1 out of 5 eggsBlu-Ray Player Software NOT INCLUDED

Pros: It works once you buy additional software for $50.

Cons: The ad needs to state that there is NO SOFTWARE INCLUDED that will PLAY BLU-RAYS. I had to spend another $50 to buy software to make this drive play a Blu-Ray. This was not at all a good deal considering you have to spend more to make it work.

2 out of 5 eggsThis was what i ordered

Pros: Burns disks without a problem. I've always liked asus products and they've been in many of my builds over the years so I really wanted to like this too.

Cons: Unfortunately it wasn't what I got so be warned. I wanted the drive listed here but the drive i got only has 4MB cache. not the 8 advertised. The model number on the one I got was "BW-12B1ST A".

It's been too long now to do anything about it, but I feel I wasted my money when a cheap no name burner has so many fewer problems reading disks than this thing does.

It's very picky about what disks it will read. For instance, it won't even detect the driver disk for my asus motherboard. DVD's work at a about 60% success rate.

Other Thoughts: Apparently asus had two suppliers for this drive, lite-on and lg. The lite-on drives are supposedly much better, the lg ones not so much. Guess which one I ended up with?
I've had friends that were going to get this for there own systems and I've steered them away. Too much money for a drive with this many problems imo

5 out of 5 eggsASUS

Pros: Got it on sale, with a rebate even. Still the price is under $100 normally. A blue ray burner with 3D support, what else could you want?

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: This unit has great reviews which is why I purchased it.

4 out of 5 eggsAsus great name

Pros: Works as it should, I brought it because of the name.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: This is my first Bluray burner. I have not use it to burn a disk yet. If I have any problems I'll be sure to update this review

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Reads and writes fine.

Cons: Doesn't come with any playback capabilities. Would expect it out of a 75 dollar player. Mail in rebate IF you sign up for it.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks but not as advertised

Pros: Pros: works quickly, quietly, and does its job for the most part.

Cons: Cons: yea doesnt read blu-ray at all figured hey could get this and watch movies here and there, but went to try the first time and not supported. Also the additional programs it comes with are just buggy.

Other Thoughts: Look for something else if your wanting a cheap blu-ray drive this is just a pretty cd drive nothing else.

3 out of 5 eggsdisappointed

Pros: installed with no problem and recognized immediately . Watched hunger games blu ray, great movie ,smooth as silk.

Cons: I read the review where the a version is a 4mb cache and the listing says 8 MB. That was over a year ago. It was on sale so I took a chance but but lost. I got the 4 MB. I agree that the listing should have changed by now.

Other Thoughts: I really do not know if 4 MB vs 8 MB cache is really going to make a difference.

1 out of 5 eggsLow quality drive

Pros: It burns ok with some media.

Cons: I've had issues burning Verbatim media as well as Rosewill. The Rosewill media will not burn in the burner period. I had a set of Verbatim that it won't burn to while another set works without any issues. Windata 4X media seems to work ok.

Other Thoughts: Asus moved to using LG as I don't think LiteOn makes Blu-Ray burners anymore. The LiteOn worked without any issues on all media. This newer burner has been the worst and also has issues playing newer Blu-Ray movies.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS really let me down.

Pros: It's ASUS, which usually means great quality. Worked well for the first 20-30 uses.

Cons: Died after only using it to rip 20-30 blu ray discs, and only burned 1.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my main rig 2 1/2 years ago mainly to rip some of my blu rays to my network drive, and just to have it in case I ever wanted to burn a blu ray disc. In the first 6 months of ownership I used it to rip 20-30 blu-ray movies. About a year ago I used it to burn a blu ray disc with home videos. I tried using it last week and it's completely dead. BIOS doesn't even recognize it in either of my PC's. I know it's over 2 years old, but my $20 DVD drive has been used for twice as long and has read/burned hundreds if not thousands of discs. Very disappointed.
