5 out of 5 eggsGreat backup DVD burner

Pros: You plug it in, and it works with Win 7 - no drivers needed.

I have had this for some time now, it originally was used for a new rack mount server I built that did not have space for optical drive, and that server was fully configured with this unit. Since then I use it whenever a friend calls and needs help with their computer. I have not burned many DVD with it since it mainly used for recovery purposes, but the 20 or so I did burn have had no issues.

I plan on using this in the near future for a super mini ITX build for a friend as his optical drive. He will mostly use it to watch netflix dvd's and make backups of his documents.

Cons: Supplied USB cables are a bit short - 18". You can use extender cables as long as they are wire only - no hub extension cables. Remember the only power this gets is from the USB port which is capped at 0.5A.

Other Thoughts: VERY IMPORTANT: You need to plug this into its own port for reading, and for writing you need to plug in both ports to have enough power to ensure the burn is ok. There is no external power adapter, so all of the juice must come from the USB port. That means no unpowered hubs (like many older keyboards have) or passive hub extender cables. Powered hubs are fine. As long as you plug it into two ports, your burns will be good. I have burned a number of win 7 ISO images - three different vendors of dvd's - no issues.

I don't even remember what software this came with (if any?) - never used it.

5 out of 5 eggsBest portable drive ever

Pros: Light weight no power cored required. Get addition to my tech bag for service calls.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you need a external burner then look no further.
