is deleted, it cannot be recovered or restored, and the optical drive will not be able to read the disc. This ensures data security, eliminates the hassle of scratching your old discs, and conforms with ASUS’ commitment to environmental protection.
AVRS (Auto Vibration Reducing System) The AVRS technology is designed to minimize the vibration caused by the spindle motor and resonance between components as well as the drive and PC cases. AVRS is designed to reduce vibration and noise induced by unbalanced mass of rotating machinery. With AVRS, ASUS DRW-24B1ST provides high readability and playability.
OTS (Optimal Tuning Strategy) With OTS, the drive will perform a test before really burning which generate the optimal burning strategy automatically for the best burning quality.

It doesn't feel cheap and I like how it opens and closes with authority as opposed to appearing weak and flimsy. Cons: When this this is reading alot of data from a disk, when installing games for example, it is very loud. I said to myself "well I guess that is why this drive is so cheap in price while there are other drives out there with the same features but at a $20-$30 premium". You must be paying for quietness. During regular reading, such as playing a music cd or during less intensive parts of installing software, the drive is the same noise level as every other drive I have ever used. Not blu-ray but I don't really need it. Other Thoughts: I was so glad the first time I built a PC that didn't need a floppy drive. When will we get to the point where DVD drives are officially done? Plays DVD movies, and burns DVD data discs perfectly. Cons: None. Other Thoughts: Was looking for a dvd burner to replace an older drive where the door wouldn't open anymore, and it was just getting old.
