5 out of 5 eggsGets the job done

Pros: Works for its intended purpose, so that I can R/W DVDs and CDs and read Blu Rays. Got it mostly for installing windows.

Cons: I don't know if it was my cables, my lack of pushing, or what, but the first few hours after building my case, I could not get it to read a Windows 7 installation disc. After about 20 times of taking it out and putting it in, it finally worked, but I had to move the computer so I turned it off. I eventually decided to install with a flash drive (I thoroughly recommend this to everybody, so much faster). After getting everything up and running I did one final push of the cables and it finally started reading drives properly. So it wasn't a bad drive, but just be weary and make sure your cables are 100% secured, because the drive worked, had power, and even recognized that there was a disc, but wouldn't read without pushing the cables on further.

3 out of 5 eggsWOW!

Pros: Worked GREAT for a year.

Cons: Died TWO DAYS after the warranty expired. WELL PLAYED, ASUS...

Other Thoughts: Planned obsolescence at its FINEST. Now I have a nice DOOR STOP. Oh well, it's only MONEY, right?

1 out of 5 eggsThought It Would Be Good.

Pros: Works with right software.

Cons: Needs cable, not included.
Needs software for Bluray decoding.
Will not play copied media.
Asus refused to honor rebate or even respond to questions.

Other Thoughts: Would have been better off buying a more complete bundle, ended up costing me more buying drive, cable and software.

2 out of 5 eggsLost Faith in Asus

Pros: Plays BLU-RAY

Cons: I purchased the on Sept of 2013, I burned 4 Memorex DVD in Sept with Windows (no problem), and In October I tried burning again, but was surprised that the drive would spin up, but would pause in progress. I figure oh ok it might take a while so I let it run its course throughout the night. 9 hours later Window timed. I tried swapping to different companies of DVDs (Sony then Maxell) still no Joy. Then I tried swapping programs so I got latest Nero and Cyberlink PowerDirector, still no joy. I e-mailed Asus and got another drive, which I had to pay for shipping for the return. The new Drive arrived and yet the same problem. I gave them two chances and both times they let me down.

Other Thoughts: I have lost faith in Asus quality assurance. As a result, I purchased new LG to replace the defective drive and love it!

1 out of 5 eggsEXTREME disappointment

Pros: Newegg is exquisite in their customer service. I initially had a problem with a promotional code valid for my account and within 24 hours, they responded to me via email and helped solve my issue promptly.

Cons: This drive is one large con. If you assume that purchasing the drive entitles you to bluray playback, you are unfortunately incorrect. I believe it may be my own misunderstanding that wrought this situation unto me, but However, you must have have software that can play bluray. This means that you'll need to spend more money in order to even use the thing.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

3 out of 5 eggsHardware is okay, software is awful

Pros: Fast, writes to multiple media

Cons: No Blu-ray player software included, which I knew about ahead of time, Power2Go included software is okay for burning when all functions are working, but after 30 days, it shuts off some of the features (like burning an audio CD) and will nag you to upgrade the software to the full version. I felt like I got conned with this hardware/software package.

Other Thoughts: I would have been okay with it if the software had stayed the same after 30 days, but cutting off features just made me mad. Minus 2 eggs for the junk software bundle.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy

Pros: - Burns movies with ImgBurn and Nero.
- No dual layer issues with ImgBurn
- Quick
- Inexpensive
- Quiet
- ASUS rebate arrived on time

Cons: - None at this price

Other Thoughts: - I have has a few issues with dual layer DVDs burned with NERO 11 Burning ROM. However, the same movies burned with ImgBurn pay just fine. Which leads me to believe it is not a hardware issue but rather software issue.
- I have not tried to do anything extreme with this drive. I burn single layer BD disks and single and double layer DVDs. For such tasks this drive is excellent
