1 out of 5 eggs4 dead in 3 years

Pros: When it works, it works well. My original one came with the bundled software.

Cons: I've gone through 4 of these drives in 3 years. The first two died just out of warranty. The 3rd one died just before the factory warranty expired and was replaced by the manufacturer. That drive lasted a whole 2 months with very light use.

Other Thoughts: I was smart enough with the last one to get the extended warranty, so bye bye Asus. FOREVER!

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Great price for a drive. I was close to buying a DVD burner that could play blu-rays, but bought this instead when I saw the price, plus the rebate. I haven't burned any CD's DVD's or blu-rays yet, but it does a good job with Blu-ray playback, which is why I bought it. I'm using a trial version of Cyberlink Power DVD 13.

Cons: No Blu-ray playback software.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: 2 years of use issue free use. Nice feature is the tray opens and closes quickly...snag a cord and it tries to open and close to resolve as well just as quickly. Plays everything I have put in it and burns reliably. quiet as well

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine. Does not come with BD playing software

Pros: I've only used it a few times since purchasing it, but I've had no problems. As far as I can tell, it works exactly as advertised.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm not docking any eggs because this is something I should have paid more attention to, but pleas note that, while it includes BD software (Cyberlink Power2Go), this is BD burning software, not BD playing software. If you want a legitimate licensed BD player, you'll still have to buy one.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great - after updating all video drivers

Pros: Plays BR movies fine on new HTPC build

Cons: None so far. Have not tried burning yet.

Other Thoughts: Not really a con, but built a new HTPC, installed drivers from recent DVD included, all was well until I tried to play a BR DVD using Nero 12 Platinum, latest version. DRM issues. At least Nero directed me to AMD website where I downloaded and installed a slightly newer version of graphics drivers and finally could play a Bluray disk. And why can't Windows include Bluray player ability? Why do we have to pay another $50? Not the fault of Asus I know.

5 out of 5 eggsI want another one

Pros: I have been able to backup stuff off of old hard drives laying around and from multiple computers. Not currently making any coasters.

Cons: When I first bought this thing, perhaps in 2012, I put it into an old computer and it seemed not to work well at all. I don't know what was wrong but now I have it in an old 2008 Asus Core 2 Duo machine and it's working great.

Other Thoughts: I have never tried to play bluray movies through it, and I can't imagine why I would ever do that. To me this is a backup device, and a file import device. I'm currently using it in an external enclosure so it can be used from multiple machines. Worked well on a MacBook (USB connected) to backup a dying OSX machine.

2 out of 5 eggsWas nice while it lasted

Pros: Good price, read and wrote Blu-Ray Discs pretty well.

Cons: After about a year it stopped recognising Blu-Ray Discs. Asus did repair the device but after a little over a month back from repair it takes roughly 7 hours to write a data disc.

Other Thoughts: This was a nice drive while it lasted. Playing discs, no matter the type, is no longer an issue. However, I archive client data onto discs and having a stable burner is pretty important.

I would not recommend this drive if you plan on burning data discs on a regular basis. The instability of the drive makes it a nightmare. I've tried several different disc manufacturers and the results have been the same. When the drive goes it will not recognise any disc.

3 out of 5 eggsNot What I Expected

Pros: Reads Blu-Rays no sweat

Cons: Not An Asus drive, the one I got was a rebranded Liteon iHBS112, which I will be updating to the Liteon Firmware since Asus doesn't seem to care to work on it.

Louder than my Asus DVD-RW Was

Other Thoughts: I know this isn't a big thing, but I have a green themed Acrylic case and the last 4 Asus Drives I got had a green led, and I understand because it's a blu-ray they changed it to a blue one, but that kinda throws off the green theme.

Other than that it's been great and hasn't had any trouble reading discs, but I am still upset they made two versions of this drive, one is an Asus one, but they changed it down the line (which you most likely get the later version) and it's just the rebranded Liteon iHBS112, but with Asus firmware. Though luckily I've also had good luck with Liteon so It's not all bad, just upset they don't mention it anywhere on their site or on here.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked as expected

Pros: Worked as expected with no effort. The way it should.

Cons: (Note: not the products fault, but painful that Linux cannot play blue rays. Seems absurd that I have to rip a DVD to watch it on our media center.)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat top of the line disc reader

Pros: Reads and writes Blu Ray, not too loud, fast as lightning, good price, comes with several 25 gb discs

Cons: None, except it adds quite a bit of noise In my opinion, but keep in mind the rest of my PC is almost completely silent. I will look for a way to either disable it in the device manager until I need it, or see about unplugging it temporarily. Still a great value and not near enough to remove an egg.

Other Thoughts: I still reccomend this product completely. If you're looking into getting it, do so. No regrets here.
