2 out of 5 eggsShady rebate

Pros: The blu-ray it self works great and does everything you would want for an optical drive.

Cons: Biggest con is ASUS failed to honor their rebate offer. I've only had great experience with ASUS products in the past but to loose a loyal customer over not honoring a rebate doesn't say much for customer service. It clearly stated the purchase period and my receipts did as well and ASUS would still not honor my rebate. Once you cut the box up for get ever returning the item and best of luck on getting the to honor a warranty as well. Next the software that comes with the rom does not play well with any of the anti virus software. Sometimes I have to click on the anti virus 5-10 times before it finally stops trying to remove the software. It gets old pretty fast. Roms are almost an obsolete item now for pc's and I thought it would be nice to have a blu-ray player for the pc in the guest room. So, far this item is my only regret of my PC build.

Other Thoughts: It's a Blu-ray rom does what its advertised to do. However company that makes it doesn't honor its advertised rebates.

5 out of 5 eggsSecond Asus Burner

Pros: What is there to say, it works great, its a blu ray burner.

I like how the case ejects slower than the Asus CD burner I put in another build I previously did.

Cons: N/a

Other Thoughts: Since 2009, the desktop that the optical drive was for is my 8th build under my belt.

5 out of 5 eggsGets the job done

Pros: Works for its intended purpose, so that I can R/W DVDs and CDs and read Blu Rays. Got it mostly for installing windows.

Cons: I don't know if it was my cables, my lack of pushing, or what, but the first few hours after building my case, I could not get it to read a Windows 7 installation disc. After about 20 times of taking it out and putting it in, it finally worked, but I had to move the computer so I turned it off. I eventually decided to install with a flash drive (I thoroughly recommend this to everybody, so much faster). After getting everything up and running I did one final push of the cables and it finally started reading drives properly. So it wasn't a bad drive, but just be weary and make sure your cables are 100% secured, because the drive worked, had power, and even recognized that there was a disc, but wouldn't read without pushing the cables on further.

3 out of 5 eggsWOW!

Pros: Worked GREAT for a year.

Cons: Died TWO DAYS after the warranty expired. WELL PLAYED, ASUS...

Other Thoughts: Planned obsolescence at its FINEST. Now I have a nice DOOR STOP. Oh well, it's only MONEY, right?

1 out of 5 eggsThought It Would Be Good.

Pros: Works with right software.

Cons: Needs cable, not included.
Needs software for Bluray decoding.
Will not play copied media.
Asus refused to honor rebate or even respond to questions.

Other Thoughts: Would have been better off buying a more complete bundle, ended up costing me more buying drive, cable and software.
