3 out of 5 eggsno bluray player software

Pros: Works for DVD, CDs.

Cons: ASUS BC-12B1 STATA device comes with a Bluray burner software Power2GO from Cyberlink. However, no bluray player PowerDVD. At ASUS tech support website no bluray driver/player can be found.

Other Thoughts: Without Bluray player, why do I need Bluray burner?

4 out of 5 eggsMy ASUS Blu-Ray Burner

Pros: Great playback Blu-ray player. All drivers loaded fine from the included driver disk.

Cons: Not a one yet... but I still have yet to turn out a coaster or actual dvd as it hasn't been a priority just yet. I guess I need to ensure that works before I wait til 2013 to try and send it back for non-working functions.

1 out of 5 eggsNo DRIVERS or No SOFTWARE

Pros: Looks nice in my HAF-X

Cons: My ASUS Blu-Ray Burner came with No SOFTWARE ???? So now what ??????

Other Thoughts: I think newegg kept or someone that works for Newegg kept my SOFTWARE or ASUS has it. So where do I go to download drivers or recieve SOFTWARE CD. So I can watch a movie. My $20 ASUS DVD-R that I received had a SOFEWARE CD and it works perfect

4 out of 5 eggsGood burner but description and pictures are very misleading

Pros: Good DVD/CD burner i have used my dated version of Nero 6 to test this. No Coasters yet using an assortment of Verbatim, Sony, and Memorex Media. I used the trial version of Power DVD to test the Blu-Ray Playback of this Drive which works.

Cons: The Pictures show an ASUS driver CD that has Power DVD 9 Instaburn 5 and a few other asus utilities and it also indicates software in the item description. 1 egg off for being misleading newegg.

Other Thoughts: To the idiot complaining because he cant watch bluray movies it's because windows media player does not have a blu-ray codec installed you have to use another program like Power DVD or Nero to view blu-Ray DVD's.
Over all this is a very good Blu-Ray burner for the money i just wish it would have included the software that it showed in the pictures and the details.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat and Quiet Burner!

Pros: Just got this burner early June for $100+5 free BD-R's+free shipping = can't beat that!!! A great deal for a 8MB cache burner, plus, it's quiet compared to other drives!

It's been working so far. So far, it's been reading, writing, and backing up my HDD to blu-ray discs. I received the model like the one in the pictures - with the blu-ray and ASUS logos printed. (I was expecting the sleek, black, pyramidal cover!). I guess I don't need the fancy cover as my case cover will cover it, LOL! Can anyone explain if these two are internally, one of the same? I compared my drive's label and the pyamidal's online label, they seem to be the same model number: BW-12B1LT.

There is an elaborate review online about this drive and that got me to get this over other models.

Also, when getting the drive, you should consider what are the compatible blu-ray media. This drive works with the 5 free Optical Quantum BD-R's even though on their site, it doesn't have ASUS listed in the compatibility l

Cons: I guess I'll find out in a few months or after many more burns! >_>

and... I guess I got the last one on newegg for a few weeks?

I'll try to add something bad about this drive in a few months, if there are any ;)

Other Thoughts: Like others have said, this is an OEM drive and you'd be lucky to receive anything besides a bubble-wrapped, naked burner (NO SOFTWARE and/or NO FIRMWARE). I wasn't expecting a software disc but I also didn't receive any firmware/driver disc. Surprisingly, after installing the drive by itself, my Vista 64-bit instantly recognized it and I guess it updated itself. There is also no driver download on the ASUS site while other drives have available drivers. I even called ASUS tech support and they said that this drive doesn't need any drivers to work. That didn't make much sense to me but I guess I'll call them back if this burner stops working due to some driver problems.

I was then able to play and burn a few BD-R's that came with the drive. So far so good! I haven't used PowerDVD 10 to test blu-ray movies, yet, and probably won't use it ever at all. People are having trouble with it and there are better players. If you want a great blu-ray player software, you have to spend some bu

I tride all kines of free media players not a one will play it windows media player does not suport it. the OS. is windows 7 ulitmate. the movie is 2012. 1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Plays and burn DvD's, very quiet. Good Build

Cons: Recieved item wrapped in bubble packaging with out no software, I have to request it so I can update the firmware or driver. Software I recieved is not related to this burner. No support at Asus website for this burner to update driver instead using microsoft driver dated 2006.

Other Thoughts: I just bought me a piece of hardware with out no support from the manufacturer and a cyberlink software.
To be fair, Newegg shipping dept. were very supportive by sending me the software. I expect what the manufacturer advertised not for the customer skills/ability to figure out how to make their product work.

2 out of 5 eggsNeed some help, ASUS.

Pros: It runs DVDs and CDs perfectly, and looks nice in my rig.

Cons: However, the entire purpose I got this drive was to watch Blu-rays on my computer. No matter what disc I put into the thing, ASUS' provided CyberLink PowerDVD 9 tells me "There in a disc with an unsupported format in drive E:"

Now, I don't mind troubleshooting new a point. However, there are no drivers or firmware updates available on the support website. When I called support today, they were already closed (closing at 3PM PST on a Saturday? Okay.), and the hotline gave me the option to stay on the line to leave a message. I stayed on, and the hotline then told me that it couldn't process my request, and hung up on me. Great.

Other Thoughts: I've not had issues with ASUS hardware or software before. In fact, I have come to swear by it. However, this is getting quite frustrating. I'll try to call support again tomorrow, and pending the effectiveness of their assistance, I will hopefully be able to change this review. This can still easily go to a 5-star review if their service is awesome and they get me up and running.

5 out of 5 eggsAnother great Asus Product

Pros: Burns all disc types including LTH.
looks good.
This might only be a rebadged LG but with Asus support new firmware will come out as needed unlike trying to even find LG drives on the LG website.

Cons: The Price of 50GB BD media, but that will change with time.

Other Thoughts: When using the supplied Power2Go software DO NOT enable Enable defect management which will effectively drop your burn speed. I had 2x discs that were burned at 1x because i enabled defect management.
